With the news Rocket League has now sold 40 million, I thought that surely must make it one of the highest selling games of all time. Right enough, it is.
1.Tetris - 170m
2.Minecraft - 122m
3.Grand Theft Auto V - 85m
4.Wii Sports - 82.8m
5.Super Mario Bros - 40.2m
6.Rocket League - 40m
Every chance it's already overtaken SMB.
That is super impressive for an indie game regardless, but I have a feeling those Super Mario Bros sales don't include multiple versions the same way GTAV or Minecraft does.
But regardless, 40 million is still well above what I was expecting, free download or not. I knew Nintendo getting it and treating it like a big deal was a smart decision but wow...
@NaviAndMii I feel confident in saying it's one of the best games I've ever played. When I first read about it over at Push Square I knew it was a game I'd love and at one point I considered buying a PS4 for it. I finally got a chance to play it briefly on my nephews Xbox One and I don't think I even touched the ball once. I got pumped something like 10v0. That still didn't put me off it. I downloaded it as soon as it hit the Eshop and have since put over 100 hours into it. Even customising the cars is brilliant. Last week I spent around £15 on new cars.Really looking forward to seeing how the game grows over the months and years.
@Harmonie all i read was "blah blah blah I have no valid complaints about the Switch I just cry"
Ok, I understand some people dont have a lot of money.. but you are seriously complaining about a $20 annual fee.... and a friend system that is likely going to be improved.... and not getting a discount on a new game... and because of things like this the Switch sucks.....
@DarthNocturnal You are correct that it's not a 1:1 situation, but Nintendo did screw up. And it's funny because I'm much more bothered by this situation than I am the 3DS. I wasn't even peeved with the 3DS price drop.
I thought that Nintendo did have a way of registering purchases both physical and digital. However, I suppose I never bought a physical Wii U game past Super Mario 3D World because I wanted them the day they came out and could never find them. However, Nintendo has always had ways of registering games, like Club Nintendo. I know Club Nintendo is no longer a thing, but that doesn't mean the title wasn't registered. Correct me if I'm wrong.
@Inertiacreep You could have tried to have given me a reasonable response like DarthNocturnal, who actually made points, you know?
$20 annual fee for an online service that has always been mediocre? You say that Nintendo is "likely" to improve it. You could be right, you could have Nintendo statements to back this up that I'm not aware of, but instead you just chose to be dismissive with no foundation. Right now I have no reason to believe that Nintendo is improving their online services. If there is actual evidence for this, I'd like to see it. However, from what I've seen it's just speculation, it's just hope. Let me tell you, when a company that has always seen complaints about their online service suddenly decides to start charging, it is up to them to prove that the online system is going to be improved before they start charging. Regressing from the usernames of the Wii U/Nintendo Network service back to Friend Codes is not helping. Again, IF you have actual statements from Nintendo saying this specifically will be improved, do post them. Otherwise, you are just posting YOUR opinions, which are no more or less valid than mine. (and please don't bring up the NES/SNES classic title benefits, that is not really an improvement to the Nintendo online services)
By the way, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is not a new game. It is a port of a Wii U game with added Splatoon content and a battle mode. I already paid for Mario Kart 8 on the Wii U. A discount is not too much to ask. I say this with the knowledge that Nintendo waits forever to drop prices on titles, and by the time I feel that it's reasonable to purchase Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, it won't be active anymore and I won't even be able to play with the friends that I want to play with right now. But do you really think I should have to go spend $60 for a game I already spent $60 on, from a system that didn't do well because of Nintendo's mistakes? This is on them.
I don't think that the Switch sucks. I just think that it is a system that has quite a few of the flaws that recent Nintendo systems have had. The system is underwhelming given the massive amount of hype that surrounds it.
@Harmonie If it's anything like PS+ or Xbox Live, they'll charge you for the monthly games instead. Because the online itself costs next to nothing to keep up and running. All of Nintendo's servers are peer-to-peer anyway, they don't have any dedicated servers for their games at the moment. Worst case scenario, nothing changes, and they charge you for no improvement at all.
@Harmonie
You're welcome to all of those opinions and more. But from what I'm reading, you're getting dangerously close to the whole "my opinions are facts" sort of statements. Like when you say it was Nintendo's "mistake" to put out a game like MK8 Deluxe, asking you to spend 60 bucks on a game you already owned
(and to be clear, there are WAY more differences between Deluxe and original that you failed to mention or perhaps are simply ignorant of such as: not only improved graphics but many new added effects on the tracks, an improved boost system, and an improved item system; online play also offers a new conveniences like changing your loadout without having to back out of the entire lobby),
you are speaking from a comparatively small viewpoint. Way more people did NOT own a Wii U than did. So you need to own that. You are speaking from a very particular viewpoint (and I'm one of you, as well - I owned a Wii U) that the majority of gamers do not have. So that means that many Switch owners, possibly even most, do NOT view MK Deluxe as a "mistake" or something they already owned because they never had the chance to experience it in the first place. It makes business sense for Nintendo to target these people. Soon enough the Switch is going to sell more in its first year or so than the Wii U did in its entire lifespan.
Now, that doesn't make you "wrong" or anything. Like I said, you're welcome to feel that way. But my impression from reading your posts is that you're not really giving a fair shake to a lot of your points, the MK8 example I showed above being just one of them. And I think that may rub some people the wrong way, that's all.
In my opinion, the Switch is fantastic and has allowed me to get a bit more gaming back into my life with its dual nature. And I'm not going to freak about the online stuff until we hear anything solid. Like my old friend used to say, "Worrying is like chewing bubble gum in a rocking chair. It gives you something to do, but doesn't get you anywhere."
@YummyHappyPills Love it! When will these numbnuts that call themselves journalists ever learn. NEVER rule out Nintendo.
Really like the look of The Escapists 2.I hadn't really paid much attention to it when it was revealed. I'm a little concerned it won't be so good in single player though. I've read some user reviews of the Steam version saying there's too much to do in single player making it really difficult. There is an online mode though so that may help. Anyone played it elsewhere?
I only say it's most likely the latter because the 3DS has had lots of sizzle reels promoting Selects games, heck the main 2DS XL had has loads of games highlighted, ALBW included.
These are quotes specifically for ALBW. Something with that game specifically is going on.
Now Playing: Mario & Luigi Brothership, Sonic x Shadow Generations
Now Streaming: The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom
An HD Link Between Worlds would be superb. I've never played the game. Maybe a 2D Zelda remaster and a brand new 2D Mario is what we'll get this year. I'd be well happy with that. Too soon or good timing?
@YummyHappyPills All those sites have one thing in common, they just regurgitate what the other is publishing, each trying to outdo their ever more salacious articles. Some of the Forbes commentators/articles are downright atrocious.
Just to speculate, wasn't there a team that was looking of hire for another "legend" or something from the Zelda remake devs? Would certainly fit into the new game rumors
