Sarcasm doesn't work online, remember (except in your own head).

A what on earth does the ".jpg" part achieve? (I think that joke's supposed to be reserved for actual images)

Bethesda's brand of open world is the most boringest world design of all time. I hope that's not the twist...

I loved the random encounters of Fallout 3 and Skyrim. It helped open those worlds wake made each play through I did different but exciting.

Unless there's a sort of leveling system or crafting system which requires players to kill the monsters out in the world, they are going to need to make it interesting to travel between places. Otherwise it's just a bunch of annoying obstacles blocking Epona's path to the next dungeon.

I've only played Oblivion, so in terms of that game, I agree with you to a point. A coworker of mine who's played Skyrim claims that the open world was improved in that game.

As long as the open world is a little more fleshed out when compared to Twilight Princess, I'm fine with it. I love TP to death, but did occasionally find the world lacking in depth.

A sophisticated crafting system seems wholly unnecessary in a single player game, especially a non-RPG like Zelda. I prefer an equipment upgrade system like in Skyward Sword or A Link Between Worlds, or more broadly, gem socketing systems like Diablo, Final Fantasy VII, Xenoblade, etc.

Don't think Zelda needs a leveling system either. Grinding doesn't suit Zelda, or any other puzzle/adventure game series, at all.

But no Zelda game has ever had combat as bad as an Elder Scrolls game, so I dunno, maybe the big world with bland, lifeless locales wouldn't be as bad of a thing.

I saw a cool suggestion that maybe the "twist" is that you have to figure out how to traverse the terrain by going up on mountains to scout out where to go and they you have to be able to make it around cliffs in one way or another. And nothing to do with the twist thing but I saw another suggestion- how cool would it be if at the beginning of the game Link's village is attacked by a Gerudo army? I could see that being really awesome, and it would be an intro to compete with A Link to the Past's.

What on earth you talking about? That's like the main thing they're good at! It's certainly not story writing and character development.

You mean like the Wind Waker, Twilight Princess, and Skyward Sword? Not exactly original.

@Haru17: They weren't attacked by a Gerudo army in any of those games. Having a larger scale war could add an interesting dimension to the game. Aonuma did say that they were looking to take elements from Hyrule Warriors and large armies could certainly be one of those things.

Where did he say this?

The bosses roaming idea is good in principle. They didn't really implement it in a particularly meaningful way in Hyrule Warriors though. Wasn't really much different than if they'd been stationary.

Well, duh.

I'm saying that all three of those games (the latest 3 comparable ones, no less) use the hometown is attacked / girl stolen trope as their call to adventure. It is a bit done by now.

If I ever need help sleeping, I could just play Morrowind or Skyrim for 20 minutes. Load up the game, walk from one town to the next, and be out like a light.

It's not Bethesda's fault you have hypersomnia
