@Lethal
Hey, man, you can make whatever snarky attacks against me you want (didn't even read, to be honest - better things to do), but that doesn't change YOU were the one trying to appear witty while being oh-so ironically wrong/correct lol
@Pigeon I'm kind of mixed views on the situation. It's kind of like with Aonuma's comments about BotW's open world gameplay becoming the new norm for Zelda.
Both are a nice change but I'd want the old style to appear in future games or maybe even the BotW DLC.
I wonder what the chances are of Yoshi's Island finally appearing on VC?It's insane that Nintendo have never found a way to release it already.I know it uses the Super FX chip and there may be some legal complications but surely those can be got around. It's certainly not because of difficulties emulating it as emulators have been running it perfectly fine for years.It's a Miyamoto masterpiece yet I'd bet the vast majority of Nintendo fans have never played it,certainly ones under a certain age.It was a late release on SNES so even many older fans will have never played it.I know the GBA version is on Wii U but it's not the same.It's the equivalent of Apple Records holding onto a late Beatles record that was only released in limited quantity's on vinyl and never reissued after 1970 and the reason for them holding it back is because of some legal complications with a little record shop in another country that's long since closed.
Looking at VGChartz it sold 4.12 million on SNES and 2.91 on GBA which is pretty good I suppose.Not compared to Super Mario World it isn't though.That sold 20.61 million on SNES and 5.46 on GBA and then probably several million more on Wii / Wii U VC.I can't imagine SMW2 GBA on Wii U VC added much to it's total sales.So yeah,not enough people have played this incredible game and that needs to change.
@NEStalgia
I can't help but wonder if there won't be a significant online base using mobile hotspot.
I'm going to use it... all the time. With 3DS, I guess there were MP games but, the system was so dated I guess I never even considered investigating playing it online on the go. But with a premium experience on Switch, I was curious. And to my delight discovered basically all modern phones do hotspot, and the data usage is paltry. Solid connection, easy as tapping a single button once to turn on.
I wonder if a lot of people out there will, like me, discover how easy and practical using hotspot is from their own phone, and we don't see a surge in online gaming from people playing anywhere and everywhere.

@OorWullie I would really like to see all the fx chip games tbh. You're right and Nintendo needs to make those at the very least happen. Would really love to play Stunt Race FX and Star Fox.

If I was only ever able to have Monster Hunter and EO games in the future, I would be a happy man.
Just curious, is the Switch able to successfully play online against others with a phone hotspot? You should test that out when Mario Kart comes out. I tried connecting my Wii U to my phone hotspot as an experiment, and while it did successfully connect (as shown in Settings), I was unable to play online games like Splatoon with the phone hotspot connection.
TLDR; just because Switch can connect successfully to your phone doesn't mean it can successfully play games online with your phone's connection. But if it can (which we'll find out on April 28) ... that's a huge advantage.
@shadow-wolf
Oh, already tested. I played the entire Splatoon 2 testfire at my job in Madison. Propped it up in tabletop mode, slid the Joycons off the rails and went ham for the full hour using my Samsung Galaxy S7 hotspot through Verizon.
Entire hour of online Splatoon 2 used 0.11gb of data. Which is nothing, really. You could play 10 hours online every month while away from the house and still only use a single gigabyte.

@JaxonH Unless Nintendo make a point of informing their customers about it then it will likely only be a small minority that use it or even know about it.Sites like Nintendolife reporting it would certainly help though.
I've not lived in Europe for many years so I'm not sure what kind of packages network providers offer but here in Thailand,you can buy special data packages that give unlimited use of Youtube,Line video chat or the Thai equivalent of Netflix.Like a 2gb data package but with unlimited video streaming for example for a much lower price than an full unlimited package would cost.If I remember correctly Nintendo had some deal with a US network in the past for free 3DS wifi spots.Not really the same thing as offering special data packages but it does show it's not out of the realms of possibility for Nintendo to do it.I'm not sure why Nintendo aren't promoting that it can do it.With their 'anytime,anywhere,anyone' approach to marketing it,this would be a pretty big selling point for many.The more tools it has in its box the better.
@Spoony_Tech I've never actually played Stunt Race FX.I played Starfox not long ago though and I found it hard to play because of the framerate.I think that could do with a remaster.Either way,they need to appear somehow.
Oh wow. That's truly a game changer. And 0.11 GB for one HOUR? That's amazing. Playing online anywhere is a huge selling point. Even people with small mobile data plans (like 300 MB) could comfortably do a half hour if they so desire every once in a while. For people with data plans larger than 2 GB a month, this is a game changer for sure.
@shadow-wolf
Right! Which is the majority of people in the west nowadays.
I upped my plan from 2gb to 5gb once I discovered this, and it only cost me $5 more per month (doesn't hurt to check plans once in a while!) So even people on smaller plans might now how all the reason they need to beef it up by a couple gigs...

I think PacMan Maker could have more appeal than Mario market from the standpoint you could have competitive Head to Head matches, tournaments, and online leader boards.
I really hope that we'll get something like a Zelda Maker, that you can make dungeons with something like that, or Super Mario Maker along with the 3d world option.
I'm not convinced either of them would work anywhere near as well as Mario Maker. With PacMan I'm not sure what a user generated level could do that would make it any more interesting than just standard stages. With Zelda there isn't really such a thing as a skill based dungeon. Because of the way Zelda plays dungeons are built around secrets. Something with will mean even well meaning creators may end up creating troll levels.
The thing that makes Mario Maker work is that it has a huge array of objects and object combinations. But despite that complexity pretty much all of them communicate what they are used for fairly quickly. In most levels, even the very hard ones, you can see what you need to do on the screen almost instantly. The challenge is being able to execute.

I dunno, there's no shortage of troll levels in Mario Maker. I'd suffer them if I could get a few amazing-designed dungeons in the style of Link to the Past. -drool-
@Nintenerdguy but you're forgetting people could have PAC man running around naughty words! There's nothing funnier or more original than naughty words!!
@OorWullie the SNES version of Yoshis island is fantastic, the GBA one is slightly off. If there are legal or other reasons why it's not available then it's a game that should absolutely be faithfully remade (more so than Woolly World - which is a really good but sequel. I actually found it to be a significantly different experience - contrary to what most reviews suggested)
Yoshis Island not being available on a modern format is like not being able to buy Citizen Kain on DVD. It's such an important touchstone in game design linking the earlier twitch based arcade platformers with the optional challenge based collection platformers that have dominated since.

The difference is that Zelda is a game built around "find the key" and "pick a door". It kinda lends itself to the kind of trolling that exists in only a sub-set of Mario Maker levels. In Mario people can make challenging levels that aren't a troll. In Zelda I reckon every hard level will either be some kind of troll or an unintuitive puzzle.
I'd personally rather see an expanded Mario Maker with new game themes and level building options. Specifically Super Mario Land and slopes. And while they're at it why not add elements from other platformers. Why can't we have the barrels from Donkey Kong Country in a Mario game? IMO that would be far more interesting than Zelda or Metroid Maker.

Donkey Kong Country maker! drools
Zelda maker in ALTTP, minish cap style could be fine. But I think it would need some curation (which is also the case for mario maker)
