@Tsurii Most of the Gerudo NPCs (that I have spoken to so far) have some comment about finding a "good voe" and while that is part of the narrative (the Gerudo were described as traveling to Hyrule Castle Town to find boyfriends back in OoT...the sole male child is made the King but there was never any dialogue that he ran a harem because of it so there is no real change from OoT Gerudo on that standpoint.) it is laid on a bit thick in dialogue wise (from the relationship classes- that is wife husbandry- or the woman who is trying to save her husband who was the first voe to say she was beautiful-please don't tell me you got married for THAT reason). Even some of the older Gerudo comment on how they turned the heads of voe back when they were young.
Don't get me wrong there are totally women like that in the world, there are also women that play that game to be left alone or to get what they want out of the world around them just as there are women that don't care about that (that would be me). However I feel like whomever wrote the Gerudo dialogue doesn't spend a ton of time around women (and yes that would include a woman that doesn't hang around women, females can be terribly misogynistic too) as most of the Gerudo I've spoken to so far all have the same sort of theme going on with most of them. It becomes very anvilicious after a point. I'm not saying it is a lost cause, as I really like Lady Urbosa and I think that Chief Riju is really cool shouldering leadership at her age and being very self aware of her situation.
As far as the kids they talk about wanting to fall in love with a voe when they grow up, again something that is jarring to me personally, but also an annoying stereotype because even heterosexual girls don't all pine like this, my friends certainly didn't and I have a few that I would deem boy crazy. My issue is that I highly doubt looking for a husband would be the main focus (even with the biological restriction) of all of the members of an otherwise independent matriarchal civilization. (I have this complaint about most fantasy women only tribes in general, so this isn't a new annoyance for me...) For me, it doesn't make sense and it feels like the game is trying too hard to convince the player that this is a thing they do. However, there is a lot of thirst going on in the game in general: the Zora over the prince Zora, many random Sheikah fawning over Link. For that however, I look at it more as a narrative evolution. Zelda never really focused on everyday heterosexual relationships before...aside from Ruto and her Link obsession (what is it with Zora princesses and the Hero?). There is some of it in Hyrule Warriors (Cia's loneliness/unrequited longing for Link allowed Ganon to corrupt her- yes third party but Aonuma-san mentioned that he did take some notes from HW as inspiration) and the supposed love story in SS so the series has been delving into heterosexual romance for a bit so I am not surprised...just sad I guess. I just want to save the world...
Don't get me wrong, I'm not running around hollering "They mentioned a MAN again grrr" , for the most part I'm just wandering around enjoying the game. It just seems the portrayal of the Gerudo seems a bit one dimensional at times and not what I would have expected or wanted from a supposed female centric culture. Most of it is eye role worthy honestly.
@NEStalgia Like I said my issue is that it is anvilicious. I figured the Hylians were around 5 feet since Ganon was 7' 6" in OoT (I've seen 7-8 feet in various sources). So I expect adult Gerudo Vai to be around 6-6 1/2 feet in height. ... I don't think they look WWE at all, they have different body types in game and most while very fit don't look like they are absurdly developed. There are women in my dojo that have that type of ab definition...heck there are women in my old taiko group that are that defined (one of them went fully pro recently so there is that...she practices...a lot). I can't comment on how difficult it is expected to be for them to find a date as I'll admit to blushing the first time I saw Lady Urbosa. But hey I'm not a guy so I can't speak to how that works on the flipside.

@Ryu_Niiyama There's a Miiverse page for the Wii U version, isn't there? Or did they axe it in their baffling effort to make both versions as identical as possible?
@Ryu_Niiyama "and the supposed love story in SS so the series has been delving into heterosexual romance for a bit so I am not surprised..."
Does that count as hetero when it's between man and....ancient magic talking sword...?
But yeah overall I think MOSTLY they're trying to use the brief dialogue to convey the nature of Gerudo civilization because they're assuming you don't have any backstory on them until you walk into the town. So it seems overdone when you walk in with the past 20 years of Zelda history and the Historia on your shelf that every vai you talk to is pining for a voe. But for someone coming in to the series now, hearing every vai talk about pining for a voe is the only real clue you get that there ARE no voes and it's a problem. It still doesn't give enough backstory for a newcomer to get much more than the basics.
Though I still hate the Gerudo after that darned stealth mission in OoT. I learned to hate them from the first time I met them and kept getting thrown back in a cell That and the whole Ganondorf thing I still refuse to accept as canon. I started with Zelda 1, 2, and LttP. Ganon is a giant evil pig because reasons. On a platform where you learned that eating mushrooms makes you big so you can go fight a giant goth turtle to save a princess, you don't need any more info for a giant evil pig to make sense. Ganon is and always has been a giant evil pig, and I choose to ignore the fanfic of the last 20 years that says he was born a Gerudo named Ganondorf! ( stamps foot defiantly )

@Octane on the part of his book (the one link can read on his own) that talks about cooking with fairies, he mentions he's 35 and hasn't been able to find any fairies yet.
I know I am way behind, but I defeated my first Lynel today. Easier than I thought although I didn't make it look easy like the videos posted on the main page. Biggest issue for me is at the end of his lifebar when he starts striking repeatedly and I was foolish enough to leave a two hand weapon on so I couldn't use a shield block very easily.
@DarthNocturnal In Twilight Princess Shepherd you train to become a shepherd and tend to the Ordon goats for the rest of your life. You enjoyed the tutorial part in TP? Well, guess what, you can now enjoy it for the entire duration of the game!
@NEStalgia Aww....I kinda wish Fi could talk now and then. I guess she was ticked that her Master came back as a wimp this time huh? I mean you could DIE if you didn't meet her requirements...and the Deku Tree couldn't care less. Was it a "romance" between the two of them? I mean it's a video game so I wouldn't be surprised. However I could have sworn that the dev team established that the first Zelda and Link were paired because Hylia loved her Hero/Champion/Chosen whatever. I could be wrong...I don't skip dialogue but I do mentally check out if I find it dull.
...I thought the stealth mission was fun in OoT. I swear I keep getting this thought that if you did a side by side comparison of you and I playing games as kids that sections where you would throw a controller I'd be smiling and sections where you are happy I'd ragequit.
I'm waiting on my copy of the encyclopedia to come in. Wanted the Japanese perspective as well. Look it isn't my fault I'm a Scribe of Hylia... Next you will be saying that the CD-I versions are canon...Also if the Zelda mythos is fan-fiction it needs more Shoujo-Ai! Who's with me? Oh just me? Ok. Also if you are an LttP fan then you know they started the mythos building there (See localization is not always bad.)...Mandrag Gannon (or Ganon) and his band of thieves... which makes me wonder if he slaughtered a bunch of Gerudo if not all of them because, greedy pig man...I mean it isn't like he turned Hyrule in to a Gerudo paradise (which is why I look at WW Ganon and go...sure buddy, I believe you, positive motivation...riiiiiight) after he murdered the King and took his castle (what is with Ganon and that castle...Dude has literal god like power from the Goddess that made the world...MAKE YOUR OWN HOUSE) for seven years. I will say I miss the whole Sacred Realm/Triforce reading your heart and altering your form thing. I blame Rauru for messing that up.
I don't know what to tell you about the Mario acid trip...I still say the movie did the best it could with the subject matter. Bowser isn't goth...um... he is just um... ok yeah the spikes are a bit emo. At least the red hair is natural.
Does anyone know of a good place to find the Hearty Lizards? I never got a pic and I need some for armor upgrades. Thanks!
