@JaxonH
I have two distinct memories of when I was super into theorising about what the next Nintendo console should be. Both were during the Wii/DS era. For the "Wii HD" I wanted a fairly low powered console that used cartridges, a "good enough" console but moving forward by finally ditching optical media. Why? Because a machine sitting under my TV should load fast and not make a noise. For the "DS 2" I wanted a larger, higher resolution 16:9 aspect ratio top screen and better visuals. Because why not have games like Twilight Princess and Smash Bros on a portable
When the Wii U and 3DS came out and they answered most of those questions just not all at once. I got my fairly high end (semi) portable system that as a home console was "good enough". But still used optical media. And I also got my higher resolution, 16:9 aspect ratio proper portable console but just not with enough of a jump in resolution to keep me happy for very long. If only Nintendo had released the Vita instead of the 3DS.
The Switch? It's the portable console and the home console I've been wanting Nintendo to release for almost a decade all in one machine. It's a Vita with games and a Wii U without the clunky execution. I don't understand how some people didn't immediately understand the appeal.

Very nicely put. I can get why some don't see the appeal i.e. if they don't want a portable (though being a Nintendo gamer that in itself is baffling) but the Switch is such a good idea, executed beautifully, I can't believe how well they've nailed it. I thought their last two Consoles were really poor so it's a shock to me how they've got it so right this time.
@electrolite77
I think ultimately the Wii U was a good idea for a console with bad timing. If it had come out a bit earlier the novelty of "tablet gaming" and "Nintendo games in HD" would have counted for more. If it had come out a bit later it could have had better tech to make the concept more appealing. With improved wireless or going all in with a fully portable system like the Switch.
Too late to be appealing without the core concept, too early for the concept to be fully formed.

I think you'll find a lot of nodding heads here.
To be fair there are, as @electrolite77 noted, plenty of people who claim not to care about portability at all. To those people the Switch is an underpowered home console with a few quirks. They are prominent online but a minority in the market at large...
...and many of them who do eventually buy a Switch despite saying "I'll only ever use it docked" will end up using it un-docked on occasion and loving it. Once you have that flexibility and you encounter - even irregularly - circumstances in which it's useful it is revelatory.
What impresses me most about the Switch though is it's ability to be marketed very effectively to a wide range of different groups. We've not seen it yet (because of the price and Nintendo's initial marketing focus) but the Switch is the perfect console for families - even more so than the Wii U (and being a great family console was one of the things that the Wii U really did very well).
Once you start seeing family cars with Switches attached to the back of the drivers seat so the kids can play Mario Kart in the back...

After playing the machine for quite some time now, I've come to take it for what it is, but it's quite hard not to get swept up in the endless handheld praise and love for that particular part.
Then again, silent majority doesn't bother posting on sites like these, and they just use it the way they do, which is to say, probably both with each moment that suits that mode best, so eh.
Just a quick question. Are you able to console share between 2 switches?
If I registered my wife's switch as mine, downloaded say Minecraft onto it, she went into her account and played, would I be able to play Minecraft on my account on my Switch?
Caught a Switch advert on channel 5 last night, and as part of the advert it showed Fifa 18 in portable mode.
There's a brand new* advert for 1-2 Switch, last night on a UK channel, with London taxi drivers (rather than the original American stylee family bbq one). It's obviously aimed at adult blokes. It was odd to see a new ad for a game that came out 6months ago and wasn't a great seller back then. It's trying to show the multiplayer anywhere aspect of Switch, rather than the game, methinks.
The ad was new to me, I have seen loads of ads for Switch, but never seen that one.
@IceClimbers@Spoony_Tech You're both right, sort of. Note the difference between "user accounts" and "Nintendo Account."
Multiple user accounts can be made on a Switch, where only one Nintendo Account can be linked to a Switch. While purchases are linked to your Nintendo Account, there's no every-day application where that comes up, and to better answer @SuperJoon's question, the purchase of a game on a console allows you to play it on all user accounts on that system, but not on any other system.
@StuTwo Nicely said. I think most of the people that complain online about not needing portable, are the people that have waaaay too much extra time and generally haven't much to do...thus they're the people spending disproportionate amounts of time complaining online about being given options that they don't want.
@Hieronymus-E About 50/50. It's disproportionate by season, almost exclusively handheld when the weather is nice, but then will be almost exclusively docked when the weather turns cold, but with periodic handheld play....I snagged a second Switch to use the way I use my 3DS, with a different game in the second unit to pick up and play handheld in between other stuff while I leave my main game suspended where I was in the lead unit. Currently I'm chipping away at rayman a level at a time (skipped on WiiU), in handheld, while keeping Splatton & Pokken locked & loaded in the main unit that's going handheld/docked 50/50. This system is so freaking perfect for my use.
If every game that's said to be coming out this week actually does so, then it's gonna be a pretty packed week for Switch owners with a whopping 14 titles due out between Wednesday and Friday!
Arcade Archives: Mario Bros. (out Wednesday)
Astro Bears Party
Binaries
Brave Dungeon + Dark Witch's Story: Combat
Butcher
Conga Master Party!
Deemo
FIFA 18 (out Friday, also at retail)
Golf Story
Inversus Deluxe
One Piece: Unlimited World Red - Deluxe Edition (out Friday, also at retail)

Actually that's not true.
You can access both your Nintendo account and games on any Nintendo Switch. I have 2 Switches. I simply tied my Nintendo Account to my second Switch, and any time I want I go to the eShop of Switch #1 and click "Deactivate" then on Switch #2 I simply launch the eShop and it automatically activates as the active console. All my games are accessible and playable. However, I cannot access my digital games on Switch #1 so long as Switch #2 is the active console. Whenever I want to switch back, I repeat the process in reverse. I click "Deactivate" in the eShop of Switch #2, then launch the eShop of Switch #1 to activate it.
