I'm wondering if I just don't like Zelda games. I own Twilight Princess and never finished it on the Wii. Bought the Wii-U version and lost interest an hour or so in. I just felt so bored running around looking for a fishing rod.
I also own Skyward Sword, and Windwaker HD, yet unopened.
So many people like this, which is why I question myself. I love Mario and FPS games, but I dunno what to think of Zelda.
Think of is as a game that requires you to explore your wits and your mind. If TP and even Wind Waker wasn't doing for you, then this game might not do so.
Ok, my early impressions.
This game looks amazing without a doubt. I can't find any fault in the visual department. Gameplay wise, its fresh and new and exciting and its now making me want to get the NX for this!
That being said, some few concerns are:
1. Audio: I noticed how the classic music is being done in a dark feel sounding almost similar to Metroid. I like that classic you got this item song before this game but here, it sounds a bit...lonely.
2. Gameplay: Now don't get me wrong, I'm interested to see more of this gameplay as I like what I saw so far. Problem with this is that while I know that this is a demo and its only to showcase the game, there's a few things like getting milk, rupees and standard weapons that concern me. Is everything going to be given free without rupees?
If they remove rupees, then how can you get better shields? How can you get more pouches, the works?
At this point, it feels like this is taking the Metroid approach where everything is free. Again, got no issues in this but since Rupees are a major thing in Zelda, removing it might not satisfy everyone.
Then there's the problem with shrines vs dungeons. So far, the puzzles in the shrines are straightforward with little to no puzzle in them. You easily get the upgrade item and solve the puzzle without first finding the room to get the upgrade and then using the upgrade to solve all the rooms.
On top of this, there doesn't seem to be any actual caves which have things like bats and rocks. If shrines are to replace those real caves, I guess I can get used to it.
3. Story: Now I know that Nintendo stated that the story is never revealed for now. But when seeing the opening, I can't help but feel that this is something that looks very similar to Metroid where Samus wakes up on a tube and seeks out a journey......now this might be fine and all, but that all the more makes me wonder what the story is going to end up like and whether the story ruins the core experience of the game like other m.
So it looks like a simplified version of Xenoblade Chronicles and I'm fine with that. What I'm wondering now is how the next Zelda after this will be like.
The game is truly a breath of fresh air, and almost certainly will be the biggest change to Zelda since Ocarina of Time! Link can jump, he can climb, huge world, you can manipulate the environment...seems ambitious and interesting!
What do you guys think the timeline that this game occurs in is? The dilapidated Temple of Time and Koruks make me feel like this is The Wind Waker timeline, perhaps before Ganon escapes and the flooding occurs. After all, Koruks did not show up in Twilight Princess, so it's unlikely this game is in that timeline.
Also, I think I discovered the first potential difference between the Wii U and NX versions. Notice how the highest resolution of the official game trailer on YouTube for Breath of the Wild is 720p. Most other games for the Wii U that ended up as 1080p in their final releases, like Super Smash Bros and Twilight Princess HD, had YouTube trailers that had 1080p as the highest resolution.
Basically, it's likely that a main difference between the Wii U and NX versions is that the Wii U version will be in 720p, while the NX will be in 1080p.
You know... i was a bit quick to judge today and said the game looked empty but after hearing they removed the towns and NPCs for E3 i retract that statement. Very excited for this game now (again.) Cant wait and i hope it delivers!!

The Archer Link Amiibo looks great, I want one! (that would be the first and only Amiibo I'd buy)
This blue eye perceives all things conjoined. The past, the future, and the present. Everything flows and all is connected. This eye is not merely seen reality. It is touching the truth. Open the eye of truth... There is nothing to fear.

There was this comparison picture between the old man you see at the start on the Plateau and the Hyrule King of Wind Waker...
Having seen all these hours of Gameplay, all other Zelda 3D games all of a sudden seem to tiny with nothing to do.
So they spent basically the entirety of the day mostly in the Beginning Plateau area of the game, right? I wish they could've at least shown us the villages/towns, even if it's just from a distance. It got dull seeing "1000 Ways to Kill a Bokoblin" for 6 hours.

This game looks absolutely stunning. Such vibrant colors and detail! I wasn't able to watch a lot of the Treehouse stream, but I did catch the reveal trailer for this game, plus a lot of the Sun/Moon coverage.
Everyone keeps complaining about how empty it looks, but 1. the game is still in development, and 2. It's likely that some areas were modified or avoided in order to minimize spoilers.
I would love to preorder this game, but since it will also be on the NX, I think I'll wait until we know more about that system first before making any purchasing decisions.
And wow, those new Amiibo! The Guardian is by far my favorite.
(If some of this was covered in previous comments, my apologies. I don't have time to play catch-up, lol)
Currently playing: Pokemon Scarlet DLC, Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury (Switch)

FWIW, Bill explained the reasons for not displaying villages on E3. They walked the borders of the plateau on the stream. They played through 2 shrines outside the plateau. Aonuma showed some videos from parts outside the plateau.
The main purpose of E3 and the treehouse streams is to get familiar only with how the game works.

Empty? So, "everyone" didn't watch the Treehouse streams? I'm pretty sure the game (the plateau) is shown in the state it is intended. People forget that just about anything can be interacted, with actual physics.

I know. I don't think it would be too much to ask for to see a village in the distance and maybe a villager or something. The only other character we saw in the whole game was the old man. It felt very empty at times because of that.

I know, I just wouldn't have minded seeing a village or something.
The detail is amazing. For example, when Link gets hurt, he really looks like he's hurting! (like when he falls to the ground or gets hit by an enemy) it's very realistic.
Yeah, I don't have a Wii U so I'm gonna wait for the NX to be revealed.
