So, I was planning on giving Bloodstained a pass at launch, but EVERYTHING I've heard about it so far on the grapevine has ranged from positive to positively ecstatic. The general consensus seems to be that the game is a worthy successor to Order of Ecclesia and the Castlevania brand more broadly.

@Ralizah i saw that. After i get my fill of Mario maker 2 I'll grab it. I'm not grabbing anything releasing in July so I'll have some free time. My next big purchase is astral chain
Notable July Releases
Red Faction Geurilla ReMARstered
God Eater 3
Dragon Quest Builders 2
Wolfenstein Youngblood
Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3
Fire Emblem Three Houses
Bold move. Even if I skipped DQ Builders, Wolfenstein and Marvel Ultimate Alliance, there’s not enough money in the world that could stop me from playing Fire Emblem Three Houses the day it drops. I’ll be scheduling vacation from work for that release. I think of nothing else now. Day and night I dream of playing that game.
I don’t think I’ve been this excited for a video game since Monster Hunter World nearly 2 years ago.
Psalms 22:16 (1,000 yrs before Christ)
They pierced My hands and feet
Isaiah 53:5 (700 yrs before Christ)
He was pierced for our transgressions
Zachariah 12:10 (500 yrs before Christ)
They will look on Me whom they pierced
@JaxonH none of them are really my type of game, maybe marvel ultimate alliance but that's it for me. The game I'll be possibly taking off for is links awakening.
@Ralizah Dude, I literally just beat Bloodstained right now after around 10 hours of gameplay. It REALLY IS PHENOMENAL. I'm already itching to 100% the rest of the game, do a NG+ run, and then start a new playthrough on Hard and then eventually Nightmare (both are locked at the start, and Nightmare is still locked for me at the moment).
It uses Aria/Dawn of Sorrow as the base while mixing in some neat mechanics from Symphony of the Night (command inputs and ability to aim some weapons diagonally down) and channels Order of Ecclesia's difficulty.
$40 is a perfectly fine price for anyone else wondering btw. Considering that the GBA/DS games all launched at $35 back then, what you get in Bloodstained FAR surpasses the GBA/DS games' production values, and even though it's slightly lesser in overall content, like how Zangetsu Mode (which is basically Julius/Sisters/Richter/Albus Mode) isn't in yet, this is 100% worth anyone's money if you love Castlevania and/or Metroidvanias.
Also at least on PC, I can't get over how good this game looks and runs allowing for uncapped framerates! Cutscenes are unfortunately janky with very stiff and C-grade animations, but gameplay graphics/animation is just a solid 9.5/10 with only a tiny few weird animations on some enemies that don't hold up.
Easily top 5 game of 2019. So damn happy. Definitely will double-dip for Switch when I get the chance. This deserves all of my money.
As a Switch physical collector July is brutal. The North American releases alone are all pretty stellar. But this doesn't include exclusive releases from Europe, Japan, Southeast Asia, boutique publishers, independent publishers, etc. For me, it's a budget-busting month, so I'll have to be a bit more selective than I'd like to be.

Switch Physical Collection - 1,536 games (as of December 14th, 2025)
Switch 2 Physical Collection - 4 games (as of December 8th, 2025)
I'd like a UK physical of gungeon. Still not sure if I'll pick up dragon quest builders 2. I haven't played the first one, or minecraft or any regular dragon quest games. It looks interesting though...
July is pretty empty for me . Marvel Alliance is pretty well the only Switch game that month I want or interests me. Be a good month to catch up on backlog.
@ReaderRagfish Really depends on how my budget goes. I'm buying less physical currently so some digital games I just slap on the wish list and wait until they go on sale. Otherwise I tend to buy day one because a lot of games I like are niche and have limited print runs and I'd rather pay full price than whatever nonsense Gamestop will mark it up to later or having to stalk ebay. I've been a poor gamer (read: College Student) before and its not worth the footwork you put in later imo. I budget to pay full price, just to save myself the annoyance of hoping something is on sale when I may want to play it now. Also the rest of the year has most of the "I want to play this as soon as it drops because I gave another game right behind it" titles for me. Next month alone is egregious because of DQB2/ MUA /FE3H.
Of course I'm about to start a second job to pay for all of this so who knows...I'll be in here whining about not being done with FE3H in October...lol.

@JaxonH I think there's a special award for you for being the only person on the internet who has any memory at all of the existence of red faction. Poor thing should just launch into the clearance bin given what it's up against.... They have a 10 year old game and still managed to miss the full year of crickets on Switch, waiting to release until the unrelenting onslaught for the next 10 months begins.....
DQB2 and SMM2 launching within weeks of each other is a truly dangerous combination....and I don't even generally do "creative" games. And that's excluding FE. I love FE but suck miserably at it so my attention span tends to wane on it.
@Ryu_Niiyama You still won't be done AC: Sparta by then. I won't have even be done Odyssey yet.
@ReaderRagfish The price for the first party games won't be going down. That list is huge enough!
@NEStalgia I'm mostly done with AC: Sparta. I'm waiting on all the rest of the dlc to drop before I jump back in (although I do want to try the story creator). Afterall the DLC has the aspects of AC that I actually care about (the Isu) and since it is a bad AC game (they really neutered the assassin capabilities) I'm just there because I love Kassandra's voice actor. And Greece is pretty, but there isn't much upward mobility in ancient Greece. Yeah you can climb mountains but who cares, the joy of AC was leaping rooftop to rooftop avoiding guards. While AC3 is similarly flat I'll head back in just to feel like an assassin again.
All bets are off after FE3H drops though. I expect to fall off the grid.

@Ryu_Niiyama Wow, Sparta killed the Assassin-y feel? I thought Origins did it really well, though, honestly even 2 never felt very assasiny to me. They left Assassining at the door after 1. I still adore 1. Origins was the closest to that feeling I've experienced since. 3 was....awful, but I'm hoping the remaster fixes that. They said they were trying to.
I'll be on the boards complaining i have no idea how to win when FF3H drops. I think I'll have to go with "baby mode"
