@Jen10 But dont do them all at once. Bad wording on my side. Just climb the one you need at the moment.

You should complete the shrines if you want to max your health or stamina gauge. And after completion you can use the shrine as a fast travel point. Also you should stay attentive during tutorials^^

@Jhena, thanks for the info, it's a real help. If you use the Shrine to travel does your horse come with you or do you need to find another one??

@Jen10 As far i remember it stays where it is. I was slightly annoyed at first about this but found it soon nice because it didnt feel so cheap when your horse just spawned near you like in other games. But I wouldnt recommend a horse either way. At least for me it felt so restricting. Riding is fast but freedom is just so much superior and more satisfying in this game.

Just try playing with and without a horse and see for yourself what suits you.

@Jhena, thanks, i'll experiment with / without the horse. I must admit i felt a little guilty earlier when an enemy hit my horse & then he got zapped by the lightening that killed me lol

Ugh... Curse my curiosity...

I decide to go into Hyrule Castle to get one thing. Just. One. Thing.
That was the plan, just get the Hylian Shield and leave but nope. Now my mind set is stuck in "You're here now, might as well..." mode, and I'm finding new stuff left and right. I really shouldn't be here... but since I am... Does anyone know where the "cookbook" is? It's needed for a sidequest.

lol. I so so know what you mean! (not just in this castle either!) I get like that no matter what I happen to be doing in the game. (getting sidetracked in a zelda game is part and parcel of just about any Zelda game though), but yes, while I love every single Zelda game to bits, getting so sidetracked does kinda make it frustratingly hard try keep track of all the many quests you started but need to somehow try and remember to get back to! Fortunately both Breath of the Wild and also Majora's mask both having proper sidequest logbooks built into the game help that situation alot (but then there's still all the things you intend to do that aren't really sidequest based, so won't have a log for, yet they themselves become half-eaten apples that get started and never finished).

For this reason, I tend to find that making my own "to do" logs on a spreadsheet that I can mark each one off as and whenever I get back to them is the least confusing way to keep track of stuff without forgetting to come back to anything. (I also keep them afterwards so that I can refer back to it when replaying a zelda game in the future, as the groundwork of actually making such a list is already done then, and I can just clear off all the checkmarks, but re-use the to do parts. (also lets me replay zelda games without having to use a set structure like you would have faced if checking things off via the rigid order of using a walkthrough guide, so can just try to find it all again naturally in any order just by exploring, so can have a different gameplay experience each time, whilst still being able to keep track of what I've done and what I haven't in a meaningful way. So makes all future playthroughs alot more freer and fun, without the headache of having to simultaneously remember thousands of things in my poor tiny brain.

The google sheets version of spreadsheets is a great way to create these to do lists, as they're nice and easy to just access from my phone whilst I'm playing, even if I happen not to be playing at home at the time. The excel or apple versions of spreadsheets still work aswell, but are nowhere near as smartphone friendly as the google sheets app for doing this, I tend to find.

@Jen10 I know that feel. I was slightly shocked when my first horse died. Mild Spoiler regarding that.
If your horse gets killed you can get it resurrected. I dont remember where exactly. Somewhere around the Hylia sea? Just google it. Anyway dont feel overly sad if your horse dies^^

I have a spare collectors edition of BoTw if anybody wants it! Will accept what I paid + postage. Pre ordered for a mate as he was travelling and he's since come back and decided he doesn't really have the funds for it. Thought I'd offer it here before I do an Amazon return

When you say collectors edition, which of the two collectors editions did you mean? (is it the one with the colorful picture, or the brown one with the gold plated design on it?). If so, how much are you selling it for?

I just finished Thyphlo Ruins and that was seriously awesome. Nothing too novel, but the idea is brilliant.

(Well this turned into a wall of text...)
This paragraph is sort of a spoiler. I imagine I've finished about half of the game so far, although I have about 70 shrines. The problems I've had so far are: the lack of different enemies and bosses (biggest problem the game has imo), shrines are short/too many blessings and tests of strength, durians are op (seriously just cook one), you can pause the game and consume food immediately, a ton of materials just sort of sit in my inventory, the way creatures decide to just randomly despawn is irksome, NPCs aren't too interactive, and the rewards for exploring become the same thing after a while (i.e. materials you've already seen and korok seeds which you only need so much of).

Other than maybe the first point, all of these are pretty minor issues; I think many of the problems with this game mainly come down to: you've got this massive overworld, but other than the shrines and quests, you've effectively seen all the overworld has to offer before you've even explored half of it. And while I share this sentiment, I would rather have what we got than a more condensed version of Hyrule with no repetition.

However, there are two things this game does that makes it, IMO, the best Zelda yet.

I did not realize how much I've wanted open ended puzzles (and to a lesser extent combat) until they were right in my face. When I did the Aim for the Moment, Shae Loya shrine, I could not figure out what the game wanted me to do. So I finally decided to pick up the chest with Magnesis and push the ball off the pedestal. It worked, and I was ecstatic; the game is worth $60 just for those moments.

Then there's the Sheikah Slate +. I didn't even get it until a few dozen hours in because I was busy wandering around, but... I get to fill out the compendium myself? With my own pictures? And then I can search for those objects whenever I want? That's such a MasterWario thing to put into a game, and it is completely unnecessary. Yet they put it in anyway!
.

I will also say that I'm a fan of the voice acting, even if it is cringe worthy at times.

@Jhena No problem. Glad to be of service.

I'm finally utilizing the game guide I got. I wanted to play through most of it blind but it's time to finish up all the shrines and end the game. No way I'm going for 100% complete. Too many mundane side quests. Though I do wanna finish the compendium. It gives me a fun Metroid prime feeling.

I seriously wanted to see how ridiculous a Sheikah tech digital fishing rod, double hookshot, and ball & chain could get.

It's also kind of strange that — unlike Horizon which features evil corrupted robots and hacking to control them in its gameplay as well as its story — Zelda doesn't let Link tap his iPad on the guardians' undersides and control them.

Anyway, I think the voice acting is totally fine. It's not tearjerking at all, but that's the fault of the shoddy writing and runtime. I actually liked the whole formalized dialect many characters spoke in, but the situations they had to speak in response to were seriously flawed writing.

Don't hate me because I'm bnahabulous.

Haru17

And uh, don't mind me. I'm just going to buy a Zelda amiibo...

(late game gear spoilers)

Farming guardians is so easy now thanks to the tips I read in this thread about parrying their laser beams. Though I wasn't aware the blood moon applied to them as well

FGPackers

@Operative2-0 there's absolutely no need for that technique if you have the Master Sword. With 2 hits you can cut a leg to stun them, then it's just a slash after another to finish the job

I wasn't aware of that, that's good to know. Though I'd prefer the shield method just to save on the durability of that weapon for more worthy fights

@shaneoh Blowing stuff up and shooting stuff. I liked the fishing in OOT and TP. It's just one of those mini games I enjoy, especially if they allow you to fish everywhere. Would've been perfect for this game IMO. Bow and arrow just isn't as satisfying...

Beat the game! I gotta say, though, I'm feeling a bit of a let down from the overall story, though. I just thought there would be more.

So I've got a question: I've unlocked all of the memories gotten from the photographs, captured all four divine beasts, beaten the game with the special ending. My Main Quest log says 14/15, but that's only because the game won't let me save after the "Defeat Ganon" quest. Besides that, is there any critical piece of story or lore that I'm missing? Anything big? I heard Kass tells you something really important, but I haven't unlocked it from him yet. Does anyone have any suggestions on where I should look next (without just flat out spoiling the story, of course)?

Got married.
