@JaxonH@Grumblevolcano I'm pretty sure I know why the 3D World levels were removed. It's the same reason the old battle mode in MK8DX wasn't left in, and certain old stages didn't return in Super Smash Bros Ultimate.
All of these things were only in the game because of a lack of development time, not the creator's vision. The 3D World levels were literally ripped straight out of 3D World with no changes to make them interesting or worth playing as Captain Toad. MK8's battle mode was the same, ripping the tracks from the main game rather than building proper tracks for the mode. And Smash Ultimate didn't bring back levels like Pokefloats (made at the last minute out of Stadium assets thanks to the other Pokemon level getting reworked into Fourside) or Rainbow Road (made entirely out of recycled geometry from Mario Kart 7) for that exact reason.
Basically, if something only exists due to the fact that it could be slapped together from pre-existing assets to meet a deadline, it's unlikely to return.
@Monkeido
There’s no indication it’s Switch specific. It’s very misleading how they have “Direct” in the name despite this having nothing to do with Nintendo. And it’s just a bunch of smaller indie games anyways. Maybe we’ll see a few end up on Switch but my guess is, if there was anything noteworthy it would be announced separately. But, who knows, maybe I’m wrong.

That’s an interesting point. Mario Kart 8 I understand, but I was unaware the 3D World levels in Captain Toad were just ripped from the game. Not even sure how they managed to make that work, since Captain Toad levels are all cubes with hidden stars.

@JaxonH It was normal 3D World levels (the ones you play with Mario, Luigi, Peach, Toad, Rosalina) like Super Bell Hill that you could play through using Captain Toad.
@JaxonH The 3D World levels aren't like normal stages. If you've played 3D World, the first bonus level (for example) was just the first level of the game. You had to walk to the end (and I think there was an extra clear pipe for a part you couldn't clear otherwise), and the star just replaced the flagpole. There were no hidden secrets.
Basically, you aren't missing anything by them not being there.
@link3710
Ah I remember now. That’s right. That’s how Captain Toad came to be in the first place (speaking of which, Toad always deserved his own game, now I want a Captain Toad amiibo dangit).
Perhaps an even more interesting theory: they knew they were going to port 3D World and didn’t want the Capt Toad sections to have already been seen in the game (since Switch is mostly a new audience, and I’m betting they expected a lot more success for Captain toad than it actually saw).

@JaxonH I think you misunderstood. It's not the Captain Toad levels from 3D World that were in Captain Toad on Wii U, it's the actual 3D World level. I'm just linking a video of what in the world was actually removed.
Not that your theory doesn't work to some degree, but this is literally all that was removed. It's not much, and quite frankly it wasn't even fun since it's not designed to be played by Captain Toad.
@JaxonH My guess is they'll do something like: "Have a Super Mario 3D World for Switch save file and unlock the stages in Captain Toad for Switch". Swap Switch with Wii U and you have one of the original ways to unlock the courses in the Wii U version..
So has anyone else noticed their dust cover over the game slot starting to get loose? I've taken care to be very careful with mine, but after 3 years now it's starting to loosen up. I know a friend of mine bent his way out of shape within a few weeks. I really wish they went with a hinge instead of that bendy plastic that they did. I expect in the future that most old Switch will have worn out or even broken dust covers as a result.

That’s kinda lame. Idk why they even bothered in the first place. I thought they were actual Captain Toad levels. This seems more like, Idk, an Easter egg.

Mine are doing ok, however, I did go all digital so there’s that. But I do have my physical only Switch I never use (more just for preservation, I can actually have every game I own without any archived on a single MicroSD when it’s all physical as much as possible). So I’m not constantly putting carts in and out but I do have 300+ physical games, all of which have been put in and taken out and put in several other times for updates (because when you own a game physically and digitally if you try to update it it will actually re-download the entire game because it thinks that’s what you want to do, so if I want to update a game on that system I have to physically put the cartridge in before hitting update software so that it only updates the software rather than re-download the digital version... probably not a problem anyone else has encountered but me). I do try to be very careful with it though.

@JaxonH I did not know that. I don't have any games on Switch that I own both physically and digitally. That sounds like quite a pain in the butt then! And wow, 300+ games? Are you counting doubles in that number or do you mean 300 different games?

Yea, I'm all physical so I'm swapping constantly. I'm really surprised mine hasn't snapped off, to be honest. I'm sure it will soon, but I won't get upset about it. I'm really thinking I'll be buying a new Switch next year... and it's gonna be a PRO! lol
@JaxonH Well, the 3D World levels in Captain Toad were sort of an easter egg. They were one of the last few things you could unlock in the bonus chapters.
@Heavyarms55
That’s just different physical games. It is a pain, but I only go update once every few months and just hit everything I remember seeing articles about.

@Heavyarms55 I thought I had seen replacement game card slot covers on nintendo's store site for Switch replacement parts. But when I look now, at the us site, they only have hdmi cables. I know they AT LEAST used to carry extra kickstands, and I don't see them either. Maybe covid has impacted replacement parts, or they stopped carrying parts. Although, if you did get a new game card slot cover, I think the switch cover has to be taken apart to replace it - I'm not certain about that though. If you knew all this, you can disregard
Nintendo Switch has like 3 different SKUs in Amazon Best Selling Video Games category, all of which are marked up over 50% by 3rd party sellers. $300 Switch Lite is #7 and several $450-500 Switches in top 100.
That’s madness. Crazy mark ups and people are still buying them in numbers to put them in the best sellers list. Nintendo better start cranking up the output one way or another. I suppose if nothing else, this period of time will serve to soak up a lot of the secondhand market on eBay for used systems, which will help drive sales of new systems down the line because there will be less available as used.
I can’t wait to see Switch break 100 million. It’ll feel like justification toward these companies that have completely ignored it. And maybe, just maybe, when they see that day coming some of the last stragglers will jump on board. There has been renewed talk of a Switch MH game lately from an insider. Perhaps the latter half of this generation will see Capcom finally bust out that MH and Resident Evil Revelations 3. I still recall their shareholder meeting statement, “it’s normal to release ports early in a system’s lifespan”. Which I presume is because they were unsure of Switch’s success. Port games for a few years and see how things pan out. After the trial. Start developing a few new games but they won’t be ready until year 5 - 6 of the system’s life. I’ll see you in another 18 months Capcom.
