@NaviAndMii christmas is a major romantic and sales holiday in Japan. They love Santa like the rest of us. For those hoping for religious reverence...I think like 1percent of Japan is christian...so yeah good luck with that. 3 of my closest Japanese (as in Native Japanese and moved to the US) buddies are christian but there is still a very obvious buddhist influence to all of them because that is how they were raised. Sorta like how I'm an atheist and I still crack religious in-jokes because I was raised southern baptist.

@JaxonH It is THQ so I'm cautiously optimistic. With them we will get the game 2 years late.

@Ryu_Niiyama I still find it funny in a delightful sort of way that Japan gets so into Christmas. I believe S. Korea does now, too. I imagine in both cases it was the influence of heavy US presence (occupation in Japan's case, and joint war/DMZ defense in Korea's) in the 50's & 60's that got them to get attached to the holiday.

Similarly I find it fun that Nintendo was the exclusive playing card producer for the Provisional Government for US occupying forces, a contract Struck by Yamauchi himself. So for the youngsters on the forums, even your great grandfather probably played Nintendo....albeit a little differently

@NEStalgia Well its a fun holiday and winter solstice is still important in a lot of cultures (your US occupation speculation is correct though) and its close enough to christmas to get lumped into the whole thing. Besides christmas is a mixture of actual christian/judeo/islamic themes, themes not from those religions (I refuse to call a religion pagan...your made up deity is as valid as somebody elses imo), and commercialism so if you look at it that way its not THAT farfetched. Like I said I'm an atheist and I still celebrate with my family as a family and peaceful holiday (I let them go to church alone....I've done my time) so I get why other cultures would adopt it as well. Its like other countries adopting black friday imo. No reason to do so....but they do it because the US makes a big deal out of it.

Anyhoo, I am wondering if this could be the start of a wonderful RTS and Simulation relationship with the switch. Plus with the gyro aiming you sorta have a mouse...or at least a wii pointer.

@Ryu_Niiyama I really thought WiiU would be picked up as the RTS console actually. The large touch screen really made sense for it.....alas....

I think RTS would fit Metroid better and no worries about massive backlash as Samus Returns and Prime 4 exist unlike when Federation Force was announced and the franchise's future was unknown.

Pikmin is their resident RTS game, as unique as it is.

No stylus this time for touchscreen play though. So it would have to be analog and motion. And you could use motion for the TV or tabletop.

And if we don't get DKC Tropical Freeze ported it'll be a tragic disappointment.

A switch port of XCX with text that didn't give me migraines would be really nice.

Bayonetta 2 was the main Wii U port that I wanted so I'm happy.

Would like to see Tropical Freeze and Tokyo Mirage Sessions get ports though.

@NEStalgia Agreed. I had such high hopes for the WiiU I still think it is a powerful concept that the Switch has not exactly usurped. However the support follows the money which follows the market. Sigh.

I was hoping a lot of Wii U games would get ported to Switch just based on the concept of play anywhere. These were my most wanted out of the less obvious games to port:

• XCX
• TMS#FE
• Bayonetta 1+2
• Wonderful 101
• Super Mario 3D World + Treasure Tracker

I say 3D World being a less obvious one because we have the 3D Mario everyone seemed to want back in the Wii U era instead of 3D World (Odyssey returning back to the 64/Sunshine formula).

3D World, as I've said before, is my single most desired Wii U port. It's PERFECT for the hardware.

Well, some things would have to be tweaked like the microphone blowing and touch-based levels. I'm sure Nintendo can find some way to get around that though.

Just another reason why owning a game physically is better than digital. I'd say the license has expired. I see that Ubisoft have the Winter Olympic license for Steep, I don't know if they have it exclusively. And who has it for the Summer Olympics? You'd imagine with them being held in Japan that Nintendo and SEGA would want it now more than ever. Although I haven't looked at the trend in sales.

Guys, little question about Parental Control apps for Nintendo Switch.
I want to restrict my Switch with No Mature games allowed. How do i config my Switch to allow playing games with Lv. 5 Restriction (Maximum age rating until Teen / CERO B / PEGI 12) ?
How do i use Parental Control from App Store for my Switch ?

@SLIGEACH_EIRE As I expected, if there was a 2018 game coming, we would know by now. Sadly, or not if that's your view, the license has clear expired as Steep is now listed as the "Official game of the Olympics".

@Anti-Matter You go into your Switch settings and start the process to "Set up Parental Controls". Follow the instructions. Simple stuff.

I'm not so sure Steep is the reason it expired as the 2014 Sochi game was removed from the eshop before the 2016 Rio game even came out. I think it's probably other licensing issues.

Speaking of Steep though, what happened to the Switch version? It feels like we've known nothing for a long time, last thing I remember was rumours about its cancellation being denied.

@Grumblevolcano When the Steep DLC has "Official Game of the Winter Olympics" tagged to it, you know we aren't getting another Mario & Sonic.

As for Steep on Switch? Meh. I'm gonna just tag in to the rest of the internet and say "It's because Nintendo's online still sucks".

Either that or they couldn't simulate all that snow physics correctly without the system imploding, so they canned it, because people don't want games where the intent and vision has been compromised, and it's not like Steep had much going for it beyond "Oooh pretty snow."
