The overexposure of Smash long before the very late December release really killed all hype I had for Smash. I'm still getting it, but while months ago it was "oh yeah this looks pretty fun" I'm now more like "yeah, I guess smash is ok, on the backlog it goes. (Goes back to Starlink and Dark Souls and Civ soon.)

@Grumblevolcano Eh, Diablo will be fine. A Smash Direct next Thursday (November 8th) won't affect sales at all.

I'm sure we'll get one at some point either November or right before release

@IceClimbers
I greatly look forward to Diablo III, though I've never played a Diablo game, the gameplay pics reminded me greatly of Gauntlet, a game i have loved for a very long time

NEStalgia

@jhewitt3476 Diablo 1 was essentially a Gauntlet clone. Just as Warcraft was more or less a Dune clone. Blizzards MO back then was to reinvent existing genres. And they did it well enough that theirs became the standard bearers and what came before gets largely forgotten. So, yeah, you'll love it. D3 is more action0-y and fast paced than 1 and 2. With more of a Warcraft 3 aesthetic (for better or worse.) 3 doesn't break your mouse though, so I'll take it

Guys, I noticed when I play Dark Souls or Titan Quest that my Switch's fan starts to spin faster than normal and ... well it produces sound. By sound I mean that it is higher than normal. I wonder if that is ok?

I known that it should push the hot air out but I am always so negative about console noise levels.

Nemodius

@Zuljaras
I do imagine a game like that eating up the resources of the game, cpu, gpu, ram, which also draws battery a lot more, so I imagine the cooling fan has to work overtime as such

most gaming PC's have specialized cooling systems because of the high resource use and the fans, heatsinks and even the liquid cooling systems have to fight to maintain a respectable temperature that won't fry the components

but no matter the system, the cooling system will let you know what it is doing and how hard

NEStalgia

@Zuljaras LOL, you seriously have the most OCD fixation on console fan noise ever. You've now panicked over every current gen console's fan

I haven't noticed much with DS, but the system does seem to eat battery faster than average handheld. And it's always online, so that doesn't help. TQ is just a bad port that's probably pushing the CPU to max. It runs ok, but the optimization is terrible, framerate drop is common. No suprise that one revs the fan when docked.

NEStalgia

NEStalgia

@Zuljaras Yeah it runs at higher speed docked both because it's not conserving power, and also because when docked the whole system runs more powerfully (thus 720p vs 1080p output) and gets hotter.

@Octane
Leave it to NintendoLife to glaze over confirmation of one of the biggest AAA titles out there being confirmed for Switch, while focusing on reporting news of a game not coming instead.

If there's a negative angle to be had, they'll have it, and then seconds.

Psalms 22:16 (1,000 yrs before Christ)
They pierced My hands and feet
Isaiah 53:5 (700 yrs before Christ)
He was pierced for our transgressions
Zachariah 12:10 (500 yrs before Christ)
They will look on Me whom they pierced

@JaxonH I understand that from a business perspective, clicks equal money and we all know negative articles generates clicks - especially when articles are about Nintendo. However, I do feel that this site seems to push the negative angle against Nintendo a little too much sometimes. From what little I have visited the sister Push Square site, they don't seem to be negative towards Sony/PlayStation though as I said, I don't visit the site enough to know whether that is the case or not.

I get wanting to be impartial and trust me, I try my best to be that way, but always give credit where credit is due.

Metroid, Xenoblade, EarthBound shill

I run a YouTube/Twitch channel for fun. Check me out if you want to!

Please let me know before you send me a FC request, thanks.

@ReaderRagfish
it's good that this site explores its competition, as for propagating negativity against some Nintendo games and products, it's natural, various opinions differ, but can also cause educational and even entertaining debate.....

Nintendo and it's products are NOT Jesus Christ perfect and opinions against Nintendo or its products and policies is not treachery......

at least not in America.

@ReaderRagfish Segalife more like.
I sometimes feel that'd be the name of the site had the dreamcast not failed 😋

FragRed

@Illusion I wonder, if the Dreamcast not failed, would Microsoft have entered the scene? And if so, would it be able to sustain 4 competing systems? Wonder who’d have lost out. So many what ifs but a curious scenario that could easily have happened.

I think there's a difference between tipping the hat to competition and sharing in the excitement of other non-Nintendo products, as well as occasionally spotlighting a concern or gripe when it's warranted...

I think there's a difference between that and what, at least at times, seems to be a proactive attempt to meet a quota of negative articles in an effort to portray this site as being fair and balanced, when in reality it's nothing more than affirmative-action for complaints.

I don't think there's anything wrong with them reporting on the Fallout 76 situation. It's news. Good or bad, it's noteworthy and should be reported. But to omit the very major news of Wolfenstein which is far, far more noteworthy (and exciting!) would almost have to be intentional, perhaps out of some misguided guilt trip for exceeding their positive article daily cap?

Idk. Maybe everything I'm saying is nonsense. But it does seem like they go out of their way to spotlight a certain number of "I feel so upset this isn't coming to Switch" articles.

@ReaderRagfish
I ended up getting the PS 2 myself, now the power and ports wasn't my problem, it was the games themselves, it just didn't have enough games, I felt even after 2 years I wasted my money, I spent 80% of my time play my PSX games on it

"If failure is the greatest teacher, how come we are not the most superior beings in the universe ???"

Grumblevolcano

@subpopz Functionality outside playing games has been a recurring trend of helping consoles since the PS1 era yet the Switch is doing well despite ignoring that approach. Over 1 and a half years old and no sign of stuff like internet browser, Netflix, Youtube, etc.

Switch is pretty much a gaming machine and nothing else and it's doing well with that approach.
