Think you might be overanalyzing a bit.
It deserves hype because it looks fantastic, simple as that. Doesnt mean you have to buy it, doesn't mean you have to ignore review scores, but it looks great, and it's ok to be excited for games that look great, especially when it has to do with such a fantastic franchise.

Where have all these supposed gamers been hiding so as to make out like they've never heard of Monster Hunter Stories. Anyone with a half-decent interest in the 3DS should know that MHS is a highly regarded game worthy of anyone's 3DS library. And it's not like you can't still buy it and check it out. I'm beginning to wonder if some people around here need to re-sit their NL membership test 😛
You guys had me at blood and semen.
What better way to celebrate than firing something out of the pipe?
I have never heard of the game before but to be fair i only ever really got interested in the Franchise after MHW... which it looks completely different so i am not really interested in that release right now.
Has Monster Hunter Stories really been that popular?

Stories’ biggest problem was releasing on 3DS. It was a decent system for new JRPGs, but Switch is clearly a much better platform, especially with MH World giving the series western fame, and now MH Rise will further that notoriety.
MH Stories 2 releasing a few months after Rise is a major power play. So many people are gonna be in the MH hype bubble when Stories 2 releases. And the game has seriously awesome production values, with great voice acting, they’re bringing monsters from World (did you see the Legiana Red was riding in the trailer?) and as pointed out to me by someone else, scout flies were also shown.
This is a top tier, high budget RPG and it shows.

Monster Hunter Stories was a 3DS game in 2017, that basically said it all about sales performance. I'm pretty sure every 3DS game that released 2017 or later would've done better if it was on Switch on the same day it came to 3DS instead (or launch day if it released in 2017 before March 3rd).
@jump Did you play it and have an opinion on it? Seems to be a nice little game, not too deep and to play casually. Nothing so interesting that i would consider it a big game though, definitely a smaller title, but maybe its just not for me

@JaxonH That entire first part of your comment applies almost word for word as to why Persona Q2 also did pretty badly when it was released on 3DS as well
Granted the Switch wouldn't have been nearly as good of a fit given the dual screen gameplay but still

I'm guessing AlphaDream wouldn't have gone down if they'd transitioned over to Switch development. Imagine how well a Mario and Luigi port would have done in the early days of the system.

Ya, 3DS was an immediate wasteland in 2017. From the moment they revealed the Switch, 3DS's time was up. People had been playing on it since 2011, and it was already meager hardware at that time. Most 3DS gamers were dying to upgrade to the Switch. And while many of us have finally come back around to 3DS now, the excitement for Switch blinded everyone to it. Releasing games on 3DS in a post-Switch-reveal world was a death sentence.

@Ralizah nah, they had massive debts the years before they went bust. Whilst people like to use M&L flopping and them going bankrupt to highlight how irrelevant the 3DS had become at that point, there were other problems at hand that had caught up with them which is why they went belly up.
@Ralizah Nintendo stuborn in not allowing Alpha Dream to make a Mario e Luigi game on Switch, sadly resulted in Alpha Dream shutting down, now our chances of playing futures Mario e Luigi game on Switch and future Nintendo consoles, is now dead.
@JaxonH yes when Nintendo released Switch in march 2017 and Switch Lite in septembre 2019, i pratically killed 3DS, everyone was eeying Switch, why divide our resources in development of 3DS games and Switch games?3DS was pratically dead when Nintendo launched Switch in march 3th of 2017, and the final nail on 3DS coffin was the launch of Switch Lite, no one wanted to develop games anymore on 3DS, even Nintendo cancelled all the games they have planed for 3DS, after the launch of Switch and the comercial flop of the Mario e Luigi Bowser Inside Story on 3DS.
@Giancarlothomaz did Nintendo not allow them? Alpha Dream may have just wanted to quickly knock out a new game to help their money issues so a release on a console they already know and worked on would have made more sense than having to build something new from the ground up.
Keep in mind the Switch after the failure of the Wii U wasn’t not a sure thing and the 3DS was very popular at the time of development.
@Giancarlothomaz
I don’t think Nintendo made them. I believe I read they wanted to develop for 3DS, probably because they already had an engine and it was an easy port, and they thought 3DS was easy money and Switch was a risk. Not that Nintendo didn’t make the same misjudgment about 3DS, but Mario & Luigi was on Alpha Dream.
@jump
There were definitely other problems, nonetheless, 3DS dying was the straw that broke the camel’s back, and had they released on Switch, there’s a very good chance the game would have sold 2 million copies and they’d still be in business, at least for the foreseeable future.

Not sure if I've mentioned this in this particular thread, but a meaty demo for Monster Hunter Stories is available on the 3DS eShop for anyone interested in the game. It's pretty generous at it covers the first few hours of the story and grants wide access to the first area. The save file can be transferred to the actual game if one decides to pick it up. IIRC it's also available to play on both iOS and Android.

@Giancarlothomaz But Bowser's Inside Story doesn't work on a single screen setup. The game stretches its presentation intentionally across what's going on during gameplay and roaming outside in the overworlds as Bowser so it wouldn't translate well. It's the same reason why games like Persona Q2 didn't just immediately get transferred over to being developed for Switch from the get go considering how late they released during the life cycle
@TheFrenchiestFry that true, it would be to difficult to make a remake of Mario e Luigi Bowser Inside Story on Switch, but sadly since the remake of Mario e Luigi Bowser Inside Story on 3DS, was a comercial flop, our dream of playing a brand new HD Mario e Luigi on Switch is now dead.
