I just pre-ordered this today! So here's the thing, I'm a pretty good gamer except when it comes to fighting games. When it comes to fighting games, I am butt. Something with them just doesn't click with me. But this looks really fun and I wanna put some effort into at least becoming average lol.

So any advice for someone who plays a lot of games but is just starting out in Smash Bros?

@MilkBone it’s okay, I’m mediocre at modern fighting games. (Love some SF2, tho) But Smash is a different beast. If you play to enjoy it, you’re not gonna care if you’re not uber good. But sometimes I play against a few higher level computer players to get better at dodging.

@HobbitGamer Would you recommend playing with just one character to get good with that character?

There is probably a handful of outfits we still don't know about, besides that panel de pon outfit, we got these 3

Seeing Waluigi is not in the game, I’d say the opposite.

Anyway, don’t worry about fighting games and their difficulty. As a casual Smash player its fun to try al sorts fighters and just go with it.

@MilkBone I'd say the opposite! Part of the fun of Smash is trying out all of the different characters.

@MilkBone maybe for an hour to get used to the buttons. then play around and find a couple favorites.
The cool thing about Ultimate is that your roster starts small, like N64.

Looking closer at the Direct, the Spirits Board is separate from World of Light meaning that Spirits mode has longevity even after you've got 100% on World of Light.

If you look at the Spirit Battles in World of Light, there's no timer underneath the stage before you fight. Meanwhile with the Spirit Battles earlier in the Direct there's a timer which suggests the Spirit Board gets replaced with new spirits after the time runs out. Possibly updates could add extra spirits given this too.

Can spirit's become dlc characters yes or no your opinions my peeps.

@Marioracer While I think all DLC will be 3rd party, so they won't have spirits, neither Mii Costumes nor Spirits deconfirm characters as playable. After all, there's both Mii Costumes and Spirits for playable characters in the base game.

The most agreed upon opinion seems to be that Spirits can still become DLC fighters. K Rool and Palutena both have alt designs that appear as Spirits, so if Sakurai and Nintendo want a character in the game as DLC, it isn't impossible if they were originally in the base game as a Spirit.

To add on to this, Spirits are basically trophies, and Mewtwo and Lucas were both trophies in Smash 4 yet became fighters later down the line as DLC.

Daisy is also both a spirit and a playable character. Spirits do not deconfirm characters.

@Deku-Scrub Yeah, but they added Mewtwo and Lucas as DLC out of weirdness. Mewtwo was cut from Brawl after playable in Melee, and Lucas was cut from 4 after playable in Brawl. Grrrr. Ness took a gunshot for you, Lucas!!!

To be fair, all of the roster could potentially be spirits in some form.

Male Wii Fit Trainer has also been spotted as a spirit. So yeah, it doesn't deconfirm characters.

@HobbitGamer Doesn't matter. Mewtwo was already under works before release of the game remember, so if him being a trophy was an issue, they would have removed it before release.

All playable characters had at least three trophies of themselves. Most had many many more.

So, I for one am super hyped for world of light and was wondering what you guys thought of it. I thought the reveal trailer was both Epic and at times hilarious (Wii Fit Trainer and Solid Snake!) and the mode itself looks huge and a lot of fun!
