@Grumblevolcano I think BOTW was a long time coming, because Aonuma himself expressed disappointment in Twilight Princess at the very least, for being essentially Ocarina Of Time 2. He wanted to revolutionize more than he was able to.
@Ralizah Between SNK Heroines, ARMS, Pokken and the upcoming Smash, the Switch already has a big list of fairly accessible fighters, and on the flip side you have several old ones like Street Fighter II (and the upcoming collection) and all the SNK releases.
@EvilLucario@JaxonH I like my 1v1 fighters, always have but I've always been terrible at them. I'll be buying the Street Fighter Collection and playing it online against some of the NL community which should be fun. SNK Heroines I'll buy for the fact it's a modern 1v1 fighter and because older SNK games have been a such a huge part of my Switch experience so far.
That Fantasy Strike that was shown in the Nindies Direct looks like it might be a good one for the lesser skilled fighters among us.
Yeah SNK Heroines interests me. Not sure I'll pick it up right away, but it's definitely on the radar. Not much of a fighting game person outside of Smash usually. That being said, I'd buy ports of UMvC3 and Dragon Ball FighterZ in a heartbeat.
@meleebrawler I'm a little surprised we haven't gotten a port of DoA: Last Round yet. It's the fighting game I've been waiting for, but I guess I'll learn SNK Heroines instead. It's certainly appealing looking, even if I have next to no history with SNK fighters (and a lot of history with DoA).
Anyway, it's true that a game like that will probably get buried in September. The same will be true to an extent if Smash releases on the Switch in September.
@FragRed I'm saying that September is a busy month. I think that a game like SNK would fare better in a quieter month. No, I don't think Smash won't be buried, because it will be one of the biggest titles if it's coming in September.
@Octane I totally agree, releasing SNK Heroines will certainly get buried, at least in the West. It may well do far better in Japan depending on how big Spiderman and Tomb Raider is over there. Obviously Smash bros will still be the bigger seller of the two.

@DarthNocturnal Pokemon given the BotW treatment would be basically an open world Pokemon game where you can complete the game in any order and the battles themselves is essentially Pokken gameplay. Fire Emblem given the BotW treatment would probably look like an open world mashup between Warriors, Shadows of Valentia dungeons and Mario + Rabbids.
I would say that an open world pokemon with pokken combat would be a much more radical departure than botw was.
I would say that both games will have the turnbased combat, even if they try and change the formula. Even with all the changes they made to 3D Zelda, they didn't change the core that much. Zelda is still an action rpg with exploratory elements, as it has been since the beginning.

Oh, my....
Like a dream come true.
Because until Ultra Sun / Moon, the gameplay still looks SAME as previous Pokemons.
Need a Drastic changes in good way.
And Goodness knows
The wicked's lives are lonely
Goodness knows
The wicked die alone...
Imo, base gameplay should stay the same, turn based combat.
Action is fine as long as it's on spin offs (' - '
(I always feel Pokemon's gameplay is its core, not its story, etc, but the battle system itself. The moment it changes, it makes it... not Pokemon anymore)

I think if they did such an radical change, they would probably benefit to create a new name (i.e Pokemon World), to lessen the impact from people that like the old formula.

They can probably change the combat formula a bit and still have it feel like pokemon. But I agree it should still be turn-based. Perhaps steal the 1-dimensional combat from darkest dungeon....
Final Fantasy in the end tend to lean more on the story/world than the gameplay itself though.
The turn based system in FF never felt it's part of the 'core' as it is in Pokemon (especially since they experiment in new battle system a lot, like FF8 and FF9 are already different for example, not to count each of their title afterwards with X, XII and XIII)
Yeah, let's not forget that it's the turn-based combat system that keeps the games alive after launch. There's a huge online community with annual championships and whatnot. If they ditch the turn-based combat, they may as well call it something else.
I felt weird.
As we know the Battle on Pokemon Anime was so Action RPG, the game version was so Traditional 1 vs 1 Turn Based RPG.
As matter of fact, i felt quite bored with the Same cores in Pokemon games (Same Turn Based Battles over and over again).
I really need some Oasis by change the Battle System into like FF XII or Action RPG like Kingdom Hearts / Monster Hunter. And for Beginner, when you choose any Commands, the Characters / Opponents will be Freeze, like FF XII.
I guess Easy Action RPG can be implemented on Pokemon games from Fantasy Life, which also use that Battle System. I believe Kids can be taught to adapt with Action RPG that still easy enough for them to understand.

Whilst core elements of a game should be nurtured, we can’t remain permanently shackled to a specific game design for every title in a series. I haven’t played a Pokemon game since Diamond (and never finished it). Unlikely to buy anymore but would jump at one with greater freedom and a more dynamic battle system with greater control or real time elements (like a trainer giving orders based on 4 moves and 4 battle styles).
Yeah, but at the same time I feel like ignoring them when those are pretty much their most robust (and like... being improved and added upon in 8 generations) are even worse.
I don't mind having a more Action-y title or whatever, as long as it stays as a spin off. Not the main title.
@Anti-Matter Also by nature Anime must ends up as actions, it's pretty much like movies.
I'll give Persona for example, they can fire off moves at will and be smart about things but in game? No, they don't do it that way. They still stick to the core of the gameplay, turn based.
They could cut out half of the text boxes in battles and they'd instantly become more fluid...
Having the likes of 'Critical Hit', 'Poisoned', 'Paralysed' etc just flash up on the screen - instead of pausing the action each and every time just to have a needless text box pop up (which you have to push a button to confirm you've read) - would help the battle system feel a bit less clunky and a bit more 'action' orientated...it wouldn't need (and shouldn't have) a radical overhaul, but a bit of modernising here and there wouldn't hurt!
