I like the Switch, but am disappointed that we may have to wait for E3 to see what games are coming in 2018. Nintendo did a great job in 2017, but it looks like the poor guy is tuckered out for 2018.
For me, personally, I would just say to play what you want to play on whatever device you want to play it. If there is nothing on the Switch that tickles your fancy and you can afford to keep it, then let it gather dust until titles come out that you do. For me personally, there are only a few titles that are coming out that I want on Switch and plenty of the indies I have played elsewhere. I played my PS4 more than my Switch last year but at the same time, I still sunk many many hours into the Switch and I will buy more titles.
Now I may be an idiot, but there's one thing I am not sir, and that sir, is an idiot
I think what they should‘ve done is a second January stage event like they did for Switch last year. Show off some of the big things coming in 2018, show trailers for early year stuff like Kirby, Mario Tennis and Dark Souls and give teases for Fire Emblem and (speculation) Animal Crossing and Smash 4 Deluxe. I mean, I‘m perfectly content with the Direct Mini but then we wouldn‘t have this entire discussion about the doom and gloom of Switch in 2018.
When I first bought my PS4 in summer 2015 there were a lot of complaints over on push square about ports. Games require a lot of development time these days, it happens with every new console. The launch titles start to dry up and it takes a while for the newly developed games to start coming through. The first PS4 games that I bought were Arkham Knight, Tomb Raider Definitive Edition, The Last of Us Remastered and The Uncharted Collection - most of which were PS3 ports. I was happy, I hadn't played them before. Interestingly even in 2018 the PS4 game I'm most interested in playing is currently Shadow of the Colossus, a game originally launched on Playstation 2, remastered for Playstation 3 and rebuilt for Playstation 4.
@Luckyland chill man, I fully understand that people were disappointed with the WiiU, but I'm only saying that from my perspective (maybe mowerdude's perspective too) the Switch just doesn't have that many games to offer. I also assumed that there are many people on this website who have had a WiiU and have played at least the big games, like Mario Kart 8 and DKC:TF, so that's why I was wondering why there are so many people arguing mowerdude's opinion.
I understand that if you really dislike the WiiU, like @GoldenGamer8 does, that you'll play thes games on the Switch instead of the WiiU. If you haven't played these games yet you should really buy them though, because there are some games on the WiiU that are one of the best, if not the best, games in their series
Yeah but the thing is, none of these giant corporations with deep deep pockets have been caught unawares by this. They've been dealing with generational shifts for DECADES. Why have they still not figured out a plan to smoothly phase out the old while introducing the new without these massive deadzones?
@Curlynob Well, the Shadow of the Colossus a completely rebuilt from scratch, and it's only €40. Meanwhile, Nintendo is selling the same Tropical Freeze for €60, whereas even the original Wii U version was only €50. If, instead of ports, they released full remakes of their older games for a budget price, I'd welcome that change.
@GoldenGamer88 Yes we would. This is NL. If there is no doom and gloom about Nintendo it will be invented here. I swear, if you want a positive atmosphere around Nintendo, read IGN and Kotaku....only NL can be so pessimistic while the console is skyrocketing to legendary status in a mere 11 months
@curlynob everyone seems to forget about that era of PS4. Until recently that's the only era I remembered! I now have a glut of PS4 games outnumbering my switch games due to my introdution to PSVR, the exclusives I already had/wanted, and the recent sales with quite a few older titles that interested me. But man that first year was just BAD. WiiU was amazing next to the lackluster PS4 of year 1. It was all PS3 ports and B-titles along with the usual "rush to new gen releases" from EA and such. Switch is light years ahead, in year 1, of PS4's year 1.
Games for Switch everyone forgets about because no dates are listed for the West yet:
DQ11, SMTV, Octopath, DQ Builders 2 (might be next year since 1 is just coming out now.) Sure it's RPG heavy, but that's the point, that's like 500 hours of gaming right there.
Ultimately Switch was laughed at by developers until launch. They put nothing in the pipeline for it. Now it's taking off like crazy and they're scrambling to put games into production for it to ride the wave. But it takes 1-4 years to bring up a game to release. So 2018 will be modest with Nintendo heavy releases (and the big partners like Atlus and S-E, and Bethesda (do we really think Fallout 4 isn't coming?), but in 2-3 years we're going to be inundated with far more content than we could hope to keep up with, because it all went into production 3 months ago.
@gcunit The January dead zone may have existed but February is heavily loaded: Bayo, Payday, DQ Builders, and I'm sure there's something I'm forgetting. Maybe not big hitters, but Winter is never much of a release window for Nintendo so that's pretty big anyway. Fall into Christmas, with a secondary spring/early summer window is their style.
Perhaps maybe for you, but definitely not for me. I don't anywhere near the time I need to play all the games that are being released. Gaming would be my job to be honest.

@Octane My comment about Collusus was more of an aside, but I agree with you - they have totally rebuilt the game AND released it at a great price point. I'm in two minds whether to double dip on tropical freeze, and it's one of my favorite games - because of the price. In fairness though, The Last of Us released on PS4 at an Amazon price of £44 (according to my price tracker app) just over a year after it originally released on PS3. My main point though was that ports are part and parcel of the early life of any new console, and that Switch is no different.
@NEStalgia I‘d dare to say any community has complainers. Humans by nature are a species driven by the neverending feeling of lack (oh jeez, Rick, I’m getting philosophical again). It‘s just basically subjective statements that warrant little to no actual discussion like the one that started this thread that annoy me a tad. Sure, several discussions spawned from it but none the OP actually intended for. And then you start to wonder the point and direction of this thread. I mean, I do like reading what everyone has to say, I always do, this thread just feels rather unfocused to me.
Could‘ve dropped my above comment into the 'Should Nintendo change its announcement policy?' thread (https://www.nintendolife.com/forums/general_discussion/should_nintendo_change_its_announcement_policy), too. Ah well.

@Curlynob True, though I believe TLOU Remastered also included the Left Behind DLC. It was originally planned to launch for $60, but they dropped the price to $50 and refunded all pre-orders. I'd say that $50 for a remastered game that not's even a year old + DLC is still a decent deal.
Anyway, you're right, ports are part of it these days. I'm fine with that. But just as I think the first year of PS4 was pretty barren in terms of new releases, 2018 seems to be the same (as of now), but it's even more surprising since last year was a lot better (despite me getting Zelda on the Wii U).
I'm willing to double dip for ports, but Nintendo's habit of releasing everything at €60 means I'll be looking elsewhere to get my gaming fix for early 2018. I find it difficult to pay more for Tropical Freeze than I originally paid for, just to play the same game again. If it was €30 or €40? I'd consider it. For €60 I can get any (new) game I haven't played before.

They have figured out a plan. It's what they're doing right now. See, despite a few vocal complaints like the ones in this thread, the Big Three figured out a long time ago that this just works.
There is no magical shortcut through this process. Big, original video games take a long time to make, and no big third-party developer was going to start working on original Switch games before they knew that the Switch was going to be worth their time. Realistically, most devs probably only started working on things for Switch after it became absolutely clear that the Switch was going to totally eclipse WiiU, i.e. around Q4 2017. I would bet that we'll start seeing some of those projects in another six months or so. But the really big games, the AAA games, will not have Switch versions ready to go in 2018, because those are things with development cycles measured in years. If you're expecting a new Assassin's Creed game for Switch, you're just going to have to wait. AC:O was in development for three years. It can't just be magically ported to Switch overnight.
So what will we have to play in the meantime? Well, things that take less time to develop... like indies and ports of last-gen games, especially Nintendo's own library.

Remind yourself that overconfidence is a slow and insidious killer.
It's too soon to tell. But I disagree, the Switch is a great selling console and a great opportunity for Nintendo to push new games and bring further innovation with the increased fan base. If they take advantage and it comes to nothing, well.... shame on Nintendo I guess.
