@Nicolaison The free for longer part is great but having to wait for possibly a year or more after the consoles launch for basic services like lobbies and voice chat is pretty bad.If VC is still a good way off yet then I assume that means the option to upgrade our Wii U/3DS VC titles will be as well.If that will even be an option.

I don't actually care about voice chat myself,if it wasn't there at all I wouldn't miss it.I did hope for a much improved online experience over Wii U though. In time it will be but not for a good while yet.

On a side note it's technically $25 for Pokemon players if you account for the yearly $5 Bank fee.

Depends on how they use Pokemon Bank I guess. Maybe some people use it all the time but I've only used it as a way to mass-transfer legacy Pokemon when a new generation of games comes around. Which I am yet to do for Moon. If/when Stars comes along I'll do a mass-transfer of Pokemon from Y & Moon including some Pokemon from as far back as Pearl.

I'm yet to actually pay anything for Pokemon Bank.....

@KirbyTheVampire That's not so bad then I suppose.I think it's the delay to VC that's disappointing me the most,if I didn't read that then I probably wouldn't be here complaining.I was really looking forward to playing the classics with online,it's been something I've wished for since the Wii.In that article you linked it also mentions all games will be updated with mutliplayer so that's good news,I did wonder how they were going to approach it,I feared it might just be leaderboards and NES Remix-style stages instead. We also know Super Mario Bros 3 will be one of the first. So mutliplayer Mario Bros 3 then? Call me intrigued.

@OorWullie I was worried that would be the case with the multiplayer as well. I'd definitely be down for some multiplayer retro games, especially since I missed a lot of games from the NES/SNES generations.

So it's confirmed that it's an ongoing library that you have access to as long as you're subscribed.

IGN reached out to Nintendo, who comfirmed that it'll only be NES games at first. SNES games are "under consideration". Translation: "Yeah we'll add em but we need to make people go crazy over the SNES Classic for a couple months first".

No way in hell they add N64, GameCube, or GBA games to that for only $20 a year. I could see Game Boy/Game Boy Color games though.

@IceClimbers Why not N64 or GC games? Or even GBA games? They've already made some N64 and GBA titles available on VC for years, anyways. GC games I can see your point, though....

@DarthNocturnal I'm probably just jumping to conclusions. It may well indeed just be the free game service that's delayed.Since those will just be NES/SNES games that doesn't rule out Gamecube VC coming before then.

@Vee_Flames It's more profitable to sell those titles individually. They'd lose money overall if they added those to the Classic Games Selection.

Though I guess GBA titles shouldn't really be any different from SNES titles.

I hope the Classic Games Selection isn't only available when you're online, if it indeed is replacing VC. I really want to be able to play retro games outside of the house too.

On a much smaller, separate note that slipped under the radar:

@Nicolaison Given that the Switch is something you take around... I'm pretty sure you can either download any titles of your choice and play them offline or the service can be used offline (not sure how that'll work, but you never know).
It's just like ARMS. Nintendo knows we can't be expected to play ARMS with motion controls while on the go, so they HAD to include traditional controls. I'm guessing that's what we'll see here, too.

@Vee_Flames Yeah, I'm kinda torn, I'm not sure which way it'll go. .. It seems like the kind of thing you'd definitely want to DRM, or else customers could just pay for one month and download the games they want, keeping them after the month is up. But on the other hand, as you said, bringing it with you is the whole point of the system, so offline play has got to be a feature.

Of course I forget about how people can abuse the system if there's a download option. Am I just that innocent?
But yeah, good point. So the only option then is an offline service which... well, like I said earlier, I'm not sure how it can be implemented. We'll see, though. I'm still pretty sure there's a way to play games offline and on the go. Maybe.

On a side note, if they did add Game Boy/Game Boy Color titles, I'd imagine mainline Pokemon titles would be excluded. Way too much money to be made selling those games individually at a premium

@DarthNocturnal That would be amazing, but I can't see Game Freak or The Pokemon Company agreeing to that. Took them long enough just to add local wireless and Bank support for Gen 1.

Looks like Twintelle will be playable in this weekend's Testpunch due to popular demand!

Y'know, I'm not glad about this because I care that much. I mean, maybe some games I would love to consistently replay, but in 2017, most old first party games (that I don't already own in some form) is just a fun use of my time that I would make sure to take advantage of for the month it would be available, and likely not care too much about again. So at least for me, this change doesn't particularly matter.

But it does show Nintendo to be less scared that people will never buy their old games again if they actually allow you to keep them for a significant portion of time, since that is literally the only reason I can think of for why they would only allow you to play them for a month for free in the first place. So I appreciate that.

@Vee_Flames Maybe the download just has to check in to the internet every month? In such a way as to not be exploitable via changing the internal clock? Who knows?

Great news about the prize. Should be around 20 euros too. About Twintelle, well i'm glad i will not be able to play Testpunch this weekend. I can already see a lobby full of Twintelles...
