So, the Arcade version SF III series has NO way to play as Gill ?

@Anti-Matter I'm not sure if you misread my post... To my knowledge the IS a way to play as Gill in SFIII: do what I said in the post above. If you're asking if you can just select Gill from the character select screen... I think you need to remember these are arcade "perfect" ports. They're not going to go in and actually change the game's ROM. And I imagine it would present biiiig problems with the arcade version of the game if you could pick Gill right from the character select screen because he is a ridiculously OP character.

But you can still play as Akuma in SSF2T and he's also way overpowered and banned from tournament play. I don't really see how it would be that big of a problem, of course I don't see why it would have been a problem to have included alpha 3 upper with its fleshed out roster. (Especially with all the versions of 2 and 3 on there it's really unjustifiable)

I want to ask about SF Alpha 3 for SF 30th Anniversary.
Is the Dramatic Battle same as PS1 version ?
I mean, you can play as Juni & Juli / Ryu & Ken, etc.

@GameOtaku I understand the sentiment. I personally think Gill is waaay worse than Akuma though. It's really a complaint that should have been made to the Capcom team back in 1998 though. They made a balance decision to not included that in the arcade game 20 years ago, and now it's a moot point as these are emulations of the arcade games.

I've not tried it myself and I don't want to say wrong but I've heard it requires a cheat put in and only ryu/Ken Juni/Juli (who also req a cheat) have a full Dramatic battle experience.

The version on SF collection on PS2 had it so you could play as Gil as an unlockable.

@GameOtaku Those were "arranged" versions or ports of the games not straight emulations of the arcade ROMs.

Any recommended characters to start with for a newcomer to Alpha 3 and 3rd Strike?

E.g. Easiest moves to pull off, overpowered if necessary to give me a chance 😂

Alpha 3 : Chun Li, E.Honda, Cammy, Juli, Rolento, Blanka.

3rd Strike : Chun Li, Elena, Yun, Yang

Ken, Ryu all games are the easiest to pick up and play.

Yeah, sorry. I know they are a given. Along with Sagat. I'm familiar with STREET FIGHTER II roster up until the Alpha games.

They are Too common.
Sometimes i play as Sakura or Sean instead.
Sakura was Ryu's fan, Sean was Ken's pupil.

@Anti-Matter Yes I agree. Everyone plays as RYU and KEN. Boring. They are also so overpowered.

Not just only overpowered, but the clones (Evil Ryu, Akuma, Shin Akuma)
They are Cookie cutters with different looking.

On a slightly unrelated note of you wanna talk OP I played Killer Instinct on gameboy my first ever fighting game and I completed it using just Glacius punches by just mashing it over and over no specials or anything just walk up and rapid punch.

@Lroy Akuma's my man.I used him in Alpha 2 back in the day so he was the first guy i turned to and he's as good as I remember.

I'm currently Top 50 on Switch 3RD Strike boards, and learning. If anyone is down for matches, hit me up. Will train scrubs for fun!
