@Losermagnet Hey the 3rd was my favorite! Don't say it with shame! I do miss the original April O'Neil (Judith Hoag) even though Paige Turco had the role longer. I'm not sure what it is but Paige's April didn't feel like April to me. I'm sure that is 100% nostalgia burned into my 5 year old brain at the time. Just like how I love 3 merely because Vivian Wu is in it (even though her Japanese is understandably horrible). Or that I only went back and watched the 80's show as a kid because I heard Uncle Phil (rest in power Mr. Avery) was in it.

No love for the 90s live action show? I feel like the only person that watched it.

That being said I do wonder if this is gonna be pure 80s enemies or will it pull from the comics or more modern sources?

tbh, TMNT goes along with Star Wars and 007 as an IP that I love mostly because of video games that came out of it. I watched maybe 2 seasons of the 2003 cartoon and I watched the original movie a few years ago (a way better action movie than it has ANY right to be) but that's about it. Hilariously, TMNT out of those three IPs is the one I had no negative experiences from their non-video games.

Give them a chance to, there’s a lot of crud from them like their music and gigs.

@Ryu_Niiyama @bimmy-lee The closet they have to an Arcade Collection is the 1UP Arcade Cabinets with both games on it. I don't know how exactly they got all parties together for this but I have heard that they removed all references to Konami.

Other then that the only release of the TMNT arcade games was years ago on PSN and Xbox Live with a release of the original and a remake of Turtles in Time. Sadly though those have long since been removed.

Still though with that release of the 1UP arcade cabinet it at least makes it a possibility that a release could be done.

@Tasuki Yeah I'm still kicking myself for not getting those. But the xbox 360 was during my "broke arse college and drowning in student loan debt after college" years...plus my nightmares with the system itself. I would love to play the remake at some point. Not gonna happen though.

I've seen the 1up cab, but honestly I'd rather buy the original cabinet. Not saying I've got it like that but if I was that determined to play and there was no modern console offereing I would want the original. If I ever get a house. One day. Gotta get the X-men and spiderman cabs first though.

@bimmy-lee @Ryu_Niiyama The cartoon had an insane amount of characters, and the trailer makes it seem like the game is heavily based on that. I'm trying not to get my hopes up too much though. If there's one complaint I have about Streets of Rage 4, it's the lack of extra characters (not counting sprite based ones).

@Ryu_Niiyama For me, the first TMNT movie holds up really well and is the one I watch most often now. The second movie is good, but is just a little too goofy for its own good and comes off a bit childish (fwiw, the second movie was my favorite as a kid). I haven't seen the third one in ages, but I remember liking it as a kid. Had it on VHS. I want to watch it again, but i dunno.... It kills me they didn't use Jim Henson's Cresture Shop for the turtle suits. And Judith Hoag had the sass! Paige Turco is good, but feels a bit safe in the role.

I started reading the original comics not that long ago and they're fantastic. I think i'm gonna buy the complete 80s cartoon series too. Anybody have some insight into other Turtles media? Is there an animated reboot that I should seek out? Are the Michael Bay movies any good?

@Losermagnet By Hylia, that's it! I couldn't think of the why I felt there was a difference but the first April absolutely torched anybody that messed with her, verbally. Yet she was very kind and just seemed really cool considering how dangerous her job was and all the stuff that happened to her.

I liked the fact that Ernie Reyes Jr had a role in the second one as he and his dad were two of my training heroes growing up but the goofiness was off putting after the more serious and balanced tone of the first. The first one felt like turtles could live in NYC but the the second felt like a comic or cartoon. Still love all three though. Have em on vhs and bluray.

I did like the 2003 series, but I stopped after that. I only saw the pure cgi movie and I decided I should quit while I still enjoyed the franchise. But for me the series isn't sacred cow status or anything.

@Ryu_Niiyama The Turtles in Time Remake was ok it had it's flaws but it was fun, personal I like the SNES version more. Those two games, The Simpsons and X-men arcade ports are the only reason I still have my Xbox 360.

@Losermagnet The Michael Bay movies are ok nowhere near as good as the 90 movie. I thought the second one Out of the Shadows was alot better then the first one and was a good nod to the 80s cartoon. The first one the story was odd and the characters felt flat especially the Eric Sacks character. Of course that was due to the rewrite they did due to the negative criticism of Iron Man 3's twist on the Mandarin.

@Tasuki - Oh man, are those 1Up Turtle cabinets available or yet to be released? I almost broke down and bought a 1Up Pac Man cocktail table last summer, but I held off thinking I’d rather have the Turtle cabinet if I were to take the plunge.

@Losermagnet - I kind of enjoyed the experience method for unlocking the characters as it gave me an excuse to play it on repeat, but yeah, the full roster could have been better. I was happy to get Skate though. I’m not sure whether the new characters are coming in the update or DLC (or both) later this year, but I’m looking forward to getting back into it again.

If you’re looking to read the Turtle books, IDW Press has a three or four volume compendium of Turtle comics. I didn’t know about the Turtles before the original cartoon, but I read that IDW collection a while ago and enjoyed it. I’m sure you’re aware, but the original Turtles are different than they’ve ever been portrayed in other media. There will be blood.

@bimmy-lee they're out in the wild, at Walmart at least. Still chomping at the bit to grab one, but its $400..perhaps Father's day gift to oneself? Yes!

@NintendoByNature - I’ll surprise the whole family on Father’s Day! It’s a lot, but it would be so fun. If they ever show up at Costco, there’s a 50% chance I put money in mouth.

@bimmy-lee They have been out for about a year now. I remember seeing them at my local Walmart and Best Buy last summer. I have been tempted myself to get one but it was either that or an Xbox Series X. The cabinet is nice but I can find other ways to play those games. Plus as I said before I have the first arcade game on my Xbox 360 and Turtles in Time on SNES. Although I need to get a working SNES Clone to play it.

@Tasuki - Time flies I guess. I was looking at the 1Up site last night and noticed they also have the XMen 4p mini cab as well. I don’t understand how some of these games with licensed material can end up on 1Up cabs or XBox, but not all consoles, and why some of the licensed games are never seen again unless you find a retro arcade. There are so many great licensed bmups that could potentially make a comeback right now it’s kind of frustrating.

@bimmy-lee It all has to do with licensing. I think at the time TMNT 1989 (Which is what they called the first Arcade game on Xbox) Konamit had the TMNT video game license and of course Mirage Studios had the TMNT overall rights. As for Turtles in Time on Xbox that game was a total remake from the ground up by Ubisoft who had the TMNT video game rights at the time. Now that neither company has the video game rights (I believe it's Activision that has it now) and Nickelodeon has all rights to TMNT, except for the original comics that was why those games were pulled off of XLA and PSN.

As for how 1UP Arcade was able to get the games I am not sure because Konami even though they don't own the game or character rights they would own the rights to the sprites and level designs and such. However my theory is, since all mention of Konami has been removed from the 1UP cabinets, I think Nickelodeon paid Konami a sum of a small portion per sale of each unit to be able to use it. Since Konami at this time doesn't seem to be be interested in gaming now more on Pachinko machines and such took the check and let Nickelodeon use the ROMs for the 1UP machines. But again that's my theory.

But yes it boggles my mind too why companies don't want to do legacy products. That was one thing that made me just shake my head when Jim Ryan from Playstation said that players don't care about playing older games. These companies are so blind if that's the case. There is a huge market for these older games, anyone can see that. It just stumps me how companies think at times.

@bimmy-lee i think what i have is the first idw set actually! It ends with them killing Shredder. I knew going into it that it was more violent but it's still pretty shocking to see. I've been meaning to get more but they are a bit pricey.

@Ryu_Niiyama i may look into the 2003 series then. I haven't decided if its worth it to get the 80s cartoon yet.

@Tasuki i remember hearing one of the michael bay movies was suppose to be decent. Couldnt remember which.

Tasuki

@Losermagnet Yeah that would be the second one as that brought it alot of stuff from the 80s cartoon like Bebop and Rocksteady. As I said the last minute rewrites on the first one really hurt that movie.

@Tasuki what was the rewrite in iron man 3? I don't keep up with Marvel so it's news to me.

@Losermagnet It wasn't a rewrite of Iron Man 3, it was a rewrite of the first Michael Bay TMNT movie because of Iron Man 3.

Long story short the writers of Iron Man 3 changed the back ground of The Mandrin character one of Iron Man's greatest villains and it wasn't for the good. They basically made him a henchman to the main villain in Iron Man 3.

Well in the first TMNT movie original actor William Fichtner was going to be The Shredder but it wasn't known to the public yet the production company kept it quiet cause they wanted it to be a surprise. Anyway they named the character Eric Sacks and he was going to be just a white guy who loved Japanese culture a little too much. However because of the negativity Marvel got for what they did to The Mandarin they changed Shredder back to being Japanese and got a different actor however most of the movie was finished already so they kept the Eric Sacks character in which just made no sense since he never became The Shredder so his background we didn't need to know, his motives were never explained and his connection to April and the Turtles wasn't explained. He also had scars on him that weren't explained either. Not only that they also had no explanation who The Shredder is because the rewritten version was shoehorned in so it was never explained why the Turtles were after a Japanese guy who loved blades and vice versa.

@Tasuki - Wow, that’s a lot of good information, thanks man. I like the 1Up cabs, but I wish the software didn’t have to be restricted to them in this case. Yeah, it sure seems like there’s so much wasted potential with the trove of legacy content some of these companies are sitting on. Whether they port, remake, or do a sequel; there’s definitely a market for it.

@Losermagnet - Yeah, the violence is shocking to see after years of knowing mostly fun loving, non lethal Turtles. Those books would be really nice to own, I just borrowed the set from the library when I read them though. Good stuff.

@NintendoByNature - Awwww... heroes in a half shell, they’re on a mission,
when there’s a battle got the enemy wishin, that they’d stayed at home instead of fightin, these ninja masters with moves like lightning.
