Topic: YouTube Clickbait Channels and Fake News

Not necessarily. It’s only the easy way out, with clickbaiters exploiting their audience entirely. Channels like Scott The Woz and Arlo never clickbait at all, and yet they’re massive. To get subscribers and to be successful, the best way is to make quality content. That’s all. This way, you don’t actively mis-lead your entire fanbase on purpose, just to make money.

@VoidofLight I agree with this, the gaming content I watch tends to be good, entertaining, and even interesting, even if I don't always agree with the opinions of the video creator on some games (looking at you Scott the Woz, I love Sonic CD). The best gaming content I like usually touches on smaller subjects, or interesting retrospectives.

When people start to clickbait, I just end up getting tired of it and I just stop watching. I don't mind news discussion videos though, sometimes it's interesting to get someone's take, even if I don't always agree.

Please, don't treat rumors as if it's confirmed fact. I think this is why people get upset to begin with, since nothing's confirmed officially, yet they'll believe it (again, my Switch Pro example).

@MsJubilee I really like SwitchUP as well. Their scoring system makes the most sense so you understand why they arrive at their score by the end of the video. Plus they started the All PatchedUp series .

and if you start your video with an advertisement you deserve a skip right away.

in general, its just total cancer all cross the board.

For the most part I pretty much only watch spawn wave, rgt, zeltik, and commonwealth realm. Although they've moved a little further away from gaming, cinnemassacre is still my favorite of them all. Most of them out there are unwatchable imo.

Of course they have a video on the latest Monster Hunter news, title is fine...saying a new returning monster is back. What monster is it? Eh, who cares, let's just put another monster on the thumbnail instead.

Made me think I missed some more news about Yama returning in Sunbreak, then I saw the channel name. sighs

Used to watch RGT 85 pretty regularly, but he recently (within the past few months) started saying "Let's Go Brandon" in videos and that completely turned me off. Even if he doesn't personally hold the more vitriolic opinions of the GQP, the very fact that he thinks "LGB" is clever or witty or entertaining or anything other than sad and delusional is problematic. I'm sure there are some people who think I'm overreacting, but at the end of the day, RGT decided his personal politics were more important than maintaining integrity, and that sucks. I love Spawn Wave but don't watch the Cast when RGT is there - I don't surround myself with reductive politics in real life so I'm not about to do so online.

I loosely watched RGT85 back in the day, and he always was sort of clickbaity but I didn't mind. Until he made a video entitled "Nintendo CONFIRMS Switch Pro?!?" and the video was literally just about a vague statement that the president of Nintendo made about expanding their hardware in the future. The video got a ton of backlash and I unsubbed after that.

@jaymattson I've watched most, if not all his videos and I don't recall any of the LGB stuff being mentioned. Which ones in particular are you referring to?

I watch RGT85's videos once in a while but obviously not often enough to have noticed this. I couldn't care less about anyone's political leanings, but I don't want to hear about them when I'm seeking news on video games, watching sports or doing most anything else. So yeah, maybe I don't need to watch that channel anymore. He's a funny guy, but please spare me the political commentary.

@NintendoByNature - the last video I watched (according to YT history) was about the Good and Bad of the NSO Expansion Pack about a month ago. I just did a quick skim of the video and comments, and though I can't seem to find it, he explicitly said "LGB" in the video because there were multiple instances of commenters expressing their resolve, as well. I don't know if they've been deleted or if I looked at the wrong video, but either way, it was enough to get me to unsub. I felt it was leading towards a precedent I wasn't keen on supporting.

EDIT: My original comment should have read 'a video' instead of multiple - I have no idea if he's continued the trend or not.

I watched RGB like 2 times, and couldn't stand the guy so I stopped. That's unfortunately what happens for me with a lot of the Nintendo Youtubers. I usually just can't stand them, unless it's like Arlo or Tyranitar Tube, all because most of them clickbait and lie to their fans, or they just feel whiny overall.

I used to like them but Beat em ups sucks now, Its nothing but Crap videos, and sometimes just makes video's of whatever drama at the time.

@Snatcher yeah I checked out of Beat em Ups awhile ago. I found the vids interesting for awhile but got bored with them. And Wood's thumbnail pics are the worst.

I watched a lot of Youtube stuff around the same time I got my Switch. The Completionist, Arlo, RGT, RabbidLuigi, Nitrorad, Beat em Ups, Spawnwave, etc.. But I just got bored with all of them. Cinemassacre, Stop Skeletons From Fighting, and Gaming Historian are about all the gaming content I watch now. Stuff that isn't as focused on new releases but weird stuff I didn't already know about.

The only stuff I really watch now are the occasional Arlo video and Scott the Woz. Scott is great, and isn't as obnoxious as many of the others, but he doesn't really cover Nintendo news either. I only watch Arlo when it pertains to a game I'm interested in, but I used to watch more of his videos a while back.

Switch Force is probably the worst channel I've seen for Nintendo content, with there only being one other that I actively hated all due to the dude's childish personality and ignorance/stupidity. I forgot the second dude's channel, so I won't be referring to it by name. Switch Force however, blatantly lies to their audience with thumbnail and video titles, and he's just annoying in terms of his personality at that.

I love avgn. I watch everything he puts out. Including some of the other content from the channel and it's all good. Episode 200 pt 1 just came out today too 😉.

I don't mind switch ups reviews. They're usually pretty In depth. Rgt is like junk food, but I like his stuff. Spawn wave is nice for news that I already know about. Zeltik is nice for zelda news, as it's commonwealth realm.
