I predict the October game that will get the most attention is Ring Fit Adventure.

True, but we do know how well certain games do statistically on average, which is why it’s so easy to see when a game of similar acclaim and quality does significantly worse. The power to detect a difference becomes apparent the greater the deviation from the norm.

I’ve been following Amazon best sellers and the eShop charts every few days since the Switch launched. It’s been a great curiosity of mine to see how well games do now that Nintendo has finally provided a viable platform for 3rd parties. After nearly 3 years of monitoring these rankings on a weekly basis, it becomes quite easy to spot when a game does significantly worse than other, similar, equally acclaimed games of similar quality and renown (and when games do better, for that matter).

Hollow Knight, for example, sold 250k on Switch, as digital-only, in the first 2 weeks, and it flew to the top spot and absolutely crushed it at #1. So a digital-only game that fights tooth and nail to break top 5 in the first two weeks is going to do far, far worse. 50-100k if I had to guess, and that’s on a good day. Compare that to the 1.7m provided by the person above, and well...

I'd go with Luigi's Mansion.

My money's on The Witcher III. While Pokemon S/S will lock down November handedly. December? Haven't got a clue. I have my eye on Heroland and that's about it.

Switch Physical Collection - 1,536 games (as of December 14th, 2025)
Switch 2 Physical Collection - 4 games (as of December 8th, 2025)

I'll just offer up a quiet prayer for AI: The Somnium Files, which appears to have been COMPLETELY steamrolled by the competition this September.

@Ralizah
I know you like your AI Somnium Files. It gets awarded the 🏆 for #1 casualty of the September lineup 😂

I tried to do my part... I bought my copy (and it was surprisingly fun, more so than I expected).

But that was a niche game so, it may have actually done well enough within expectations? I’m not really sure how well those kinds of games do overall though.

I would have bought AI and Witcher 3 both if my funding lets me, but no. I only have around 1 AAA game per two months if I'm being generous and with that kind of funding I'll pick games I know I'll love more than ones I'm uncertain.

The battery life on this new Switch is legit.

Been playing Dragon Quest XI S in handheld mode for like, at least 45-50 minutes, then checking the battery which is still at 85%. Ahhhh... it feels so good having hefty battery life like this. I no longer feel like I have to ration out play time in handheld mode, always worrying about the battery. And even though I’ve rarely ran out of battery before, that’s because I never played it that long in handheld specifically because I knew it didn’t last that long. But now that I know this thing can last 5+ hrs at a crack playing AAA, full console quality games like Dragon Quest XI S: Echoes of an Elusive Age - Definitive Edition (heh, I just wanted to say the full name 😁 ) that nagging feeling of “gonna have to dock it soon- too much handheld fun is not allowed” is gone.

It’s pure luxury. At least for the v2 Switch. The Lite only seems to get like 30-40 min extra playtime. But hey, I’ll take it.

The feeling of upgrading to a 5 hr Switch with an appealing design, and a featherweight Switch Lite to share games between... it feels almost like when you buy a new console at the start of a new generation. It’s just such a luxurious upgrade. And I can’t decide which way to play handheld. Loving the lightweight, super comfy Switch Lite with D-pad and higher PPI, but also loving the uber-battery, special edition Switch with XXL sized screen. It just feels so good playing games on it and seeing those DQ designs and rich blue colored joycon...

It feels exciting playing Switch again. Like, genuinely exciting just holding it in your hand. That feeling had long since worn off (though the games were still exciting by sheer virtue of being hybrid versions). I’m sure this will eventually fade as well, but I’m enjoying it while it lasts.

I think part of it too, though, is finally making the full transition to digital with these Switches. Finally decided there’s no sense paying all this money for digital copies of the best games if I’m not taking advantage of that convenience. No more backup SDs with digital copies. I want all my games digital on these Switches so I can play any game I want to at any time. And if I don’t like a physical copy of a game enough to buy it digitally... then I’m probably not going to play it in the first place, so no need to clutter up the game selection menu with hundreds of icons of games I’ll likely never play. Same goes for tons of mediocre indies and NeoGeo titles. I’m tired of scrolling through 300 icons to find a game. I’m done with it. Digital only from now on, and only for the games I’m actually planning on playing or will realistically want to play at some point. It makes the library much smaller and of a higher purity and higher quality. Better to have 100 of the absolute best, all digital, than 300 chock full of games I’ll probably never play and most of them requiring a cartridge. Got rid of my EU and JP accounts as well, and chose to skip user selection when starting a game. It’s put all my favorite games at my fingertips for instant access, and that’s actually been the biggest contributing factor to this resurgence of excitement.

@JaxonH I might just have to see if I can draw up some Ori fanart to try and get something going on Reddit. Of course, I'm a terrible artist, but the lack of any Ori fanart is a crime.

As for the new Switch, I'm really dying for that better battery life. Just gotta wait for an LE to come out for it, cause I'm not getting a new base model.

https://gematsu.com/2019/09/atelier-ryza-sales-top-150000-in-...

Atelier Ryza: Ever Darkness & the Secret Hideout sold more than 150,000 copies during its first week of release in Japan last week, according to a Wall Street Journal report.

According to the outlet, pre-orders for the game outpaced those for recent games in the 22-year-old Atelier series, and sales were the fastest for any title in series.

Nice. I wonder what the Switch vs PS4 sales ratio is like.

So apparently Nintendo does have a December game (at least in Japan)... and it's Brain Training. Well played Nintendo, I did not see that coming.

Honestly, Untitled Goose Game has been blowing up everywhere on social media. Some celebrities (not YouTubers) like Chrissy Teigen (John Legend's wife) even talked about it, which means you're DEFINITELY getting more eyes on it.

To a point where it overshadowed quite a few other things, but it is what it is.

So, having been playing Dragon Quest Builders 2, I have suddenly discovered my true calling in life: Slumlord!!

I need to turn this latent talent into a successful IRL career path. I never knew I was so talented in human exploitation! My people are sleeping in the streets, and I take care of their needs...building dormitories in the tightest quarters possible, with beds you have to walk through to get to the end ones. That's not enough? I start stacking them into high rises of identical floor plans!! I've introduced for the first time ever, Projects into the world of Dragon Quest! That 1 tile alleyway between 5 buildings is too dark? Fine. ONE sconce creates just enough light for the whole length. Don't waste it you decadents! Oh, one member wants their own room with a bed and curtains and a partition and a dresser! You need exactly 6 tiles for those. That's the size of your room. It'll be made of poisoned mud. The toilet will be right next door.

My efficiency in treating humans as commoditized livestock is exemplary!!

@EvilLucario I'm still 100% convinced Untitled Goose Game is a stealth viral marketing campaign masquerading as a video game. You don't get this attention on your own in 2019. Someone is placing it very cleverly. There's a marketing genius (and a lot of money) behind it's rise, I guarantee you. Remember the thing has a governmental backing. Those are very deep quiet coffers to fund things. Nothing in life is as it seems, and even less of it resembles fairness.

It's a cute game...but this odd virility smacks of strategy and subterfuge.

@NEStalgia I approve of this tactic. Serves them right for demanding rent-controlled quarters.

@NEStalgia That's quite a conspiracy! But what product or service do you think Goose Game is intended to push?

@Ralizah Obviously they want you to think the world is run be goose people instead of lizard people

DarkRula

I've only seen the goose be played by the Yogscast, but it looks... slightly interesting as a game? As others have said, nothing really special. It does present some fun with its sandbox-like qualities, and a few of the puzzles can present a bit of a challenge, but it certainly isn't worth the amount of exposure it is getting even with the inherent newness of playing as a goose.

DarkRula

link3710

@DarkRula It's not getting interest for doing anything new, it's the general idea that matters more than the gameplay. Being an angry goose is something that's easy to communicate, novel, and interesting, thus leading it to propagate social media far easier than something like Ori which has incredibly deep themes and gameplay, but looks far more intimidating to try and understand.

Maybe I'm living under a rock, but I haven't seen a lot of the goose game, spare a review or two in my YouTube feed.

Def getting Witcher and Luigi's Mansion this month. And finally Marvel Ultimate Alliance. Gonna cut myself off at those.

And Smash DLC.
