FIFA 21 is a flipping legacy edition again! EA treats Switch players like utter trash. Them bringing Apex this autumn is cool along with 5 other games, but this is one of them! I looked on the FIFA 21 website and it says it’s a legacy edition that features updated kits and rosters but no new game modes or innovations. Completely scandalous! The fact that they believe new kit designs and menus warrants a full retail release boggles my mind to no end. This could be how EA releases FIFA games permanently on Switch now and it’s absolutely abhorrent.
@Magician Well Catherine Full Body doesn't actually involve Hashino at all unlike the original game.
I honestly don't see Switch releases being as likely as Steam releases at this point. There are tons of examples of PlayStation console exclusives that went to PC first before other platforms, like Yakuza 0/Kiwami 1+2, Nioh, Heavy Rain, Beyond: Two Souls and Detroit Become Human
If Switch versions of these games don't happen PC versions definitely will. Especially after P4G dethroned FFXV as the most concurrently played non-MMO JRPG in Steam history

@Heavyarms55 it was one of the very first "NX" games. Along with DQXI which took a year later. Though Ralizah has a point, Atlus seems to announce games before they even work on them. And they probably borrowed a lot of staff to milk P5. But I've been itching for that game for she's m ages. 3 years in, and not a word...... Even in Japan. P5 scramble took some resources first i guess. Koei is making the game but atlus had to do the story stuff.
The thing is, I'm not really into sports games. And frankly, while I did actually enjoy FIFA 18, I only need one to last all generation. They're all the same to me anyways, legacy or not.
And by devoting resources needed to remake a sports game every year that's 95% identical anyways, that's an entire team that could have been porting say, Burnout Paradise. Or Apex Legends. So I say Legacy all the way. Theres really no need to keep remaking FIFA on Switch every year. It's already a really amazing handheld soccer game (let's be honest, it may not hold parity with power consoles but its eons beyond anything on 3DS or Vita), so just swap the roster since most people buying that game are more casual sports gamers anyways that may buy one here and there, and unless you're buying every year, it's totally worth it as someone's first and only FIFA on Switch.
Put that dev team to work porting a game more of the traditional gamer will appreciate. I think they've made the right call here. U
@Magician
There's almost certainly brand loyalty toward Sony going on. Keep in mind, the Japanese are way more divisive between Sony and Nintendo than we are in the west. They take their console warring very seriously. And alot of these devs got on the PS bandwagon and never looked back. Nagoshi (Yakuza, Sakura Wars) is diehard Sony. Harada (Tekken), the president of Falcom (although to his credit, he has finally caved in- all people are different and the allure of money can override everyone's loyalty at some point if the game isnt seeing massive success already- these other devs feel they don't need to abandon their loyalties as they sell more than well enough as is), Hashino (Persona) although he just left the Persona team. Coincidence that we see the series depart PS for the first time immediately after? I think not. I would argue most of Capcom- the only time MH games were ever made for Nintendo were for the supposed 3 game deal after corporate was unhappy with Sony's marketing for the franchise, after that, IMMEDIATELY went back and made sure Nintendo wasn't part of it...
That's just a reality we have to contend with. Game devs are humans and deal with all the imperfections everyone else does. Not that I think it's wrong to have brand loyalty. I know I do, and most of us here lean more one way than another. But I do know if I were a dev I wouldn't go full fanboy with consistent voluntary exclusives or targeting platforms to be excluded.

EA's really trying to change their image huh? 7 Switch games in 12 months, ditching Origin for Steam, Cross Play all over, Star Wars: Squadrons once more being a full-fat single player experience at launch (Though that's probably on Disney considering how they got hit in the news for gambling).
...not sure it'll work for them. But with 4 more unknown games coming (Burnout/Apex/Fifa being the other 3), we just might see Mass Effect / Dragon Age finally. I am curious to see when they come, I'm assuming the others aren't until November at the earliest if they weren't announced here.
@link3710
That Zoinks game was also announced for Switch. And SIMS 4 is basically a lock. And Unravel (the first) was rated in some country for Switch. With Burnout Paradise, Apex Legends, FIFA 21, Zoinks game, SIMS 4, Unravel, that only leaves room for one game.
Which means Mass Effect Trilogy is shaky. Dragon Age is definitely off the table. But at this point I'll just take a Steam release of Mass Effect. Those games can't be played with a controller currently. Keyboard and mouse only. And unlike EVERY OTHER STEAM GAME where controls can be mapped to a controller, or at very least the Steam controller, it still doesn't work. Error beeps when you move the analog or press buttons. It's a disaster. Apparently there's some mod to get it to work but lots of hoops to jump through to get it to work. I just want a release where I can use controller with gyro.
Ironically, VERY ironically, Wii U is the best place to play Mass Effect 3 right now.

@NEStalgia Thing is, Metriod Prime 4 was announced around the same time, but Nintendo has at least had a few announcements about it. But I totally for SMT was even coming to the Switch until someone mentioned it because there's been total silence since they announced it.

@JaxonH I played through the trilogy on Origin (only thing I've ever used the platform for) on a controller just fine? I had gyro, but I think I configured that with a third-party app, I don't really remember.
Are people still not cutting EA some slack? Why? Look what they have done recently. Released a Single-player Star Wars(that's loved by the way), Released the Command & Conquer remaster, and fixed the problems with Battlefront 2. I like to rip apart EA more than the next guy, but as of right now, EA is not this terrible fiend that everyone is making them out to be.
The Harder the conflict, the more glorious the triumph. When the going gets tough, the tough gets going.
As much as it still turns my gut to say it, EA has, at least seemed, to change some of their unpopular tendencies.
They might claim to be releasing 7 games in the next year on Switch, but if it's seven mediocre ports missing entire game modes/relabelled versions of existing titles with no updates, or shovelware mobile ports, then as far as I'm concerned, we're better off without them.
However if they bring some genuinely good titles to Switch they may win me over. Stuff like the ME Trilogy, Sims or Dragon Age. Or, you know, maybe a new title actually intended for Switch, rather than a port? That is an option too. I'd love a "SimCity: Switch" for example. Since Cities Skylines has seemingly no intent to support their great game on Switch anymore.
Personally, the biggest thing and almost the only thing I want, is the ME Trilogy on Switch. They don't even need to be remasters, just straight ports of the PS360 era versions. Maybe with some updated UI options for the smaller screen size.
@MsJubilee I mean, I still blame them for killing Mass Effect, Ultima, Dragon Age, turning Sims into trash, horrible treatment of employees, being one of the biggest offenders of carving out parts of the game for Day 1 DLC, popularizing loot boxes in non-F2P games, absorbing multiple other gaming companies each year and doing nothing with most of them, etc. But I did at least say they're trying to turn things around.
Two years of good behavior isn't enough for me to believe they've changed though. I'm still pretty sure this is just a temporary ruse to get their image out of the dumpster, then they'll be right back to their predatory business practices. EA's been the poster boy for bad publishers since the 90s (well, them and Konami), so...
@Heavyarms55
I will not wishing The Sims 4 on Switch anymore.
EA have decided to support Steam instead of Switch.
And i already have The Sims 4 PS4 version so i just only focus on 1 platform while the Expansion Packs on PS4 disc (Cats & Dogs bundle, Island Living bundle) already available in Indonesia.
@Heavyarms55
I'd argue new games are almost entirely off the table for Switch when it comes to 3rd parties. At least, day and date.
And honestly, I'm ok with that. I do understand it's a full generation behind in power (soon to be two) and running on ARM architecture, and with a fanbase that historically has shown little interest in 3rd party games as a general rule. As much as we hate to admit it we have to make peace with that fact- we as a community have contributed to the idea that 3rd party games dont sell on Nintendo, even now the best selling 3rd party game on Switch is a Mario title from Ubisoft, and even that hasn't hit 3m yet. That's not to say more mid-tier games don't sell well, on the contrary we have countless examples where Switch versions sold respectably well if not more. But the big league sales have never been Nintendo platforms' strong suit.
The way I see it, Switch has found a nice little rhythm picking up great games cherry picked over the past generation or two. Burnout Paradise IS a great game, make no mistake. And though I won't be partaking, so is Apex Legends. A quality game tomorrow is just as fun as a quality game today. Unless it gets so old the gameplay mechanics and graphics become so dated they interfere with modern expectations, it's really not an issue.
For me, the question is which games will come. I'd love to see Mass Effect, absolutely, or even Dragon Age (though as someone who beat Inquisition and loved it, in hindsight it wasnt quite as good as I thought at the time), but that doesn't mean I don't appreciate these other games.
Still, I think there is some merit to what you're saying. And not just for EA. There are alot of games that would run well and make sense for Switch that companies are downright ignoring. They have failed to adapt to the paradigm shift. It happened so fast, but Switch really changed the landscape of expectations. After a while you start resenting any game that's not hybrid, at least the ones the hardware could obviously handle.

So i just watched EA Play. EA had an entertaining presentation. Full of games. Andrew Wilson came across as a human being. The was no serious cringe. There was not a full hour of FIFA and Battlefield. Sports was barely mentioned except it's own montage. Esports wasn't even mentioned. The EA presentation was..... Good!
The first game in the show..... It's coming to Switch.
This world is a changed and confusing place. I feel naked, frightened, and alone.
@Heavyarms55 Well, FIFA Legacy is gimped but we all knew that would happen. Burnout and Apex don't appear to be. Unravel is almost certain, and given Unravel 2 was a great port, that one stands to be good as well.
And most notably, Lost in Random is an actual new title launching on both Switch and PS4, from the developers of Fe. So yeah, that's a brand new non-sports title from EA. Not a major one, but it's the first they've put on a Nintendo platform at launch since Need for Speed: The Run in 2011, and that one was incredibly gimped.
@JaxonH I've never accepted that idea. 3rd Party developers rarely if ever properly develop for Nintendo consoles. I'm not talking about releasing the same 3rd party games as the Sony and MS offers. There's nothing stopping a 3rd party from bringing their A game to the table and making a game with the Switch in mind first, and then perhaps an upgraded version for more powerful consoles. But they never do that. 3rd parties give Nintendo downgraded titles, shovelware, or otherwise at best, B-level effort and then when those sub-par offerings don't do as well, we get this "Nintendo fans don't like 3rd party" nonsense.

@Heavyarms55
Eh... we got Zombi U, which was high budget, developed for Wii U in mind. Couldn't even break a million as a launch title. Rayman Legends, same thing. Octopath, barely 1m. Mario Rabbids, using Nintendo's biggest IP, barely over 2m.
So I don't think it's entirely BS. I think it's bs for mid-tier games, but 100% truth for any sales expectations beyond 500k-1m.
And I can list a TON of Switch titles that aren't heavily downgraded (only the bare minimum necessary to run on the system), fantastic titles, with unique features and excellent performance, grade A effort, chef's kiss all the way, and while they have done well enough to warrant more support in most cases, very few have even broken past the 500k mark. Resident Evil Revelations on 3DS, even after all the $5 fire sales years later, barely over 1m. Same for Kingdom Hearts Dream Drop Distance. These were high quality exclusive titles developed ground up for the system. Even Vita managed to see RE Revelations 2 match those numbers, and it was a garbage port on a Wii U-level failed system. Just for perspective.
There's kind of a reason Nintendo isn't the target platform most of the time. And I say this as a HUGE advocate for Switch support from 3rd parties. There are a few exceptions that break this mold (Monster Hunter is one of them), but those are exceptions, not the rule.
That all said, I still think the bigger companies should develop at least one each of their top 2-3 main franchises for Switch as a bespoke, exclusive entry with a mid-tier budget, if they can't find a way to bring current entries over.
