I would be playing this game so much if it didn't have touch controls or need to be tabletop. You can play with motion one handed with undocking only one joycon, but holding the Switch one handed gets tiring fast. I really wish they had implemented physical controls for handheld mode. Just to make handheld play a lot more comfortable and manageable.

Now that I'm a bit further into this game I'm enjoying it more. I still don't understand all the stats (or why it rewards you for not playing the game) but the battles feel a lot more satisfying now that I've got used to them.

Looking to grab this in a week or so, and I am wondering if some of you have gotten used to the controls? From what I have read from most who have played it for a bit, the controls are not as bad as they seem.

@Dogorilla
I'm feeling you. At first I thought the battle mechanics were way to basic and boring. I probably would have put it down if people didn't recommend this game so hard everywhere.
Somehow I am stuck now at the second boss (final day, week 2) and really don't know how to beat him.
Probably have to grind, because I swapped the pins around quite a bit and they have very low levels.
At first I though the game was easy, but I do not think so anymore.
It is confusing at first and my boyfriend laughs at me for maniacly hammering and swipping the Switch screen, but it is really unique and the characters and music are fun enough.
Some enemies are annoying as hell though.

Never want to come down, never want to put my feet back down on the ground.

@Super_Gravy Personally, I love the touch controls. I reckon they're the best touch controls I've ever come across, and definitely for an action game. The DS game is just different, and you'll find many people bounced off that version because of the controls. There are thousands of people who loved the DS version, and won't accept the changes made for the touch version, but if you're coming to the game for the first time, I'd say the touch controls are actually better.

@scubydo Yeah the controls work pretty well once you're used to them. They're not perfect but the game is definitely worth playing regardless.

@Tiefseemiez I agree, it's one of the most fun battle systems I've seen in an RPG. I haven't reached the end of week 2 yet (I probably should have done by now but I'm very slow at getting through games, especially RPGs) but I found the first boss pretty difficult. I definitely couldn't have got through it without the healing pin.

Played the game on the NSO Trial, got to the boss of Day 7 before I got sick of the game. The gameplay is pretty fun, but the controls are very difficult to use. You can tell this was an early DS game, the game reeks of trying to shove touch controls down your throat like other early DS games like Kirby Canvas Curse and Yoshi Touch & Go (although for the record I thought Kirby Canvas Curse worked just fine, but in Canvas Curse you didn't have to quickly dodge attacks or use specific motions to attack).

I'll probably get Neo, but I'm not sure I want to get this game once the trial ends. Touch controls/motion controls do not work well for this game and I'd rather play a game that has a more normal control scheme.

To each their own. I personally love the touch controls and didn't have much trouble.

It's a lot better than the Joy-Con controller setup IMO. If you didn't have to reset the position of the cursor so much I'd actually like using Joy-Con in this game a lot. But the lack of a sensor bar like on the Wii makes anything that uses pointer controls not ideal.

I dunno how they are on the Switch but TWEWY was a high point of DS's gimmicks, and that's one of those hills I'd die on (obvious flaws with trying to use the mic on a regular DS for anything, aside).

I wouldn't mind the touch controls as much if it were limited to attacks, it's kind of fun to use them for the attacks because they're fun gimmicks. But having to touch the screen to move around and dodge is really clunky and really makes it difficult to avoid attacks (which is why I quit at the Day 7 boss, you need to be able to quickly dodge its attacks to survive but the control scheme doesn't facilitate this). Doubly so in Handheld mode, Docked Mode seems to let you hold A and touch the screen to use an attack or hold B and touch the screen to move and dodge, but Handheld mode does not seem to have this feature so you could easily end up dodging when you want to attack and vice versa. The game desperately needed traditional Control Stick controls to move around.

I'll be honest and admit that I enjoyed playing the game docked with the pointer controls. Yeah, it was admittedly kind of clunky and definitely not as intuitive as the original DS version's controls, but I didn't think it was nearly as bad as people make it out to be. I'm also one of the people who turned on co-op and controlled both characters myself since it was the only way to replicate the feeling of controlling both in the original, and it's not TWEWY without that aspect in my mind. I never tried playing in handheld for that reason. I still had fun with my Final Remix playthrough, though I'd say the DS version is still better overall. I'm just glad it gave even a few more people a chance to play one of the best games I've ever played.

@kkslider5552000 It's one of my favourite DS games but I don't think it translates all that well to the Switch even in handheld with a touch screen. Felt a bit more clunky on the bigger screen with either fingers or stylus and losing the second screen functionality takes away a lot from the game. Still very good but more like 8/10 good rather than 10/10 good.
