@BenAV I have great wifi and still get communication errors in splatoon. Sadly, I think the problem is more with nintendo's servers than you're wifi.

@BingleyBongley It's not so much the communications that are the problem. More the extreme lag that makes the game basically unplayable and the regular 'the connection is unstable' messages that leave me just standing there for a few seconds.

@BingleyBongley @BenAV
I have a pretty stable Internet connection. It's cable internet, so the ping is a little higher than a phone line connection. Lag is normal and I barely dc myself. 95% of the time are other people that dc.
Though the Test Fire was horrible. Until I power cycled my router. 😅

@Budda Lag is normal but the degree of lag can vary quite a bit. Sometimes it's basically fine but when it gets really bad, most of my hits don't seem to register and I can't track other players properly.

Finally clawed myself back up to S+ after what feels like the millionth attempt at breaking thorough the ‘rank up’ trial. On at least three occasions I’d sweep through Anarchy Series 5-0 only to lose the following trial by 2-3 or similar.

X Battles are back, and so are randomised teams for every match, and hopefully a slightly more even playing field. It could be my imagination, but the skill range in seems absolutely all over the place in S — especially near the beginning of the season. Find a decent team and you can sweep a series pretty easily. Get matched with potatoes and you’ve got an uphill battle. X won’t be any easier, but I hope it’ll at least feel better balanced.

@Maxz Nice one. I got lucky and won my rank up in only two tries this time around.

I've always found that to be a bit of a problem with Anarchy (Series). You either find a strong team and sweep the series or just stuck in matchmaking hell where you're the one getting swept by said strong teams that are sticking together. It was a terrible idea, not sure why they did it that way.

Salmon Run training needs to teach that you can shoot down drizzler missiles. That's the number one weakness of playing with SR newbs, and it's such an easy thing to address. I hope today, some of my newb teammates noticed I was shooting drizzler missiles.

Got my copy of splatoon 2 almost a month before they said it'd arrive — but in japanese. Anyone know a way to change the language? Haven't finished story mode yet and will definitely be getting octo expansion. While 3's is probably the best story mode, my favourite so far is 2's. I just didn't like a lot of levels in 3 (absolutely hated a compulsive collectors paradise).

I'm really not crazy about the current Salmon Run weapons. (slosher, charger, splatling, tenta brella) I can't stand how slow tenta brella shoots. Can't wait for better painting/shooter weapons.

@BingleyBongley Maybe your Splatoon 2 game card doesn't have english on it. Some asian sourced game cards omitted english language.

Have you connected your switch to the internet? I think english laungage pack should automatically download if your switch is connected to internet. (assuming you want english). If it doesn't, I think if you can open the Splatoon 2 page on eshop and there may be an option to download english langage pack from there.

If needed, you can call nintendo support if you don't want to wait for responses in here.

@WoomyNNYes The region thing says Canada(french) but I don't see anywhere to download the english/french translation.

If I get octo expansion, will it also be in japanese?

@BingleyBongley Octo Expansion is DLC. The Octo Expansion language will match whatever Splatoon 2 already displays.

You can use ninetndo support for help, too, if you want. Canada and US both use Nintendo of America for support. They have a chat messenger and a phone line. If the phone number only displays on the contact page when they are open.

@BingleyBongley Unfortunately Splatoon 2 was one of the (very) few first-party Switch games to get regional releases with region specific language options…

On the UK Nintendo store, the Supported Languages section at the bottom lists “English, Spanish, French, German, Italian, Dutch, Russian” (note the lack of Japanese). On the US store the US store that list shrinks to just “English, French, Spanish”. On the Japanese store, it’s just… “日本語” (Japanese).

Compare that to Splatoon 3’s product page, which on every region’s store lists Supported Languages as “Dutch, English, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Russian, Simplified Chinese, Spanish, Traditional Chinese”.

The EUR, USA, and JPN version of Splatoon 2 are essentially tested as entirely different games.

Oh that sucks. Does that mean that if I buy octo expansion off the eshop I won't be able to play it? If so is there a way to buy the japanese version? Don't really care about dialogue and don't feel inclined to buy another copy.

@BingleyBongley Short answer, I don't think you should use the japanese Splatoon 2.

If you keep the japanease Splatoon 2, then you'd have to buy Octo Exp DLC from japanese eshop. If game & dlc don't match, you probably can't even access the DLC after it's purchased. So, you'll probably be throwing money away.

In Octo Expansion, the subway stages all tell you what your goal is to complete the stage. If you can't read the language, you'll be screwed in plenty of places.

I think you need a version of Splatoon 2 that you can read.

Sorry about your situation there.<3

A friend of mine ended up out purchasing Octo Expansion from a region that didn’t match his game and — after a long series of emails with someone at Nintendo — ended up getting a refund.

…But I wouldn’t recommend it. You COULD make a Japanese eShop account and then fill it with yen (which I believe would either require a Japanese bank account or Japanese eShop vouchers) which would allow you to purchase the Japanese language version of the Octo Expansion, but… I think tracking down an English copy of Spa2n might be easier!
