All the new characters except Incineroar, Daisy, Richter and Ken felt like high 2015 Smash Ballot picks. Incineroar didn't exist back when the ballot happened and the other 3 are Echo Fighters.
People can make up whatever rules, justifications and counterpoints they want for characters in Smash. It doesn’t really matter considering the Smash devs are the ones who decide who gets in or not, and they probably just choose whoever they find is cool or demanded enough.
Given the release timing of Piranha Plant...dare I say development started right after the E3 Waluigi backlash?
Just saying...
Anyway for Smash 6, safw to say the most demanded picks will be Shadow, Isaac and Waluigi. Historically the most demanded fighters are the next in the popularity list who didnt get in last time.
Now Playing: Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart, Crash Bandicoot 4
I'm glad to see Petey will be the final smash.... But imagine just how cool Naval Piranha would've been, covering the screen with snake-like vines filled with thorns and little piranha buds lunging at the victim.
Finish with Naval eating the screen like a rattlesnake attacking the camera.
Falls in line with additions like Mr. Game & Watch, R.O.B., Wii Fit Trainer and Duckhunt Dog. Feels like Sakurai pulls one oddball choice from a big bowl of strange characters and runs with it.
And lol, Ridley having haters. I always thought the "RIDLEY IS TOO BIG" thing was a meme and everybody rolled with it. Ridley getting in was great. In regards to demand, I'm glad Isaac is only in as an assist trophy. I know there are several people who adore the Golden Sun games, but I never had that click with the series and I find Isaac to be bland. But maybe I'm strange.
I remember going in hard when discussing Smash additions during the initial Smash Wii U talks and I got my three top picks (Little Mac, Shulk and Mega Man) and I got blasted for asking for Mega Man, it will never happen. Ha, that was great.
I'm 95% certain they really wanted Petey Piranha specifically as a playable character (especially considering his role in Subspace) but then realized a Piranha Plant would give it way more options as a fighter and have much more history in Nintendo then "that one boss from that Mario game people still pretend is as good as 64 or Galaxy"
I'But imagine just how cool Naval Piranha would've been, covering the screen with snake-like vines filled with thorns and little piranha buds lunging at the victim.
Bonus points if it then turned into Lava Piranha. DEEPEST LORE
Oh, those sites Honestly the three of them are as always vocal minorities and I think in the grand scheme of things they weren’t as important.
And regarding Piranha Plant, I tend to agree with the whole series argument, but calling Waluigi a fan favourite is stretching it. I have always seen the whole Waluigi obsession as some strange movement promoting... nothing. Honestly I prefer PP over Waluigi anytime. He’s the fighter I never knew I wanted.
I just pre-ordered this today! So here's the thing, I'm a pretty good gamer except when it comes to fighting games. When it comes to fighting games, I am butt. Something with them just doesn't click with me. But this looks really fun and I wanna put some effort into at least becoming average lol.
So any advice for someone who plays a lot of games but is just starting out in Smash Bros?
@MilkBone it’s okay, I’m mediocre at modern fighting games. (Love some SF2, tho) But Smash is a different beast. If you play to enjoy it, you’re not gonna care if you’re not uber good. But sometimes I play against a few higher level computer players to get better at dodging.

@MilkBone maybe for an hour to get used to the buttons. then play around and find a couple favorites.
The cool thing about Ultimate is that your roster starts small, like N64.

Looking closer at the Direct, the Spirits Board is separate from World of Light meaning that Spirits mode has longevity even after you've got 100% on World of Light.
If you look at the Spirit Battles in World of Light, there's no timer underneath the stage before you fight. Meanwhile with the Spirit Battles earlier in the Direct there's a timer which suggests the Spirit Board gets replaced with new spirits after the time runs out. Possibly updates could add extra spirits given this too.
