@CaleBoi25 hey, thanks for noticing! The tryout went well I think. It was a bit difficult to find my footing, and I’m not so sure that it’s a good fit for me in terms of communication, but I plan to give them a second chance just to make sure what I’m feeling is accurate. This particular team felt almost too casual for me, and while we seemed to get along fine in the server, I didn’t quite feel that way completely in the voice call. I’m going to wait until the first team either offers me a place on the team, or politely declines before I make my decision though. If nothing else, at least I made A+.
@AccessibleDaydream Sorry to hear you had some issues this time around. Hopefully one of the teams works out for you! And congrats on A+! We are now equally ranked! XD
@CaleBoi25 the first team that I tried out for last week just let me know that I didn’t make the team, but I’m apparently welcome to stay around as a free agent substitute.
I know it’s not the end of the world, but it still really, really hurts. On one hand, it’s probably standard procedure for a lot of teams. On the other hand, it’s difficult to open up and try my best to be myself, only to be told that it’s essentially not good enough for them, that I (or at least my current level of play) am not good enough for them.
There’s still the other team, but again, the communication was a bit weird, and I’m not even sure how I would feel about being accepted as a fifth, and since there were two of us trying out for that team, it would certainly be either me or the other tryout put in that fifth spot, and, well, my confidence in myself is not exactly sky high at the moment, though that is also being caused by external (to this situation) factors.
@AccessibleDaydream Oh, no! So sorry to hear they denied you. I hope you don't give up, tho! The right team is out there somewhere!
Also, I made S Rank! I got 2 wins, then 2 losses... I probably should have stopped, because I was definitely tilted after having a teamate throw in the 4th match, but I went ahead and tried for the last game. The other team capped Zone and held it all the way to 3 before we took it. Then it was a back-and-forth until finally we managed to KO them. So now on to S+ !
@CaleBoi25 Yay!!! Good job Cale! 2-2 in a rank up is so stressful, but you made that third game a W, and that’s what counts! I need to start grinding solo queue again, thanks for the reminder!
As for the whole team thing, it took an unexpected turn last night: the third “looking for team” post I had responded to got a response list week, and I had been hesitating on it over the weekend for various reasons. Ultimately though, I ended up playing open with the captain in voice chat for a bit, and now I’m a 5th for Soul Sociecty as a dedicated support player, which, if nothing else, is just free results!
@CaleBoi25 oh Cale, do I have a story for you! I'm going to copy and paste what I sent to a server in which I'm just part of the community:
Update on the team situation: I had gotten a message back from a looking-for-team post I replied to, and I spent the last few days telling the captain that I was hesitant, but I didn’t know why at the time. Fear forward to last night, and I had just gotten off of vc with my coach, and I figured it wouldn’t hurt to play a few matches with this team captain, and it was fine, and I actually quite liked how relatively vocal he was, so I decided I’d give the team a try, even if for nothing else but free results.
So I agree it to try it, except it turned out that I was going to be a fifth (first red flag). It also turns out that they have two teams under one team (?), all in one server (second red flag). Then, completely by accident, I joined the vc/stream of the coach (for a different team) that they brought in to help the team. We talked for two-and-a-half hours about a wide range of topics, however pertinent to this conversation are the two VOD reviews he showed me:
in the first one, the comp was literally a painbrush, an octobrush, a gray zap, and a hydra (third red flag)
In the second one, I don’t recall the comp, but their team was in disad during a specific frame in a match of clams on Flounder, and in spite of being in disad, their “Wellstring* was pushing forward in the same way that a frontline would.
So that’s a whole mess, and I’m pretty sure I can do much, much better than to settle for that
@AccessibleDaydream Oh, yikes. Yeah, probably best to avoid that situation lol! If worst comes to worst, maybe we can start a team! /hj (I do have a few friends who might be interested, at least to try out some games in Open...!)
@CaleBoi25 I would be down to see how the vibes are, especially so if the second team I tried out for doesn’t take me on (even if they do, anarchy would be fun!)
I’m supposed to find out tomorrow, so once again, we’ll wait and see!
@AccessibleDaydream Good luck! Also, a bit late t do this, but this is a really good vid for finding a team. (Still sad about everything going on with Gem, but that doesn't mean his content is bad!)
@CaleBoi25 I MADE THE SECOND TEAM! For real this time, with no weird cruft, I was accepted as a member of Data Breach! And, in a nice twist, I’m not a fifth, I’m actually a fourth! This of course means that I’m part of the main squad!
In a completely seperate chain of events, I played a series today, and I made out with a net positive 59 points! (130 spent, 189 gained back).
That’s not even all, because immediately after that series, I played one last open match of rainmaker on Mahi-Mahi, where this happened, and I was left speechless:
