@subpopz Haha yeah I remember the stories about Ninja Gaiden....shudder
I hear you about playing mostly handheld. It's disappointing that it almost feels like MM11 isnt' a game that wants to be played handheld. Pro is nice but I seem to rarely use it. FWIW some of the most premium controllers (Razer tournament editions in particular) have segmented D-pads as well. Not sure I'd want to platform on them though. For shooters segmented is considered an advantage since you need fixed directions for weapon switches etc. Razer Ultimate editions come with an X360 type cross-disc and a pseudo-segmented sett that are interchangeable.....it's ok but ultimately isn't perfect at either method.
Guacamelee is a ton of fun. A nice, easy Metroidvania with a pretty awesome combat system that's kinda like Smash Bros except enough wrinkles to not make it just a cross between Metroid and Smash Bros.
I'd imagine Guacamelee 2 is more of the same, which is all you really need.

2 more games reported to have "no plans at the moment". I'm noticing a pattern...
Voice Chat Solved
So, I gotta rave about a headset that FINALLY solves the voice chat problem on Switch. It's called the Arctis 3 with Bluetooth. Heard Brian Altano on Nintendo Voice Chat (NVC) podcast talk about them. So I had to get a pair.
And oh my gosh, they work EXACTLY as advertised. Connect to Switch via headphone jack, be it docked or handheld, and connect to phone via bluetooth, and it mixes the audio between them. Volume is loud (a complaint I had with a previous headset) and the program for it on PC lets you set level of volume compression and gate thresholds to filter out background noise.
It's super crisp and clear, and solves the voice chat mixing audio with multiple cables, cords and splitter. None of that is needed with this headset.
A+++++++
I can now play Monster Hunter Generations Ultimate every day after work and voice chat via Discord, leaving my phone sitting on its wireless charger on the nightstand with the screen off, and voice chat with mixed audio from the game and phone, with only one single cable plugged in the headphone jack. If you want to voice chat on Switch, you need this headset!

@JaxonH That's funny, I could have told you that months ago! I've had the Arctis 3 for some time, though I don't actually do voice chat, I just bought it because I needed a wireless closed back can to accompany my open backs, and I loved the utility of using it as a BT receiver for music from my phone, plus the replaceable batteries!
Still kind of convoluted with needing to sync the phone at all, but, yeah, it does work. Also, FWIW, it does support USB Audio if you plug it into the Switch dock and put it on PS4 mode. I'm kind of surprised Switch supports USB audio, but it does, and bypasses the onboard DAC if you have any audiophile tendencies.
GAME is cancelling Black Ops 4 midnight launches in favour of letting you get the game 6 hours before midnight, I hope they do the same for Smash Ultimate.
@Grumblevolcano
not to be dismissive, but "bfd" ??? (I used lower case on purpose because it really is "bfd")
6pm, 12am, or next day, does it really matter ???
are people's bungholes squeezed so tight that if they did do a midnight or even next day their buttholes would spring off and explosions of diarrhea spew out like Kilauea ???
I don't really see why a few hours earlier would matter any more either

ahem that was my impression of the mating call of the gamer in its natural habitat.
Did you miss the beauty of Assassin's Creed: Odyssey and the "Pay us $40 and get a 3 day early access?" I'm not sure what it is about gamers and the gamer instant gratification personality that's so easily exploited, but....it seems like any amount of money for a few hours earlier access is completely acceptable and "same day" is far too late. It's really sad to see. Everyone in this hobby seems like a spoiled 6 year old on Christmas morning.
@NEStalgia Wait seriously, that's a thing? What the heck. I mean, don't get me wrong, I'll probably be playing Smash Bros Ultimate midnight on launch day, but that's mainly because I'll be up anyways and I'm getting it digitally. Other than that one game though... I mean I even get that going to a midnight launch can be fun because you meet other people who are excited about the game. But paying $40 to get a game early? What... what the heck.
@link3710 Basically you get some games early if you buy the special editions. Microsoft started this trend with Forza Horizon 3, Gears of War 4 and Halo Wars 2 Ultimate Editions and then some companies like Ubisoft copied.
@NEStalgia
perhaps my patience came with age, but other than waiting for 8+ hours in 500 foot+ lines outside of a movies theater to watch Empire Strikes Back & Return of the Jedi back in the 80's, lots of people with portable BBQ grills and many more selling can drinks for $2 ea., I can't remember ever doing, seeing or even hearing about people going nuts for any games

Uhm, so what? I've only done one "midnight release", and that was for Final Fantasy XIII. A game which I do enjoy, btw. But I don't have a car. Which means I had to take the bus out to where Gamestop's store is located at around 3pm. Then hang out in the area until midnight. Then, because the guy who was suppose to give me a lift home in exchange for being able to borrow the game in a week was too busy playing Halo 2 multiplayer, I had to walk from one end of town to the other. A trip of about 4 miles or so, partly along a highway. And almost entirely up hill. By the time I got home I was exhausted, I had blood blisters on top of normal blisters on my feet, had almost been hit by drunk drivers six times, and i was seriously pissed at the person who had promised to give me a lift home.
That was the first, last, and only time I bothered with a "midnight release".
If you can wait months or years on a game, I assume you'd be fine waiting another six hours.
I don't even get midnight releases. I'm not going to play a game at midnight, I'm tired at point, I want to sleep. Playing in a miserable state means I will have forgotten most of it the next day too.
Oh man I'm the opposite. When I got Metroid: Samus Returns and Xenoblade 2: Torna, I stayed up the entire night, rip roaring and ready to go and played for like the entire time.
Guess I'm personally much too ravenous to wait even longer lel.

The reason I'm hoping Smash Ultimate can be picked up early is because of The Game Awards. Play it while waiting for The Game Awards start and during boring segments. The event finishes rather late too unless they're cutting it shorter this year.
On another note, I've been replaying the first few levels of Bayonetta to remind myself of story/controls and it runs very well in handheld mode.
No batteries, it has 28 hour life when Bluetooth is on, and recharged via micro USB.
Syncing to phone is literally as easy as tapping the Bluetooth button on my phone. Bluetooth turns on and the headset automatically syncs. Not only is it not convoluted, it's one of the easiest, hassle free syncs of any device I've used.
I haven't tried audio from switch via USB. I just plug it in the Switch headphone jack. Works when it's docked, and it works in handheld mode. And sounds great! So I haven't really had any motivation to do it any other way. By keeping the headphone jack cord attached it works in both modes, rather than just docked with USB.
You don't know how freaking happy I was when I got this thing working though. Oh man... I was just blown away at the voice chat issue on switch being completely obliterated into nothingness. I took that little Hori splitter and chucked it in the garbage. Audios!
