@Curlynob Well, the Shadow of the Colossus a completely rebuilt from scratch, and it's only €40. Meanwhile, Nintendo is selling the same Tropical Freeze for €60, whereas even the original Wii U version was only €50. If, instead of ports, they released full remakes of their older games for a budget price, I'd welcome that change.
Not to mention it’s only £19.99 for Wii U brand new for almost a year both physical or digital.
For someone who never owned a Wii U, price is right (more or less) because it’s a brand new game for them.. but for me, there’s no chance I’ll double dip for same game. Maybe one day when prices drop or if I find cheap used one. Same goes for Bayonetta, sadly.
That Wii U porting business makes me feel like a fool tbh. If only Nintendo wouldn’t be Nintendo and have a proper account service so we, who own games on Wii U have a privilege to buy same games at discounted prices.. that would be fair.. but noooo. No love for Wii U supporters at all.
Already bought Zelda BOTW for both consoles and you know what they say.. “fool me once...”
@The__Goomba
If you referring to me.. thanks for advice.
But I’m not pessimist, nor optimist , I’m realist. These are facts and my thoughts about that matter at this moment, not predictions about future.
I’m happy for newcomers who skipped great games on Wii U but can’t help myself feeling “cheated” or reaped off for same games on Switch. Actually, I think it’s a smart move for Nintendo to port older games rather then making new ones - financially speaking. And it’s not like I need to buy all of them so no real harm.
My Switch definitely won’t collect dust this year even if they don’t release any new first party game because I already have enough games to keep me busy until Fire Emblem comes out (if they won’t delay it for 2019 because porting all wii u games lol) .. not to mention all other games coming from 3rd parties and indies.
I think Nintendo has really dropped the ball here. There’s only 300+ games available for nintys ailing console after a full 10 and a half months. And with only a few hundred due for release within the next 12 months Its looking like the WiiU all over again. I’m going to box mine back up, seal it in concrete and drop it in the Atlantic Ocean.
I don't know about the whole year, since we've only really heard about the games in the first half, but yeah, it's already been a dust collector for me since Odyssey, and I don't see that changing for a good while. I've been having way more fun with my PS4.
It's a good console, and it's still early on in its lifespan, but I think the Switch will probably never be my primary console, unfortunately. Maybe it will be eventually, since I don't think I'll be buying a PS5 right away, but it won't be for a good while.
They have figured out a plan. It's what they're doing right now. See, despite a few vocal complaints like the ones in this thread, the Big Three figured out a long time ago that this just works.
There is no magical shortcut through this process. Big, original video games take a long time to make, and no big third-party developer was going to start working on original Switch games before they knew that the Switch was going to be worth their time. Realistically, most devs probably only started working on things for Switch after it became absolutely clear that the Switch was going to totally eclipse WiiU, i.e. around Q4 2017. I would bet that we'll start seeing some of those projects in another six months or so. But the really big games, the AAA games, will not have Switch versions ready to go in 2018, because those are things with development cycles measured in years. If you're expecting a new Assassin's Creed game for Switch, you're just going to have to wait. AC:O was in development for three years. It can't just be magically ported to Switch overnight.
So what will we have to play in the meantime? Well, things that take less time to develop... like indies and ports of last-gen games, especially Nintendo's own library.
Although the sarcasm is hilarious, the facts need to be looked at. The ones complaining for and against are already bought into the Switch or they wouldn't be so riled up either way. The links above are what are important to get new people on board.
@MarcelRguez The topic is that the OPs Switch will be gathering dust. My guess is that is due to lack of games he is interested in. Probably he, along with others, will turn to other consoles to scratch that itch as will many potential buyers. Not sure how that is meaningless. You obviously care about sales figures, well that's exactly what I'm tying in here. I'm done contributing if we cant mull things over and just resort to calling each other's opinion meaningless.
@Shellcore
I think you're missing the point because this topic hasn't really been about the PS4 and XBOne. It has from the start basically been about how Wii U ports on the Switch somehow make the Switch a worse platform to own than the Wii U was. That's why people keep pointing to sales and what the average consumer wants. That's why in previous pages I have made a point of saying that we aren't the average consumer.

An opinion is only respectable if it can be defended. Respect people, not opinions
@Shellcore The problem here is, OP is jumping the gun a bit, this time last year people thought the Switch would be a flop and Nintendo will fail and no good games could be made for it, 1 year later and things could not be more different.
Now we get the same thing, one month in 2018 and people think the Switch will be gathering dust, if this post came after May, i'd stay quiet, as it stands though, it didn't.
Man, each to their own but I'm drowning in Switch games. Heck, BotW and Xenoblade 2 alone are easily 100+ hour games for me(Done with BotW, clocked over 150 hrs. Not done with Xenoblade 2, but at the pace I'm going, this will be a similar case.) Then there's Skyrim which I haven't picked up yet.
I see the Wii U ports getting a lot of flak, but a few things people need to understand: 1) Wii U games are new to a good chunk of Switch owners. 2) Whether it's a new experience or a double dip, there's still an audience for these games regardless. 3) Most of the Wii U ports have new content(MK 8 Deluxe, Pokken, Hyrule Warriors etc.) This is actually refreshing to see compared to most of the PS360 ports on PS4/XB1 which were just copy/paste jobs.
@MarcelRguez Politeness should be a given. The others have put their counterpoints together and probably don't need a response. Their words are there. As are mine. Thank you for your time. I'm done.
And if you look at the original article they also compare switch with ps4 and Xbox one. Switch has almost twice as much games as the PS4 in the same time frame.
Maybe a better topic is "Nintendo isn't announcing or releasing big new games in mid-Winter, same as usual, but has a steady stream of quality ports from their last console that nobody bought." Not as catchy though.
Excuse me while I go pre-order Shadow of the Colossus and FFX for the 3rd generation in a row.
