The early adopter nightmare of SATA? SATA was amazing from the start from what I remember. Was very, very happy to finally see the end of IDE... even in that weird period when optical drives were IDE and HDDs were SATA, before the revised connector with the locking mechanism.

Picked up Monster Hunter Generation Ultimate as part of targets 3 for 2 sale today. I'm hoping I can get into it more than I did on the 3DS games. The proper second stick should help a ton alone.
I used a PC for gaming from 1997-2014. In that time my family computer lasted until 2000. I got my own computer which lasted until 2003. I got a new one that lasted until 2007. Then I got a new one (and married) as did my new wife those comps lasted until 2011. Died within a month of eachother. Got a new set. Died 2014 within a month of eachother. She bought an office computer. I got a handmedown laptop from my brother for playing games off of GOG as well as Starcraft II. I'm out of the modern PC playing scene though. I just can't handle tossing an avg of $1500 down for a new gaming PC every 4 years. I'm not particularly tech savvy, so everytime my computers would fail to turn on or repeatedly give me the blue screen of death I'd take them into a computer shop for repair. My first comp from the 2000's needed its power supply replaced three times, then finally suffered from motherboard failure. Every other comp I had also suffered from motherboard failure. So far consoles treat me better and have nearly the same games on them as opposed to the 90s and 2000s when they had vastly different libraries.
Actually legitimately interested/fascinated reading these boards just how many people aren’t fully on-board with digital.
I was always adamant I’d be a physical only person as a lot of people are, but after buying the first few and seeing the ease/convenience & not having to hunt for/store discs/boxes/cartridges I knew I was quickly going to turn over to the dark side. The obnoxious/higher digital costs meant I held out a little longer (anyone remember the digital costs on 360? Absolutely nuts) but once there started being parity & MS/Sony started doing decent sales I was a fully fledged convert. Once Switch came along, given the portable nature it was a no-brainer for me!
Is it just the storage that puts people off digital with Switch? Or the higher digital prices? Lack of trade-in value? All three/something different entirely? Not judging, just interested is all
@subpopz
So you've got two choices here. You can accept that PC has a lot of issues that other peoples deal with, regardless of whether you yourself personally have dealt with them. Or you can call me a liar, and accuse me of making things up, and that these problems never actually happened to me, and that I have a "secret agenda" against PC.
And why would I lie, hmm? Because I'm such a diehard Sony and Xbox fanboy that I just can't stand the thought of PC being better? Raise your hand if you believe that to be the case. Or maybe because I secretly hate PC and I only bought one for my television and a handheld PC to make it seem like I don't hate it? Raise your hand if you believe that to be the case.
I have no motive to lie or exaggerate (and even if I did, I wouldn't)
@BrainOfGrimlock
I WAS an anti-digital guy, and I'm still all physical with my Switch, but yea, it's time to face the music: digital is SO much more convenient.
For a small, small segment of people digital is not good because they are afraid of losing the game if servers go down, game is pulled from eshop, new system and can't figure out the transfer or it breaks, whatever. Even stuff that would never happen. It rarely happens, but yea, some people cling to that explanation.
Very practically, though, sales for physical ARE definitely better, especially if you buy used at Gamestop and take advantage of their sales. They do crazy stuff with used games on the regular that puts online 20-40% discounts to shame, especially on the larger games.
I just reserve physical for games I REALLY want the box art for, like Xenoblade 2 special edition and the DLC. Amazon Prime used to be awesome, but now it's just meh so I don't care either way lol.
Metroid, Xenoblade, EarthBound shill
I run a YouTube/Twitch channel for fun. Check me out if you want to!
Please let me know before you send me a FC request, thanks.
@Therad I wouldn't call next gen a "refresh", the only way Scarlett would be a refresh would be if @NEStalgia's theory of Scarlett games being playable on XB1X happens which would damage Scarlett's potential.
I'm pretty much all digital with my Switch, but that runs into the glaring storage problem, and I only go digital because delivery around here is pathetic.
Now Playing: Mario & Luigi Brothership, Sonic x Shadow Generations

I see no benefit to add an artificial lock between "gens". Having backwards and forwards compatibility is a benefit, not a detriment.
@BrainOfGrimlock
I want to cry & upset if the games i have interest on Nintendo Switch cannot be released in Physical due to cost of cartridge price.
Earthlock that still being digital only made me cry.
And World of Final Fantasy Maxima on Switch will probably digital only for long time unless if SquareEnix announce the Collector edition.
@BrainOfGrimlock I just love the collecting aspect of games. I know that logically digital is by far the best option but something feels so right going into a store and picking up a physical copy and once finished having it sat in your game space with all your other games and collectibles.
@bluemage1989 I totally get it, I did used to love having my 360 games all lined up on a shelf! It actually makes me a little sad now that when I go into a games shop I don’t want to buy anything because i’m so invested in digital. I still like looking in the shops but it’s a pretty empty experience when you know you won’t buy anything?
That said, I find that the first thing I do almost every day on my switch is check the eshop - despite knowing it only tends to update on Tuesdays/Fridays!
Think the nail in the coffing for me was the whole ‘having to install from disc’ stuff and the noise that the drive on my original xbox one made!
@Anti-Matter with all that stress from ‘worrying’ if there’ll be a physical edition, isn’t it just easier to go digi? Realise the cards can be pricey if you want a fair chunk of space but worth missing out on a game or two for the QoL improvement?
I’m asking, not telling btw - I 100% realise that digital is not for everyone
And yeah @rallydefault - the convenience alone is the absolute showstopper of a reason as to why I could never go back. I’ve become so lazy with my gaming even that often I’ll play switch just because I can’t be bothered to wait for the xbox to startup, sign-in, load game etc. We’re talking minutes, but feels like a lifetime compared to the ‘10-second-max time to game’ of Switch. If I had to add in time to change discs etc I think I’d end up watching netflix etc instead for the majority of the time!

This is pure nonsense. No one here can confirm you had those problems or not. It is easy to bolster things on internet as you well know. People exaggerate all the time and/or use stronger words than what has really happened. But the real question is, why do you even feel you need to defend yourself in this way? Why not just let it slide by turning the other cheek?
And my last two comps have been really easy to use, they have installed drivers automatically, it sets the recommended settings in games with the option to change things afterwards. Have I had more trouble with them compared to the switch? Yes I have. But I also use them 10x as much.
I have never had a mouse or keyboard break in the first year, nor any other component. My switch have a hairline crack and a faulty joycon already. Heck, I compared the install between a comp and the Wii u and the PC was by far the easiest to setup. I really don't understand the argument that consoles are simpler. As long as you chose a Intel/Nvidia combo from a respectable brand you are fine.
But most arguments I see online nowadays sounds like how it was during the dark days, I don't think that is representative of how it is today.
@Therad I think for a lot of folk, they spend their day in front of PC's at work. The last thing they want to do is be stuck in front of it at home too lol.
I never drive faster than I can see. Besides, it's all in the reflexes.
@BrainOfGrimlock
I don't want easier way to play games by just download the Apps WITHOUT the existence of Game cartridge.
As collector, i want my games are in Physical release.
I would rather defy all the convenience.
Convenience is comforting, just makes me lazier.
Simple, when i buy something, i want my games are Exist in presence. I don't count my digital games as my collection since they don't exist.
@Therad
There is nothing wrong with me defending my own integrity. Making a valid argument for the fact I am not lying is not "nonsense". People here have known me for long enough to make a judgment call as to what systems I like and play on. And the only motive I would have to lie were the ones listed above.
So again I say, raise your hand if you think I'm a Sony fan boy who is threatened by someone saying PC is better. You make your own judgment call on that. Because I have no horse in this race. I have no reason to exaggerate PC being easier than it is or worse than it is.
But I can point you in the direction of people who do have a horse in the race- take a look in the mirror.
Why do you feel the need to attack someone saying they have issues. I find it extremely ridiculous that people would sit here and try to make it out like PCs have no issues the console's don't have. It takes a diehard PC fanboy of the highest order to even propose such an utterly ridiculous notion.
I was simply listing some of the problems I have had that turned me away from the platform. The more defensive people get about it and the more they attack anyone who voices any sort of issue they have had, the more I'm going to dig my heels in and say you're a fanboy, PCs have all sorts of issues that I don't deal with on consoles. And attacking people for saying such a thing only makes you look more extreme.
If you like PCs more I say good for you. If you don't have the issues that so many other people have with PCs that they don't have a consoles, then I say good for you. Nobody is trying to convince you that your platform of choice is inferior. Because it's not. There are pros and cons, and which is best will completely depend on who you ask, and I'm quite sure that the amount of problems you have completely depends on the set up you have, and whether or not you're trying to use it as a console replacement with the TV.
But don't attack people who are simply sharing the issues they have experienced just because it goes against your own narrative of PC being so much better. That is what's ridiculous.
edit dark ages
It completely depends on your setup. I think that much is clear by the fact I have way less issues on my GPD Win 2 than my PC posing as a console. The 720p screen seems compatible with just about everything (Wolfestein display error during cutscenes aside). The issues for Assassins Creed 2 and DA Origins not having full controller support is also still an issue. But aside from that, pretty much every other problem I've had was on the "console PC". So I can believe that some people out there with a good desktop setup at 1080p or 1440p would have no more issues than I have on the Win 2. And the Win 2 has been mostly a problem free experience, unlike my PC posing as a console connected to a 4K TV.
@Therad I wouldn't call next gen a "refresh", the only way Scarlett would be a refresh would be if @NEStalgia's theory of Scarlett games being playable on XB1X happens which would damage Scarlett's potential.

Backwards compatibility I think is pretty much guaranteed and that's a good thing, don't think Microsoft would've focused so much on the backwards compatibility workaround on XB1 if it wasn't going to happen on next gen. Forwards compatibility on the other hand I don't see happening. As nice as it would be to be able to buy a XB1X and know it would be fully supported for 3-4 more years it would limit potential on the other side maybe such that more games are PS5 exclusive because it doesn't require having to support the weak at the time XB1X.
To bring it back on topic, I totally expect Switch 3rd party support to either plummet or mostly be "cloud versions" when Scarlett and PS5 come out.
@Therad I think for a lot of folk, they spend their day in front of PC's at work. The last thing they want to do is be stuck in front of it at home too lol.
