@NEStalgia pre steam (I don’t like steam or the other storefronts actually gog is wonderful ) started in 03 (gaming seriously that is) with age of mythology. I adore RTS games and since they are mostly PC affairs that’s how I got hooked. Granted I always grabbed drm circumventing software or cracks even with software I own. DRM is beyond anti consumer and anti privacy. Especially since I didn’t get high speed internet until college so anything to circumvent internet checks was welcome. Beyond that up until 05 I used big box or hand me down PCs then I built from “newegg parts” lol. Never had any major issues. All my ac games worked but unity. Granted I never went back after all the patches. Last AC side comment: ubi is all over the place with the character development and pacing. I felt more for the plot device kid than deimos. I don’t think my Kassandra is going to have a good life. Half the options I’m like “why would she say that? Nobody would say that. “ Also Daphnae, you have no right to break my heart like that. Even with recycled dialogue (this is why I hate voice acting still).

As for the FF games I will take digital over not at all. Half of the old games are digital only on other storefront. Nintendo was the last hold out for the game being on the media with no install. That time has passed. Best to get a big sd card on sale and play some games.

@JaxonH @link3710 I like how NLife did report on Fallout 76 not coming to Switch, but completely missed the announcement that Young Blood is confirmed for Switch

Haruki_NLI

That's because we don't know if it IS Youngblood or not. He said "the next Wolfenstein" and Youngblood isn't the next full title, instead being another side story.

So until we get the specific name, it's not confirmed. All we know is A Wolfenstein is coming.

@Knuckles-Fajita The ''next Wolfenstein''; Youngblood is the next Wolfenstein, regardless of whether it is a numbered title or not. Even if you want to be pedantic; it's a lot more reasonable to assume that next year's title is making its way to the Switch, considering that it's probably built in the same engine; rather than a possible 2020/21 title that may very well be on next gen systems at that point.

Haruki_NLI

@Octane On the note of "the same engine", DOOM and Wolf2 are idTech 6, whereas Eternal is already on the new idTech 7. Plus Wolf2 was allaged closer to 7 than 6, so a different engine quite clearly isnt an issue.

Timescale, maybe. But the engine? Given Eternal is coming, nah.

@Ryu_Niiyama 03? Kids, these days.... That's why my "newer builds" (that went wrong) started Actually that was probably the worst one. Opteron rig. Early adopter. Dual boot windows/linux. The amount of custom kernel compiles required, endless reboots to get the custom kernel modules running right, to get the nforce (or sandforce?) chipset running, the SATA running on both OSes took about 2 months spending all night on it. It overheated like crazy, lost one video card (I remember AoE 3 non-stop freezing, dealing with both video card and MS support, and still the intermittent nature took a month or two to reveal as a GPU, some time after it started randomly freezing outside games, too, with the solution often being "buy $400 video card, then see if it helps..." Actually, no, I have bad memories of that one but it wasn't the worst. The worst was the one after it, which I did largely to get Jade Empire running (wouldn't install on the other one for some hardware related reason, can't remember what.) Another top end system, early Core 2 Quad adopter when the 4 core models first came out. I figured I'd had it with AMD, time to spend more and go Intel. That one, by the end developed the bad mobo, or bad mobo power connector and would randomly completely lose power. (Which of course leads to data corruption issues etc. over time to deal with as well.) Mobo goes, GPU standards changed again, PSU standard changed, best to just scrap the box. Again....

And you people wonder why I like consoles? If it breaks the whole machine is the part, you just swap it.

Also....DRM cracks? Really? Well that's not playing fair

AC Character pacing. Ac may get the character pacing wrong, but at least they know where the frelling map button goes (glares at RDR2)

@skywake I try to forget

@Knuckles-Fajita It still makes a lot more sense to have Doom, Wolf, Doom, Wolf in a close time frame on Switch than Doom, Wolf, Doom, skip wolf, different major multiplat that may be on PS5/X2 by then wolf on Switch.

@Octane That's ludicrous. That was by far the more important part of the interview, I glazed over that article since it looked so unimportant.

IceClimbers

Hmm, so when do you guys think we'll get that Smash Direct?

Grumblevolcano

@IceClimbers I was very confident about sometime before the hardware bundle released (i.e. November 1st at the latest) but given time is running out fast for that to be the case, I'm leaning towards November 13th or November 15th. That'll give Diablo 3 and other 3rd party games some breathing room. Pokemon is Pokemon, whatever gets announced in a Smash Direct won't affect Let's Go.

NEStalgia

The overexposure of Smash long before the very late December release really killed all hype I had for Smash. I'm still getting it, but while months ago it was "oh yeah this looks pretty fun" I'm now more like "yeah, I guess smash is ok, on the backlog it goes. (Goes back to Starlink and Dark Souls and Civ soon.)

NEStalgia

IceClimbers

@Grumblevolcano Eh, Diablo will be fine. A Smash Direct next Thursday (November 8th) won't affect sales at all.

I'm sure we'll get one at some point either November or right before release

@IceClimbers
I greatly look forward to Diablo III, though I've never played a Diablo game, the gameplay pics reminded me greatly of Gauntlet, a game i have loved for a very long time

NEStalgia

@jhewitt3476 Diablo 1 was essentially a Gauntlet clone. Just as Warcraft was more or less a Dune clone. Blizzards MO back then was to reinvent existing genres. And they did it well enough that theirs became the standard bearers and what came before gets largely forgotten. So, yeah, you'll love it. D3 is more action0-y and fast paced than 1 and 2. With more of a Warcraft 3 aesthetic (for better or worse.) 3 doesn't break your mouse though, so I'll take it

Zuljaras

Guys, I noticed when I play Dark Souls or Titan Quest that my Switch's fan starts to spin faster than normal and ... well it produces sound. By sound I mean that it is higher than normal. I wonder if that is ok?

I known that it should push the hot air out but I am always so negative about console noise levels.

@Zuljaras
I do imagine a game like that eating up the resources of the game, cpu, gpu, ram, which also draws battery a lot more, so I imagine the cooling fan has to work overtime as such

most gaming PC's have specialized cooling systems because of the high resource use and the fans, heatsinks and even the liquid cooling systems have to fight to maintain a respectable temperature that won't fry the components

but no matter the system, the cooling system will let you know what it is doing and how hard

NEStalgia

@Zuljaras LOL, you seriously have the most OCD fixation on console fan noise ever. You've now panicked over every current gen console's fan

I haven't noticed much with DS, but the system does seem to eat battery faster than average handheld. And it's always online, so that doesn't help. TQ is just a bad port that's probably pushing the CPU to max. It runs ok, but the optimization is terrible, framerate drop is common. No suprise that one revs the fan when docked.
