Maybe this has been asked before, but all the pictures and videos of press getting their switch review kits made me wonder if the WiiU version of BOTW will be getting reviewed pre launch.

I only care because if there are significant performance issues then I can hold off for a while until I feel like getting a switch. But if it isn't too big a difference then I'll get it on WiiU when I can still use the prime discount. Anyone read anything from any reviewers if they have both versions?

Digital Foundry will have this topic covered well before release. I'd be surprised if they didn't get both copies to test prior to launch

Recently replayed it whilst on holiday and was playing a bit on the flight home. The air conditioning tricked my New 3DS into thinking I was blowing 😂 @Nicolai

I know they're not popular, but I loved both PH and ST. Even the boat and train parts. and the Temple of the Ocean King, which was the best example of how Zelda games show how much more capable you've become with the acquisition of new items. I loved completing the sidequests that unlocked new tracks to new areas, and I loved that you could see the Tower of Spirits wherever you were, and how Zelda was with you the whole adventure in ST. And the Arrow minigame in PH is the best minigame hands down. And how you could actually discover new islands in PH, as opposed to WW where there is very obviously one island per grid space. And I loved being able to draw on your map, and I don't know why that feature didn't return in WWHD.

Boy, the dungeons were disappointingly easy, though.

I'm so glad somebody said this. (I agree with all the above). I'll admit that Spirit Tracks took me a little while to warm to at first, but once I got into the game, I absolutely loved it! (it still remains a very memorable game for me). I'm in two minds about the stylus controls though. There were cool parts about it (the being able to draw on maps was definitely the bit I liked most about it) but as a gameplay control, I do still prefer proper gamepad buttons, as i find them way more responsive (rather than constantly failing to trigger certain moves when it matters most).

For example, while being able to draw a circle around link to make him do the spin attack, it was temperamental as to how often it fired. (Same with the forward roll that you use when you need to knock rupees out of trees, etc.). -It was great when it worked, but often takes several attempts to do what it is supposed to.

But as games themselves, both Spirit Tracks and Phantom Hourglass I actually loved them to bits!! The stories were great, the bosses were fun, there were tonnes of really good sidequests, and the characters were all very endearing. (I would even go as far as saying that Toon Link is my all time favorite version of Link aswell, which is also one of the many reasons why I love WindWaker so much).

But it wasn't just Link that was great in those games, all the other characters too had really interesting personalities. (Many of them using a playfully sarcastic humor in a way that while all Zelda games have to certain extent, those three games all did this exceptionally well. -Linebeck being a great example), but there were plenty of other characters too that I couldn't help but love hearing all the funny things they would often come out with. (the bridge guy, the anouki tribe, and countless others...)

A QUESTION FOR ALL OF YOU...
Besides the obvious main characters that everyone always talks about, which are your most memorable of the lesser known characters that you loved most? (this can be from any Zelda game. -Think of characters that are either villagers or people from side-quests, etc., rather than the main characters). Which of the things they either say or do have always stuck with you as being some of your personal favorite funniest moments?

Some of my favourites minor/side characters include (Warning spoilers! Duh! XD)-

Agitha from TP: I love her design and she was just so creepy and weird. I always found it both funny and terrifying when you didn't give any bugs to her (even though you had some) and you left her house and then she would whisper "I know you have bugs..."

Malo from TP: A small, intelligent child who was a business man at heart and was ruthless when judging you. I love the unamused look he had on his face, and the fact that he eventually began entire business says enough. Also he blessed us with his malo mart song! XD

King Bulblin from TP: It was cool to have a somewhat rival throughout the game. He makes a big impression at the beginning of the game and also leaves a lasting impression when he speaks at the end of the game, saying that he "always fought for the winning side for that was all he has ever known". It made you think that all the creatures that you fought still were intelligent and had their own thoughts and feelings. Also gotta love that smile he gives after you defeat him.

Cucoo from TP in the Hidden Village: I know it's a weird choice but I found it really funny that a chicken took care of all the cats in the village. IDK, I just found it really charming!

Telma from TP: I always loved Telma. I just loved her cocky confident attitude. Also some memorable moments included when she winked at link (he looked so taken aback XD) and when she finished talking to link in Kakariko Village, she ran off after the shaman.

Ooccoo from TP: Although I first found her very disturbing (seriously who came up with her design!), but it was kinda cool to have a companion who served as a useful item, whom sent letters to you and that she was crucial to finding the the sky ruins. Also it was fun trying to find her in dungeons even if she wasn't very hard to find.

Irene from ALBW: Irene was one of the most memorable parts of the game. I loved her constant sarcastic remarks and she really made me want to fast travel everywhere to see what she would say next. She being one of the sages also motivated me further to find her portrait and to defeat Yuga. Ain't nobody gonna mess with my girl!

Zora Queen from ALBW: The image of her being all bloated whilst being stuck in a tiny pool shall always be burned into my mind! XD

Deku Scrub Princess from MM: That part when you simply scoop her up in a bottle is so bizarre and I always loved that since where she was scoring her father by bouncing on him!

Pamela and her Father: That part of the game where you first see a little girl all by herself in Ikana Canyon, is already pretty memorable, but seeing how happy she is when you restore her father to normal had left its mark on me.

The Hand sticking out of the Toilet in MM: Need I say more?

Igos' (King from Ikana Canyon) servants: Not only we're they a fun boss but the dialogue between the servants was pretty funny .

Swordsman in MM: I didn't find this character memorable at all until you find him cowering in fear behind some boxes. Here was a brace swordsman whom was now crying, saying that he didn't want to die. This made majoras mask one of the darkest games I've played and most memorable since that moment made you realise these people are going to die if you fail and seeing someone pleading for life, really left an impact on me.

@GoronBrudda I generally had no trouble with touch controls, but the one thing I missed when playing through those games (in my effort to play every Zelda game before BotW) was strafing. It felt really weird to have your back to the enemy as you were retreating. And if you wanted to get around your enemy? your side was completely exposed.

Hmm... secondary characters? In Majora's Mask, I always thought it was funny how the lady at the treasure chest game would lower her price if she thought you were cute. And the young girl in Ikana Canyon kinda stuck with me. Romani was adorable. Deku Princess was funny. The Deku butler's story was touching. I liked having a jam session with Japas. If I start on any other games, this post will be way too long.

Im playing skyward sword in preparation for breath of the wild.

Having recently played Wind Waker HD, Ocarina of Time 3D, Majora's mask 3D, and Twilight Princess HD this playthrough is reinforcing my opinion that Skyward sword is the best 3D Zelda.

Best combat, best graphics, best story telling, best Zelda Link relationship, best dungeons, best overworld...yes best overworld.

In my view Skyward Sword is the zelda overworld packed with the most content. The overworld actually presents challenges unlike other Zelda games where it is mostly just an empty field to run through. It is cool to revisit areas and further explore them whether its for the story of for just looking for collectibles.

The main complaint I hear about skyward sword is that it's too linear and doesn't require exploration. Well these days I don't like reaching a point in game where I have no idea where to go and just wander aimlessly. This concerns me about my potential enjoyment of breath of the wild. I loved the original zelda where everything was hidden and you had to explore, but that was a different time. I don't have patience for such a game, who plays the original Zelda with out a guide these days? It is too obtuse. It was cool when you were discussing game secrets on the playground or when Nintendo power published second quest maps but we have the internet now.

With this open worldliness that promises aimless exploration I have concerns if I will find that enjoyable.

I also don't see how the can replicate the goodness and complexity and satisfaction of skyward sword motion based combat with buttons.

It's been 5 years since a proper 3D zelda. I hope they did good but I am not hyped for the reasons that many are.

@blaisedinsd I actually prefer the linearity of skyward sword. I'd much prefer a condemned path filled with challenges and content than a more open ended world that's mostly empty.

That isn't to say I'm not super pumped for breath of the wild, I'll be loving every second of it, just that I totally would not mind another game I'm the same vein as skyward sword.

Plus that combat is unforgettable and its a shame we'll probably never really see anything like it again

So has anyone figured out what Link was diving off in that trailer?

Really high up but it doesn't look like that airship thing. Looks like rock.

It's dangerous to go alone! Stay at home.

I'm getting paranoid, don't know if I'm seeing spoilers or not. I'll just stop visiting this thread for now..

Guess that's cool. Sucks it's not exclusive though. Why have amiibo content you can get in the game already (jealous peoples who can't afford them or just don't want to buy them will surely be happy to see others won't get exclusive content... even if others are paying $75 more than they are).

Given the Wolf Link Amiibo, I'm ok with this. Got a full 20 hearts on mine, and I'm ready to have Wolf Link by my side constantly the entire game. I'll use these early on to deck out in some decent gear, and get the ball rollin

@Operative2-0 I am excited for breath of the wild too, that's why I am replaying skyward sword

I just am not overly excited for the open world aspects of it as I always feel that concept sounds better than it is and is never very deep. I just hope the main thrust of the game is the story driven quest with epic dungeons and items. I am excited for that and not wandering around the countryside cooking so much.

The amiibo content isn't exclusive? That's great to know. Always said the amiibo content should be available to all with the statue or not.

They are probably saving the exclusive stuff for the dlc, like the snazzy Switch shirt.

The Amiibo actually do look pretty good, tbh. I wouldn't mind owning one of those.
