Got my copy reserved, of course. Planning to pick it up tomorrow (I have other stuff to do at GameStop including picking up Jirachi, so the midnight launch wouldn't really work too well).

Darn, I really want to get this game tonight but I don't think that I will be able to afford it until next week. Oh well, I'm pretty sure that there will still be plenty of copies available.

From what I saw on a review on FF13, the game looks really pretty, infact, makes me want to buy a PS3 soley to play it. However, they took out the shops and there's a HELL OF ALOT OF TEXT, apparently they don't tell the story well in the cutscene and you will need to read a bit.

QUEEN OF SASS

It's like, I just love a cowboy
You know
I'm just like, I just, I know, it's bad
But I'm just like
Can I just like, hang off the back of your horse
And can you go a little faster?!

dude

its MINE
@aviator: If you want to dig deeper into the story, theres a Log where you can read more detailed Information. Its completely Optional. You can understand most of the stuff without , but if you forgot what the difference between a fal'cie and a L'cie its pretty useful.

I picked up a copy too, great so far but I'm only up to Chapter 3. I also picked up Battalion Wars Wii for £12 due to the excellent things I've heard about it!

Sazh is the best character so far.

I'm about an hour in to it and I have to say I'm impressed.
Though Vanille is mentally challenged (That's the only nice way to put it)

No way! Vanille is adorable and cute! She's my favourite character so far (4 hours in)

I bought the game yesterday, and although I'd played a little of the battle system in Japanese, this is the first time I've had a chance to start the game and get a sense of the story.

It's great, but at the same time, the complaints that reviews are leveling at it are legitimate. It is very cut scene heavy, and it is very linear. However, I utterly love the game, because I don't mind that style of gameplay. Others won't I realise.

But so far, so good. My favourite opening 4 hours to a Final Fantasy game yet.

Waltz, that is a nice message that I mostly agree with (except, to an extent, about Vanille - I like her, but certainly not the most), but I'm not sure I needed to read it three times, haha.

Why do we have two FF13 threads anyway? I understand that the conversation will inevitably leak into the PS3 thread, but two threads exclusive to the same game?

Anywho, I've barely gotten into the game so far. Played it for maybe an hour so far. And though I can't really comment on it much, I will say that I am enjoying it quite a bit, and as impressed as I am with the visuals (and to a lesser extent the acting), what I can't get over is how amazing the battle theme is! Easily one of the best game themes I've heard. Battles haven't gotten remotely interesting yet, but this song makes me want to fight every enemy I see.

Come on, friends,
To the bear arcades again.

Sorry, I didn't really have much else to say on initial impressions <_<

I agree, the battle theme music is truly amazing. It's the track I listen to the most on the soundtrack, too, which is a heck of an achievement for a piece of music that you listen to so much in a game.

The thing I'm most impressed with is how well the plot is handled. It's somehow both cliched and intelligent at the same time - it's like the writers KNEW that the old cliches were in there, but rather than try and be "original", they decided to ham them up and have fun with them instead. As a result, the characters are genuinely great. I love Vanille the most (which continues a trend for me - Rikku, Penello were also my favourites), but the entire FFXIII cast are so, so charismatic.

That's what I was hoping they would do. I really don't like it when an FF's story is too serious, especially when it's obviously cliche(FFXII <_<). Besides, when the developers have fun, you have fun. At least now I know the story won't be horribly irritating, so maybe it does have some potential to be great after all.

Yeah. Everything is done TO THE MAX. Vanille is cute and bubbly TO THE MAX, Snow is the hero tough-guy TO THE MAX ("Sarah, your hero is coming for you!") Lighting is 'Squall/ Cloud style tough' TO THE MAX.

But, the script is really well done, good fun, and not once have I rolled my eyes or cringed. The voice acting is top-notch, too.

My one-line analysis of the game - FFXIII could have been so, so bad. But somehow it works, and I cannot work out how it managed to do that.

Ricardo91

As soon as I heard it was using the same combat system as FFXII, and saw that it had voice acting that didn't make me want to jab sharp objects in my ears, I couldn't wait to get my hands on it! I'll definitely be making a Gamestop run as soon as I get home tomorrow. I don't even care that I have to settle for the 20-disk 360 version!

I wish I could've finished FFXII before it's release, though.

CanisWolfred

Um...the combat's not really anything like the combat if FF12. Like, at all. It does only put you in control of one character, but that's pretty much the only major similarity as far as I know. This video explains it best:

Yes, the combat isn't even close to XII's. It's an entirely new direction for the series (there's no magic points!), but it's a welcome one. Although the fights in the early stages of the game are very, very easy, they're also dynamic and entertaining. It only gets better as the difficulty increases (the Japanese version that I played briefly a month ago was from a save point mid way through the game, and it's very exciting as the difficulty increases)

JayArr

Combat is amazingly fluid.

visuals are off the charts as well. Hoooooo, Final Fantasy in HD is a beautiful and sexy beast.
