I think it's just 3rd parties starting to move away from supporting Switch natively. With Furukawa's comment in May 2020 about the point in the Switch's lifespan suggesting something's happening around late 2022/early 2023 and rumours intensifying about some kind of 4k Nintendo system, I think it's likely 3rd parties are focusing on that instead.
The end of Smash Ultimate would fit the timeframe too for a new system happening:
Smash 3DS/Wii U ended February 2016, Switch launched March 2017
Smash Ultimate ends October 2021, Switch successor launches in November 2022 perhaps?
I hope the successor to the Nintendo Switch will be compatible with Nintendo Switch games
I’m not bothered by the cloud games for KH. It has already been stated that Squeenix looked into porting and it was difficult. I’d rather something that works than something that drops to a crawl and turns my switch into a hot potato. I’m sure by the time the successor comes out (cuz KH gets trotted out every gen) that port will be native. However if I were a Nintendo only gamer I would rather have access than none at all. I’ll likely get these once I start traveling for work more. My ps4 versions are in a box somewhere.

Ya, I've always thought the KH games were mediocre, and sold on brand more than actually being good games. I thought a few were ok, decent fun, but always lost interest an hour in.
I would have given them one last shot on Switch, but this just means I'm over it.
So I'm not upset over games I think are "really good" or games I "really want to play", I'm just upset at the blatant disrespect toward Nintendo gamers from Square Enix
They make sure to port every single KH game that's ever released on a Nintendo system to PS. But when it's the other way around, it's the middle finger. Take a Cloud version. Even with Sora in Smash, still, middle finger. Take a cloud version.
The disparity between how they treat Nintendo fans and other fans is insulting.

Eh, oh well. I never liked KH1. I wanted to give the series more of a chance, but if they're going to act like this, I'll happily leave the franchise as one of the holes in my gaming resume.

These exactly. I played the KH games on Xbox Game Pass and they are just too clunky control-wise, or at least the first game.
Still happy about Sora being in Smash, but disappointed by Square Enix's disrespect to Nintendo fans.
I bought 1.5 + 2.5, 2.8, 3 and 3's DLC in a big Xbox sale towards the end of last year but held off playing because it takes so long to download. Now that Switch versions are confirmed and cloud, I decided just to download the Xbox stuff. Will get Melody of Memory on the Switch in a sale to get the extra song for Smash Ultimate though.
My issue is that these will likely be used as an excuse to not port over the games once Nintendo releases a more powerful console. Now I think developers are opting to put these cloud versions on the system instead of outsourcing the work to a company who could port them properly. In some cases that might mean we get get games that wouldn't have come over at all (like Control and Hitman), but in order cases it'll replace proper ports.
I'm just glad Dragon Quest XI S came to the system before Square-Enix realized it could skate by on zero effort streaming versions instead. That game was ported so beautifully. If it were today, they'd probably have just slapped DQXI Cloud Version on the Switch and called it a day.
Oh well. More time and money for developers who ARE going to the trouble to properly port their games to the Switch. I don't even have enough time to play the games I want that are releasing for the system as is.

1. They don't need that excuse, they've had countless others in the past
2. I can't imagine these are successful enough to replace actual ports. They're a "well if we're not gonna do a real port anyway" solution to make a little bit extra money.

Exactly right. The Wii U era this is not. We have no shortage of amazing games constantly releasing month after month- too many for most to keep up with. I'm spending serious money on Switch games and so are many others. If they want a slice of that action, here we are. If not, then just move along. We'll happily help the companies who do value our money inflate their quarterly earnings instead.
Thank you Capcom for Monster Hunter Rise. Enjoy that 7.5 million sold (and still counting). When RE Switch arrives, we'll respond in kind. Thank you Atlus for SMTV. We'll be sure to make it a million seller. Companies that give us equal games with equal effort, they see results equal to what they see on other platforms. Give us unequal games with unequal effort, don't be surprised to see results unequal to what you see on other platforms.
Square Enix has become a lazy company (and I rarely use the term lazy) thanks to years of bribery and backroom payoffs. They've grown complacent, from all the money Sony throws at them to make FF games exclusive, all the money Epic throws at them to keep games off Steam... they just expect payouts. And if you're not paying out, expect the bare minimum.

I mean if 3rd parties stop doing proper ports and it affects Nintendo enough to actually make a Switch with more modern hardware under the hood I think it’ll be a good thing long term. Things like the Switch OLED exist because Nintendo is told by it’s core cult of fans they don’t need to do anything more. Their core audience carry them on the back of first party releases, despite so much of what Nintendo do being anti-consumer or just outdated practices . I think the pressure has to come from outside.

I mean, ignoring how much this doesn't matter in reality in the first place (Skyrim and GTA 5 being notable upcoming PS5 releases should've ended this discussion tbh), I imagine by the time there would be a notable decrease in support from major publishers, Nintendo will already be on track to put out a successor anyway. "Oh no, now we need to...do the thing we're already doing!"
@Pizzamorg
PS2, PSP, DS, 3DS and PS3 games are perfectly capable of running on Switch. This has nothing to do with lack of power, regardless of what PR nonsense SE cites as justification. It’s lack of will. A more powerful system won’t change that.
And frankly, most third parties aren’t stopping doing proper ports. If it came to that one day, then I think Nintendo would respond (though by that time it would be next generation anyways, so…). But it hasn’t come to that yet. Just because a small minority of super fans say they have to put out a next gen system in the middle of the generation because they’re too impatient to wait a few short years for the generation to wrap up, doesn’t really speak to a need for it. Things like switch OLED exist because they iterate their hardware every few years. Always have and always will (and thank goodness for it! Its a better revision of the system many will enjoy). Their “cult of fans” is 100 million people who enjoy their products. And those people aren’t going to boycott video games just because you want more powerful hardware and are too impatient to wait three more years for the next generation to start.
Whether Nintendo does outdated or anti-consumer practices or not, they make a product that is incredibly appealing to tens of millions of people. I don’t think it’s right calling 100 million people “wrong” just because they’re satisfied with something you’re not. Not even “satisfied”. Because I’m sure many people would appreciate something more. But what do you want them to do- sell their switches and quit their hobby for the next three years in protest? Not buy a better revision system they genuinely want to enjoy? How radicalized do you think most people are about video games to the point they put activism over fun?
For the overwhelming majority of people, things are perfectly fine and they don’t need to do deviate from the standard generational blueprint they’ve been following for 40 years now. Would be cool if they did, but it’s not needed, no matter how many times a small vocal minority repeats that they do on the Internet. It’s not like this is the hardware that’s going to be around for the next century- new generations come every 6-8 years. And people are perfectly OK waiting the tiny amount of time there is left for the next generation.
The fact switch has remained the best selling system in the world for the last five years straight and still going speaks to the fact they are doing far more right than they are wrong. Contrary to internet myth, the sky will not fall if we have to wait for the next generation before we get a more powerful system. It’s not needed now, and never has been. Would be nice, but there are far too many quality games releasing on the system for anyone to make the argument that it’s “needed”. The hostility toward fans who just enjoy video games and enjoy their products baffles me. It’s one thing to voice your opinion about a company or system, but it’s an entirely different thing when you start calling 100 million people part of a cult just because they’re satisfied with something you’re not, or aren’t willing to “not buy the system in protest of demanding more power”. It ain’t that serious for most people. It’s really not. And attacking 100 million people for daring to enjoy what they have and like just reeks of self-righteous disdain for every single person here. You have no right to judge others for what they enjoy or don’t enjoy in this hobby.
If 100 million people like something and enjoy it as it is, and a small super vocal minority on the Internet insists they are wrong for liking what they like and are to blame for this and that (as if the switch in its current form is somehow “wrong” and requires “blame” anyways), from where I’m sitting, it’s not 100 million people behaving like a cult… you can always tell when someone is starting to become radicalized when they start attacking other gamers who don’t fall in line with their agenda or viewpoint. It’s no longer about sharing an opinion about a company or a game or system. When a person starts feeling hostility and resentment towards other gamers who are just enjoying the things they like, maybe that person is starting to take video games a little too seriously and it’s time to take a step back.

Time to get back on the hype train. This is a week for celebration. Metroid Dread is officially 48 hrs from release. Monster Hunter Rise Tetris theme as well. I'm about to go hard.
@Eel
Negative. But I washed my tennis shoes and they came out OK.
You could buy some carpet cleaner and scrub with a damp rag. I'd try that first. If you must wash it in the machine, maybe wrap it in something like a pillow case to cushion it being thrown around. And put a band around it to keep it shut. Wouldn't want it tearing or something.

Nintendo's managed to keep a consistent stream of stuff happening recently from game releases to Directs to new info on games outside Directs. Next up after Metroid Dread is the Animal Crossing Direct on October 15th.
Seeing all the good reviews is making me wanna try Dread. I’m going to buy it next month but I am starting to look forward to the purchase. Waiting on my amiibo to ship!!!!
Looking forward to the AC direct too. For one I'm off for bday shenanigans so I expect to be able to kick back and deweed my island.

@MsJubilee They get mad at 9s too. Apparently everybody is a shill/sheep/bootlicker/(is that all of the normal insults?). And considering the sliding scale thing where people act like 7-10 are the only numbers on the scale...the "true believers" are down to 7-8 (9 if is their favorite series...I guess)

While I may not always agree with NintendoLife's reviews, I feel it's misguided to say that any review of a Nintendo game on the site should dock 2 points to be accurate; by that metric, no Nintendo game should be better than an 8.
I'm really not a fan of numbered scores in general.
