Patentely waiting for more info regarding the Virtual Console line-up. Since I missed the GameCube era (lost interest in games during that time) I'm really hyped about the potential arrival of those games on Switch VC.

I'm not sure. Well these are the possible ways of voice chat from other systems:

  • Controller or console has a microphone built in (e.g. Wii U Gamepad)
  • Controller or console has some kind of headset port (e.g. PS4 and XB1 controllers, old XB1 controllers did require a special adapter to use 3rd party headsets though)
  • Console can connect to wireless headsets (e.g. XB1)

These are the things to look out for if there's any hope of voice chat not requiring the smartphone app. Feel free to add to the list if you can think of others.

@Grumblevolcano
From the patents which are not necessarily final there is no mic on the main unit. There's a chip in there for handling audio but it's only connected to a speaker and a headphone jack. But this is what they say about the 3.5mm headphone jack.

That is, the main unit 2 allows a microphone or an earphone to be attached to the sound input/output terminal 25. As shown in FIG. 3, the sound input/output terminal 25 is provided on the upper side surface of the housing 11.

I'm pretty sure I saw during the presentation or treehouse that the Switch included a microphone on its top right corner. I may be wrong, though, I don't have the time to see the video again to confirm it.

I do think the voice chat will be though the console, though. They can't be that backward... I guess.

I don't know what source I have read this, but good news! For those who are eager to try out Super Mario Odyssey, it's confirmed that it's going to be playable at this year's E3.

Making promise is easy. The hard part is keeping it.

@Azooooz Nice, but no surprise really. It's coming out this year, so it's a given that it will be their big E3 game.

So I decided to put off Switch, at least till Splatoon 2 comes out. I shall explain my reasoning through a list:
-No charging joycon grip included
-No 1 2 Switch as pack in
-Overall weak launch window lineup atm(Seriously, 2 years of planning and this is the best they get?)
-OS seems barebones, online network sounds unfinished.

I was thinking the same thing unless there's a grip and a charging grip which are two different things?

@Octane the one included doesnt have charging apparently. the charging version is being sold seperately for $30.

Where did you hear that?

For all those worrying about memory, other news outlers like Destructoid and Games Reactor are reporting that the Switch is compatible with external HDD - connected to the dock, obviously. However, the feature won't be available at launch, to not mess up the messaging of it being a console you can use as a portable. Supposedly, Nintendo fears backlash over gamers not being able to take on the go games they have on the drive connected to the Switch and having to do micromanagement.

So, we may see this feature down the road as an alternative to microSD cards.

As discussed earlier, they're launching in March. I'd wait for the holidays for bundles if you're not interested now

@TheLZdragon Yeah tbh unless you really need zelda and mario kart and don't have a wii u best to wait until then.

Ah, I see. But it seems like a charge will last 20 hours, so as long as you charge it between plays it shouldn't be a problem.

Everyone should always apply this logic on everything they buy, wait until you feel it is worth it.

The thing I find curious is they are only selling one type of grip tho, so does that mean they are either downgrading the one with the console or pricing up the one sold separately?

I particularly don't care for "it has to sell millions at launch or die" mindset. The PS3 and 3DS already broke this idea in half.

Let the crazy Nintendo fans (and scalpers) buy up the Switch at launch. Let them pay more for what you'll get this holiday season or next year for less

I gotta be honest, I never really liked the idea of Nintendo launching a new console so soon. I still see consoles as something that should be supported at least for 6 years regardless of overall sales, and the WiiU will be just 4 years and 4 months old when the Switch is going to be released. The new console that supposedly "won't be replacing neither the WiiU nor the 3DS" is going to do just that: totally replace the WiiU.

It seems that Nintendo first and foremost, of all companies, wants people to forget that WiiU ever existed. And to add insult to injury, it feels like all the Switch heavy hitters this year are either games meant for WiiU (Breath of the Wild), or simply games that could have been on WiiU but will be on Switch because Nintendo is desperate to make money off the new hardware (Splatoon 2, Super Mario Odyssey). Of course Nintendo didn't care that Splatoon was one of the best selling games of 2015 all thanks to the small but very active WiiU community (the game sold 4.6 million copies, which means 50% of the WiiU user base has a copy - incredible). They also seem to underestimate how active the WiiU user base was when it comes to buying good games: Super Mario Maker sold nearly 4 million copies, Super Smash Bros sold 5 millions, and even Pokken Tournament on one dying platform sold nearly as much as Street Fighter V across multiple platforms...so, did they really need to kill off such a good community so soon?! That wouldn't be a problem if the WiiU was 6, or even 5 years old, but pulling the plug 4 years and 4 months into its lifespan is not a wise move, and I personally think it creates more scepticism than trust.

I understand they have been working on Breath of the Wild for half a decade now and they need it to sell hundreds of millions of copies, but is it going to happen, really?! One thing the Switch confirms is how little interest Nintendo has towards its core fanbase, and the dangerous thing is that nothing stops them from announcing yet another system in 2018 in case the Switch underperforms...and given the high price, the lack of pack-in game options, the emphasis on motion controls, the lack of backwards compatibility, the paid online services, the poor battery life, the overall unactractiveness of the launch lineup and the sparse release schedule for the months to come, I really don't see why this console should be flying off the shelves...

I don't believe Nintendo is going to put all their eggs in one basket and I'm convinced they'll announce a new portable to live side-by-side with the Switch if the Switch doesn't sell as expected within the first year and a half...

Top-10 games I played in 2017: The Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild (WiiU) - Rogue Legacy (PS3) - Fallout 3 (PS3) - Red Dead Redemption (PS3) - Guns of Boom (MP) - Sky Force Reloaded (MP) - ...
