Final Fantasy XV is probably as big as Zelda, but it still doesn't really have a release date. And, irrespective of quality, 7 Remake's episodic release does diminish it's 'ripple effect' in the zeitgeist.

It's really dumb to argue over this stuff because it really doesn't matter AND I do genuinely like seeing you post on the site because I think you're cool. However... Saying Zelda U is the biggest game in the industry right now is just plain wrong. It's REALLY between Final Fantasy XV and Final Fantasy 7 Remake. Just how big do you think Zelda is????
If we're talking "biggest" as in most anticipated, FF15 and KH3 beat out Zelda U by a long shot. Then there's the FF7 remake, which is probably the most requested game in all of gaming history. But that one won't be out for a while, I'm sure, so hype hasn't reached its peak yet.
How do you define anticipation though really? If it just means how much people are talking about something ahead of release, I'd say Zelda definitely beats out FF15 or KH3 and is probably only second to FF7 remake.
But of course part of the reason those are talked about a lot more than something like Uncharted 4 or Dark Souls 3, for example, is because we all know more or less what those games are going to be like whereas FF7 and Zelda are the 2 currently announced games that are both incredibly popular series and yet we know almost nothing about the games.
I'd say a close in 3rd is maybe No Man's Sky.

I HATE to be this guy but I'm a million percent sure that Japan wants Final Fantasy XV, Kingdom Hearts 3 and Final Fantasy 7 Remake FAR more than Zelda U. The same can be said for the WEST also. Kingdom Hearts fans will come out to support KH3 on PS4 when it releases. Zelda fans are torn between buying Zelda U or waiting/hoping/begging/arguing for a NX port.
And do you seriously think No Man's Sky is 3rd????
See the point of beginning your comment with a definition is to try and avoid people just changing the meaning and responding to that instead. Clearly we've reached some kind of optimum resonance
I was trying to say that I think that anticipation could either mean 1) what more people are currently talking about. 2) when it comes out, what more people are going to buy.
Obviously all of those games listed will sell more than Zelda so by that definition are more anticipated.
Original IP can't really have the anticipation that sequels or nth games in the long-lived franchise can. There's no prior work often, and if there is then it's usually a much different concept. Meaning of course that there's nothing to sustain people on it, no text to read, digest, and discuss, thus forming a fandom.
Even though it was more popular at their respective heights, I really think that Final Fantasy XV is less anticipated than Zelda U. For long franchises with lots of texts for fans to go on, I think absence makes the heart grow fonder. Marquee Zelda games (the 3D console ones) have been out of it for longer than their counterparts in Final Fantasy. Moreover, Final Fantasy has received a lot more weird spinoffs and just IOS games, which seem to dilute the value of their marquee games, than Zelda has. Though Zelda is woefully catching up in that regard.
Moreover, Final Fantasy 13 1-3 seem to have just been a bigger dip in popularity / acclaim than Skyward Sword / the late Wii and Wii U era was for Zelda. Lightning Returns sold shockingly low for a mainline FF game.
The Legend Of Zelda is one of the most loved games not just by kids but of all ages. I remember my college friend threw out an instant house party and when she opened the cupboard all she had was something likethese http://partyopedia.co/products/the-legend-of-zelda-birthday-p... Imagine college teens using The Legend Of Zelda paper cups for beers? Not bad. T'was a night of fun!
