I've read some of the negative zeroes on Metacritic and it's actually hilarious.
One person stated that Nintendo "prostituted" the demos too much hence ruining the surprise for any characters and ruining the game. You cannot make this up, folks.
@Ryzaerian glad it's not just me. That's pretty much the same strategies i was trying. That battle was horrible! Almost made me stop playing. Nothing since has been close to as broken.
Still, it's kind of hilarious that it's Bayonetta out of all 100 plus characters that's broken given her smash 4 antics
I'm new to Smash Bros. I love fighting games like Streetfighter II (been playing since the arcade machine came out) and thought I'd get on with the simple-sounding control system of a Nintendo fighter that's played by people of all ages.
This game is so hard and overwhelming! The controls are simple enough but it's so fast! I have no idea what I'm doing. I've only spent time in training and playing Smash so far. I've managed to unlock a couple of fighters but I'm not progressing anymore. I ended up taking a break with a couple of hours of Diablo 3.
My problem is I'm not having any fun with the game yet. I'm finding it frustrating. I'm now reading up on topics like how to recover from fall off the level (because that happens a lot!) and getting some tips in the hope that it will all click. How is it that I've always enjoyed Streetfighter (and back in the day you had to discover the special moves for yourself) but this game that's so loved by people of all ages isn't working for me?
PS I know Streetfighter II is very different to Smash Bros in many ways but I felt that there would be some transferable skills.
I'm realizing now you can't play Squad Strike online. Why? That seems amazingly stupid to leave that option out of online multiplayer. I can't even set up a private online match with Squad Strike.
I'm sorry but this game is not Ultimate. It's good but there are too many things about it that are lacking. I give it a 9.
@Varkster lol! "Nintendo ruined it! I wanted to be surprised that Sonic and falco where in it but they posted that stupid mural and told me everyone is here... Why buy it then?"
@CdrJameson i don't really think of smash as a fighting game. I know it's fgc and main stage Evo.... But it's not reallya fighting game, it's kind of it's own thing having more in common, in some ways, work Bayonetta and dmc than sf2. You definitely needa different mindset...
@CdrJameson It sounds like you're trying too hard to be good at it right away. Skill comes with experience. Smash can be as casual or as hardcore an experience as you want it to be, so it'd probably be best to go slow with it, try out a variety of fighters, and find a few that you jive with particularly well. Enjoy the silly fights. Listen to the music. Just engage with it with the intent of having fun. Dial down the difficulty if you need to.
Currently Playing: Metroid Prime 4: Beyond (NS2); Corpse Factory (PC)
@AlternateButtons Dude that's awesome! I'm glad to hear you got it after all!
So as for myself, it just finally clicked with me. I was playing against the Geno spirit battle, and was thinking about how awesome it was fighting the whole SMRPG cast. And then I realized, that's what Everyone is Here truly means. You can fight... basically EVERYONE in this game people have asked for (short of rights issues).
Of course, some battle feel more like I'm actually facing an opponent than others, but still.
@SuperWeird Ultimate doesn’t mean perfect or 10/10. It’s just supposed to be the game with every single fighter and more.
There’s a battle arena online, that’s the closest you can get to a private online match.

Picked this up earlier today at Wal-Mart while doing my grocery shopping.
It's been fun so far. Played a few basic "Smash" matches, and did the obligatory first run through of "Classic" with Mario, but have mostly spent my time on the "Spirit Board" & "World of Light".
Now I've just got to figure out how to juggle my time between my Switch & PS4 (still working on Yakuza Kiwami), lol.
Currently Playing:
Switch - Blade Strangers
PS4 - Kingdom Hearts III, Tetris Effect (VR)
@antdickens Will there be a “Guide” for beginners of Smash? There’s quite a few newcomers that are feeling a struggle and it may help, rather than sifting the forum thread for tips from us vets
Uhm. Iggy with high winds... Even with wind resistance spirit...... That battle is almost as bs as bayo. You need to jump but he punishes every time you do. And you can't approach without him countering but it's impossible against the winds. Got close twice, but no.... No idea how to win that one for now
@PolarExperience I seem to recall in Smash for Wii U we could have private online 1v1 battles and bring a CPU partner along for 2v2 matches. You can't do this with Ultimate. If this is really the ultimate version of Smash I expect more online features added, not taken away.
Edit: for example with the Wii U, I could take my Mii Brawler and Pac-Man online together and we could fight as a team. Ultimate Smash removed this option. Now I can only fight alone in 1v1 online matches.
