They're clearly after the profit. The question is why even bother putting the game on a 8GB cartridge? Why don't they buy a small 1GB cartridge or even better, a 1MB cartridge with just the installer on it?
Because there's always a price floor with these sort of things. It wouldn't surprise me if the smallest Switch cartridge worth making was something like 2GB. It also wouldn't surprise me if the cost gap between a 2GB and 8GB cartridge was so small that it's not really a factor.
With that said when a game has a mandatory 20GB+ download? I don't know why the physical release even exists at that point. They're basically just selling you a code in a box at that point so why not just do that? If this is entirely a cost saving thing give up on the cartridge entirely and just throw a code in the box.

@Qwertyninty From what I've read one of the moderators has been accused of sexual harassment and now all the others have jumped ship leaving the whole site to collapse in on itself. No loss.

I must admit that I occasionally popped onto NeoGAF for their excellent LEGO thread and the friendly community within, as well as the tennis discussion. It was actually quite an exciting place to be during the lead up to E3, even though all three companies event/showcase was a bit of a damp squib this year.
I will also miss those important threads, such as the one with the outrage about Switch icons for certain indie games!
I am sad to see the community and all those (positive) threads reduced to rubble however, given light of the recent news about sexual harassment across all forms of entertainment media, it was absolutely the right thing to do.
Nobody should be supporting a place - no matter how popular or influential it is (or was) - whereby the owner has a history of sexually harassing other people. I thoroughly hope he pays a high price for what he has done.

Retail presence. Most people still buy their games from actual physical shops (or supermarkets) and will never, never buy anything digital. In many cases they won't even have registered for the eshop.
It's crazy because they buy everything digitally on their phones.
It's something that affects some games more than others. I'd guess a high proportion of 'blockbuster' AAA games and sports games are sold in supermarkets or other non specialist outlets. So the code in a box is essential.
There's one big advantage to the consumer though - you can share or sell the 'cartridge with big download' but you can't share or resell the code in a box.
@FragRed I pulled up news on it and it says it is the owner. Either way I saw the writing on the wall long ago. I requested my account be deleted I didn't respect the site or the people who moderated for it. We will see how this plays out.
I sometimes lurked though Neogaf to check the leaks and the last minute info - like tomorrow’s Atlus announcement on SMT. Want to see on what platforms the game will be.
It had a lot of good users, but also many bad users too. Shame to see it gone, but I won’t support a site whose owner is accused of sexual harassment.
A similar story about Naughty Dog surfaced a few days ago. It could be me, but I don't understand the approach, take it to court, not the internet. False accusations happen too. I always like to think that anyone's innocent until proven otherwise, but this is the internet, and people are eager to grab their pitchforks and point fingers at anyone, even though nobody knows the entire story. I never cared about NeoGAF, and I don't know the moderator in question, so I'll continue to not care about any of this.
@Octane This was the site owner, and there were arrests (Like actual charges) on some staff for underage inappropriate materials in July.
And as it turns out the owner did, before everything went to hell, post something. Basically saying the women want it, so yeah, lets say "Innocent" about this guy who also in 2012, said the same things.

@BLP_Software It's not my job to judge. I don't even know half the story. All I'm saying is that court exists for a reason. Take it to a real judge, not the internet.
Well, at least it was just a developer at Naughty Dog, and not the owner. It would be a major blow to the gaming industry if they went down. They're one of the relatively few major studios that doesn't develop games like Destiny or Star Wars Battlefront.
