@Grumblevolcano Themes are a must. And, considering we already have two selectable themes, I'd be surprised if more weren't added later on.
I've spent a ridiculous amount of money on themes for my 3DS. I think I'm done, though: the Zelda 30th anniversary theme is wonderful, and I don't see myself changing it again.
Currently Playing: Metroid Prime 4: Beyond (NS2); Corpse Factory (PC)
@Ralizah I also spent a lot on themes (my favourite one was the Hyrule Warriors one) but I reached a point early this year where the themes were slowing down the OS too much so I returned to a basic blue one.
@Peek-a-boo
Go for it man! People love the Switch. And it complements PS4 well. Even if you just use it some of the time you're going to get more than your moneys worth. Too many good games on the system.
@EvilLucario
Right. And, as long as the game is great, I'm all for it. The Zelda DLC was excellent, and as much as I'm loving Xenoblade 2 (one of the best video games I've ever played, top 10 for sure) I can't wait to see what it brings as well. Splatoon 2 and ARMS got like 50% more content for free... which is pretty awesome.

@Ralizah I got a New 3DS XL at launch, maybe it was to do with microSD card speeds. I admit I didn't really pay attention to that kind of stuff until Switch.
I'm not expecting any more MK8D dlc. Nintendo have been trotting out this line about leveraging dlc for a couple of years now, and when they started doing so, we all rubbed our hands saying "Ooh, goodie, more MK8 dlc" and it never came, even after that 'Good things come to those who wait' tweet.
You guys had me at blood and semen.
What better way to celebrate than firing something out of the pipe?
I'm not expecting any DLC for MK8D either, it was just a good way of filling out the release schedule. It fixed the main issue that people had with the original and had all of the old content for those that skipped the Wii U.
But with that said I'm not sure about MK9, would it come to the Switch? It would certainly sell well but I don't know how they would make it different from it's predecessors. Each game has added a new mechanic or feature which has set it apart from the others but what could they add?
Nintendo will want to keep up what it has been doing by reinventing their franchises but how can they change a kart racer? All I could think of is going all the way with the "Nintendo Kart" idea that they've been playing around with in MK8/D, but that could divide the classic fans...
@gcunit I think there were some good reasons for not releasing additional DLC for MK8 on the Wii U.
1. It allowed Nintendo time to assess the statistics (sales & usage) before committing to developing new content.
2. Wii U engagement was probably falling. Would a second wave of DLC have been as successful when fewer people were still playing the base game?
3. However many copies it sold the MK DLC was certainly a successful means of promoting the base game. But Wii U sales had died and MK8 had just about the highest non-pack-in attach rate ever. Who else would have bought MK8?
Had the Wii U install base grown significantly after the DLC then a second round to remind new console owners that MK8 existed might have made more sense.
4. They knew by the time of the DLC launch that they were going to be doing a port and would have to roll in the existing DLC. So theyâd effectively have ended up giving it away for free.
...
None of those reasons should apply to Switch and I can see more DLC for MK - it makes perfect sense to me that theyâd plan for it. But then Nintendo is very hard to predict so who knows...
@StuTwo Ever since day one I've been a firm believer that what you get in the package for MK8 Deluxe is it, albeit some minor tweaking in patches. Nintendo made the port for Switch as a means to both fill out the library early on while giving people a reason to adopt the system early on with another massive franchise.
Whether or not a new entry is currently being made, it's Nintendo so whom knows what the team will work on next. But considering how quick we heard about DLC for other Nintendo games on the Switch, and the fact it's been over six months since MK8 Deluxe launched and still nothing has been announced, it should tell you Nintendo's stance on the game. It's done it's job.

The existence of MK8D should hopefully make a MK9 even better with more worthwhile additions, because I don't think simply making a Mario Kart with just new characters and stages cuts it as a new mainline Mario Kart.
I do think Mission Mode from MKDS is a great idea though, and that could perhaps add some single-player content that Mario Kart could really do with.
That said though... in terms of Mario Kart, it really seems like it's just more fitting to release that content as DLC for MK8D, though that would take away from the "Deluxe" moniker I guess.

I run a YouTube/Twitch channel for fun. Check me out if you want to!
Please let me know before you send me a FC request, thanks.

If you had asked the same question before MK8 was revealed I doubt anyone would have said "anti-gravity", or before MK7 "gliding and underwater sections". Perhaps gliding would have come up but I doubt anyone would have thought of racing underwater. I'm sure Nintendo will think of something to differentiate it from previous entries. I do think they will go all out in adding more characters from other series but it'll still be called Mario Kart as the brands too valuable to risk changing it. Will that be enough to separate it from the rest though? I think there has to be something more to it than that.
I think they will take the Windows approach and skip MK9 and go straight to MK10.9 is an unlucky number in Japan, it's pronounced as 'Ku' which sounds the same as their word for 'agony, suffering, torture'. The fact we've had MK8D kind of gives them an excuse to anyway. Plus Mario Kart 10 just sounds better.
Will it be on Switch though? I don't think so unless it releases Xmas 2018 or early 2019 which is highly doubtful. I just can't see them releasing a new Kart into the console's 3rd year but who knows. If the Switch Pro comes to be and it looks like the Switch is in for a long healthy life, it's certainly possible.
@Grumblevolcano I'd say Odyssey DLC is inevitable. I think they will take the Super Luigi approach with it and make it extra challenging. They could re-use the same worlds but instead of just collecting more moons, have it be more level based like Galaxy 2.
Odyssey's world's with Galaxy 2's structure and Super Luigi's extra challenge? That would be incredible.
@OorWullie I'll agree that I didn't see anti-gravity before MK8, but gliding and underwater sections always seemed likely to me. Maybe it was just because I used to play Diddy Kong Racing DS when I was younger
Mario Kart 10 would sound good actually, or does X sound better? MK8D and that VR game in Japan = 1 main installment? Probably not...
@Grumblevolcano I thought Odyssey was going to get DLC for a while now, but a lot of it could be saved for a sequel like the Galaxy games. There are a few traditional Mario world themes left to add as kingdoms but DLC always opens the door for crossover content.
Isle Delfino has shown up in the background of Odyssey's map so that could work as a large update or more likely DLC summer 2018. Maybe it could release just after E3 to hype people up for the GameCube VC, which would include Sunshine? There could be a branch on the world map that has a large side story with Bowser Junior trying to get married himself!
There might be a remake each of the areas that let us see how the island has changed. They could also change the moons back to shines and adjust areas to suit Cappy. Maybe a Blooper in Ricco Harbour or a Boo in Sirena beach? I'll stop myself before I get any further into "The terrible and very unrealistic speculation zone", my mind tends to make a lot of ideas
@Kimyonaakuma I too was thinking for awhile about Mario Odyssey DLC but no info made me start to doubt it until the general DLC comments made recently. Now I'm thinking they're just saving the announcements for early 2018 to give other games a chance. Like Fire Emblem Warriors, DOOM, Skyrim, Xenoblade 2, various indie games, etc.
@Kimyonaakuma I used to play Diddy Kong Racing too but on the 64, loved that game. Its water sections were on the surface though. Surface water racing seemed like an inevitable addition to future Mario Kart's but underwater? I'm not sure there has ever been an underwater racing game. That said, it didn't really add anything to the racing anyway,
