@PokeMario Could work, the 20th anniversary of Pokemon Red and Blue in the US is in September (Mario Maker was only a September release because of the 30th anniversary of SMB). Smash over the summer, Pokemon in September and then Nintendo may shut down the 3DS/Wii U online servers (only the multiplayer servers, eshop stays intact).
In other news, both BotW and ARMS have new updates.
So we might need to wait another 8 months to back up our saves. Brilliant!
The fact that an 11 month old portable console has no way whatsoever to protect save files really is beyond belief.
As for the online date, it looks like that website that reported it was delayed until Autumn after spotting an update on the Nintendo Italia site was correct.
@DarthNocturnal €20 for something that's not worth €20 in any way, shape or form is still overpriced. A reminder that all of Nintendo's games use a P2P network (and you've already paid for that through your network provider). I dunno what the €20 are going to do, but dedicated servers are pointless for their games, and I don't see Nintendo updating their games to support that either.
The only reason people are fine with it, is because it's not €60 like it is on PS4 and Xbox One... That doesn't mean it's a good deal.

It isn't like the others are using their sub money for game servers. So $20 for nothing, is better than $60 for nothing!
@Therad I'd still rather have the option to opt-out of "free" games, but so far the $60 on other systems looks better value if you care about the games. Again - rather not pay and not get the games. Switch is asking $20 for decades old games. PS4/Xbox is asking $60 for current/this gen games.
@MisterPi Given the infrastructure Nintendo has setup for the Switch regarding the multiplayer, I am not too confident they ever had plans to do much more than is already in place. If they are only asking $20 instead of the $60 the others are, that suggests it's going to be bare bones.

What are the others giving you for $60?
"Free" games each month that are worth more than $60 (whether you like/want them is irrelevent - they are offered), plus a full online infrastructure, with integrated voicechat without the need for a phone connection. :/

Not just that but it has a proper friends management system that makes inviting friends into online games easy without each developer having to create their own way of doing so. They also give you additonal discounts on digital games
@ToiletDuck - The "Free" games are just that. Free (as long as you pay for the service). You really are paying for the infrastructure. So therefore, the games are an added value incentive. If you want the infrastructure (ie to play online, it's a price you have to pay). If you get something else too, that's a bonus, whether you want them or not. You are looking at the "free" games as the reason to buy the service. That is not the right way to look at it.
Go shopping in your local supermarket and you also get similar incentives, whether you want them or not eg "Buy 1 get one free" - you only came in for that one product, but as they are also giving something away for free, you're not going to leave it on the shelf.
XBox Live never used to give away free games, but the price was still $60; people who want the service (online play or "free" games) have to pay.
