@Spoony_Tech Yeah, that's a fair shout - I can't really think of a multiplayer title that'd be more deserving...PUBG certainly deserves recognition - but, as far as the major gongs go, I feel like the gaming industry is going to want to acknowledge that one game that they all (pretty much) unanimously drizzled with 10's at the start of the year!

I would never count Mario out. Sometimes what's fresh on everyone's minds wins out over what came out months ago. Plus I can see Mario getting just as many perfect scores and dare I say even more perfect scores. Remember, when Zelda came out we didn't know all that much about Odyssey. Now with what we know I can say being a Zelda fan the most I can't see anything wrong with Mario winning. Of course something still might sneak in and take this years prize.

I dont think Nintendo will win anything at the Game Awards this year not even considering GOTY. Hell we dont even know if Switch games will be subjected to the wider gaming media categorising of "Best handheld/mobile game" they seem to be tagged with anyway.

@BLP_Software So by that logic they could win all the awards not PC related. 😝

Even if that's the case no one ever said a handheld game can't win GotY. A great game is a great game no matter what the system.

Oh and the only people using that term are 3rd parties.

@Spoony_Tech I dunno. MK8D was labelled the best handheld Mario Kart by many. Not best Mario Kart. Best Handheld Mario Kart.

Face it, the world sees its merots entirely on portability. It depends what the game awards think.

But I also seriously doubt Zelda will win GOTY. Horizon exists. Persona 5 exists. PUBG exists. Call of Duty, Assassins Creed, Forza, the list of bigger and more universally appreciated games spans other consoles far more.

Realistically Zelda will win best Adventure game or something. A genre category. Maybe Mario+Rabbids in RPGs if we are lucky to see it nominated.

But GOTY? That always flies elsewhere. Dont get your hopes up.

@BLP_Software That's a poor choice of a game considering it was also a console game the generation before which many said it was the best Mario Kart ever. Of course all these games could be considered the best handheld version because the Switch is indeed a handheld but not only is it that.

I'm not getting my hopes up as I know Nintendo is always considered second when it comes to GotY awards when the other consoles are involved. Did anybody give Splatoon a shot at multiplayer game of the year? It won and deservingly so.

@Spoony_Tech Splatoon 2 sure as hell aint getting multiplayer this year. Not with PUBG and Overwatch still running around.

And need I remind you last year DLC for Witcher 3 won awards?

@BLP_Software You're being overly pessimistic. Zelda got universal praise and some are considering it one of the best games ever made. It's absolutely a frontrunner for GOTY.

Set expectations at rock bottom, then no matter what youll come away feeling good.

@BLP_Software Zelda already got a GOTY award at the TGS. With Persona 5 being released. COD,Forza and Assassins creed hasn't won an award in years! Also you can't other exclusives from different consoles. Cause Gears 4 and Halo 5 never won anything. Only exclusive that released from another console was Uncharted 4 and that was last year.

For me, I think it'll probably be between BOTW and SMO for GOTY. I'd never even heard of PUBG before.

That NBA 2K18 boxart is terrible, ruined by the writing on the top and MicroSD card sticker. I'd seen an earlier version, but geez. I'm not liking how some games don't fit fully on a cartridge or in some cases not at all(Resident Evil: Revelations 2).

Mario GOTY? Really? Might as well give it to yooka laylee...

And no one even mentioning Xenoblade which is going to be better than anything we've seen on the switch yet.....

Xenoblade has never fully gotten the love or attention it deserves. It's a bit niche to win the major awards.

I thought Xenoblade X was a huge step back from Chronicles in many ways. I absolutely loved Chronicles, when I bought it I was unsure if it was the kind of game I'd like but it turned out to be one of the best and most memorable I've ever played. X on the other hand bored me to tears if I'm being honest. Twice I gave it a good go, sinking many hours into it but I just couldn't motivate myself to keep going. It was honestly one of my most disappointing gaming experiences ever as I was so hyped for it ever since it's reveal. If Switch was getting a direct sequel to X I doubt I would even bother with it but since it's a sequel to the original I still have faith it'll be great and I'll certainly be buying it day one. Any hype I should have though just isn't there.

As for Mario Odyssey winning GOTY, I feel confident in saying it'll be one of the highest reviewed games of all time.

@SLIGEACH_EIRE doesn't change the fact mario is a trash game as far as GOTY goes and people in this forum are seemingly more likely to bring up golf story as GOTY before talking about Xenoblade.
