@OorWullie Thanks for the info, didn't know that. Kelp and Blackbelly wouldn't be my first picks either, but I don't hate either of them. Flounder Heights, Bluefin Depot, and Camp Triggerfish are the stages that I would like to see return the most.

And I think Moray Towers still has two zones, actually. The zones are just really close together. I haven't thought about Moray being the only stage with more than one zone... but that is quite disappointing. I hope they keep the zones in Blackbelly the same too, and not turn it into a single zone. I think it would be too close to Kelp Dome's splat zone layout then.

I am glad they changed Port Mackerel into only having one zone, though. Never liked the layout of two zones for it in the original.

I have to avoid playing this game late at night. My last 2 sessions have went onto 3:30 in the morning. I'm too old for this lol. I keep saying just one more then I get frustrated and have to do better next game.

My usual long-range weapons weren't cutting it in Splat Zones, so I decided to mix it up and try the Carbon Roller. Good decision - it took me from the bottom of B+ to near the top of A-, despite a lack of practical roller experience. Using my double XP ticket beforehand was a good decision too! And Autobombs are more useful than I'd initially given them credit for, especially for dealing with snipers.

I suspect people will tell me I should use the Octobrush instead, but I'm a raging nonconformist when it comes to these things, so whatever.

@OorWullie Moray Towers is actually still two zones, but they're right next to each other. I liked Splat Zones on the old Port Mackerel too. I used to totally dominate that with the Squiffer... which is another thing we're missing. Although my Ink Mine strats are pretty much dead regardless.

I have to agree that this game is seriously addictive, but I can't play long sessions in one sitting... Just had a good winning streak, 5 games in a row with getting freshness bonus. Can someone explain how extra xp thing works because I haven't had Wii U or played the first one... Oh and if anyone wants to add me feel free to! would like to play some Salmon run coop with vc 🎉

@BLP_Software Apologies, never thought about that.

I didn't realise it's 2 zones on Moray. Even though they're right next to each other at least it shows double zones haven't been scrapped.

Yep, I can confirm that there are 2 zones in Moray Towers. Both of them have to be in your ink color before
the timer starts counting down. Just like in the first game.

I'm liking the Splat Brella so far. I'm using abilities that reduce the amount of ink used by the Sprinkler and the Splat Brella itself. The Sprinkler's not only useful for inking the area but for providing a distraction for enemies (while the enemies are trying to destroy the Sprinkler you could use the opportunity to splat him/her. The Splat Brella has some decent damage). I don't like how easy it is for the Brella shield to break, however.... once it breaks in battle you're easily the biggest target for the enemies.

God first.

@Zyrac As a self-proclaimed roller main myself, I certainly wouldn't say that the inkbrushes are better. XD An ambushing carbon/splat roller is one of the most effective killers in this game, if played correctly. Ninja Squid and either Stealth Jump or Drop Roller should really help with an ambushing playstyle, I can't recommend them enough. Swim Speed up and Main Saver are also pretty nifty.

(Yes, I am trying to convince you to be a roller main. Come join the ambush side, we're always "on a roll")

Puns aside, Inkbrushes are pretty much the only opponent you'll want to vertical flick. (That and walls) They're the only thing you aren't guaranteed to beat at short range. Rollers too, I guess, but roller v roller generally ends with both dead.

With the Carbon, one useful trick is to throw the autobomb behind an opponent, forcing them closer, and into your flick. It's a pretty handy trap for an unsuspecting shooter. (Sorry if I'm repeating stuff you already know, you seem to have the basics already nailed)

I'll also make a personal plug and say you should also try out the splatroller. The longer you hold down R, the shorter the distance a curling bomb goes, which can lead to some excellent short range splats. (In an ambusher playstyle. In a firefight, never pull out the curlers, they'll just absorb your ink reserve)

Today I proved it is possible to get into S rank in all three ranked modes using A, the Splatroller only, and B, sticks, no motion controls. I find the motion controls to be a tad finicky using a roller, leading to occasions where you're sure you should've killed them, but haven't, because the motion controls flick a little too high, causing too much dropoff, so I have them disabled for roller play.

EDIT: Wow, that post was long. I only meant to write a few quick tips... Sorry... ">_<

@TheXReturns Heh, thanks for the tips. I'm running Ninja Squid already, but Drop Roller is an interesting idea. I'll give that a try. I'm not about to convert to full-time roller main, but the Carbon is definitely in my arsenal now. It'll be my go-to Splat Zones weapon, at least.

As for the brush comparison, the Octobrush just seems like a more popular weapon for ranked that does basically the same stuff, including having the same sub. But you're right that it's not necessarily better.

So, against all expectations, I made it to S+ in Tower Control, only to find that S+ sort of doesn't exist as a rank! At least not in form I expected. Instead of there just being a single, comprehensive S+ rank, I hit rank 'S+0'. I did a little research, and it seems you can keep pushing through the ranks all the way so rank S+50.

It came as a bit of a shock, as I was feeling super proud about hitting 'the highest rank in the game', and then it was like, okay, here's 50 more ranks for you, off you go! My completionist tendencies were struggling to comprehend the new task they'd just been set. It was hard enough getting from C- to S, and now there are 51 extra ranks to push through!? Aaaah!

I don't know the ins and outs of how the system works as you progress through it (apparently you can drop multiple ranks if your bar cracks), but perhaps it has some advantages over the old system. But... it was a definitely a bit of a shock.

I think I'm just going to pretend that S+ is a rank, and not really pay too much attention to the numbers. Umm... so, yay! I'm S+ at something! I am good at a video game! Just... still 50 ranks worse than the best players.

Inkbrushers seem to be the cause of most of my deaths so far in the sequel. In the original it was rollers by a long shot. My aggressive, careless play style makes me a prime target for them.

It would be good if Splatnet had that info. It lets you check your opponents gear and weapons from the last 50 battles but it's a pretty pointless feature without providing you actual stats.

Blackbelly Skate Park is one of my favorites! Still beat by Walleye Warehouse which is beat by Mahi Mahi Resort, which is beat by Arowana Mall. Blue Fin Depot and Urchin Underpass are also favorites. I'd always take a new stage, but if they must, I hope they pick these levels!

I'll also be glad to see Kelp Dome again. It's a bit challenging at times, but necessary. Rainmaker can be scary, since it is, more than other levels, the easiest for an opponent to sneak past you with another route and win scary fast. Splat Zones can be scary, too.

@BLP_Software Good point.

I think they need some more stages now. These new ones feel samey to me while the originals were all unique.

Can we please stop openly mentioning unrevealed and leaked stages and weapons so damn freely?

@OorWullie And then again in Ultra Hard Mode. And then again in Ultra Ultra Hard mode. And so on up to Ultra Ultra Ultra Ultra Ultra Ultra Ultra Ultra Ultra Ultra Ultra Ultra Ultra Ultra Ultra Ultra Ultra Ultra Ultra Ultra Ultra Ultra Ultra Ultra Ultra Ultra Ultra Ultra Ultra Ultra Ultra Ultra Ultra Ultra Ultra Ultra Ultra Ultra Ultra Ultra Ultra Ultra Ultra Hard Mode.

But seriously, it's kind of impressive that a game can get you to a rank called S freakin' PLUS, only to make you feel like you're on the bottom rung of the ladder. You thought A was the highest? Well meet A+. It's like A, but more. That not enough for you? How about S? Because you're super. But push any higher and you'll be S+... ZERO! We hope you enjoyed your time feeling princely with S, because now you're bottom of the food chain. You are ZERO. You are NOTHING!

My feels right now.

Meanwhile I'm sitting way down here at A, feeling accomplished, yet looking way up at that tall tower. Lol

Anyone here fans of Frasier? This reminds of the episode where they finally find their way into the ultra secret exclusive Spa, only to find that there is a door only for Gold members. They find a way through eventually, experiencing bliss, until they see a door labeled Platinum. And every time they find a door, suddenly the room they're sitting in loses all of its luster.

@Maxz Well, if you do think about it, it's just like starting from S+ 0 and getting to S+ 99 in the first game. Except this time it's really gonna take a long time. Except if you're some demi-god of Splatoon.
Right now I'm in S+0 for Rainmaker, but it's a race between the cracks and the progress itself, and they are neck-and-neck with each other as I type this. Thankfully I'm safe so if the cracks win (I hope not), I can get to start S+0 all over again instead of the game throwing me back to rank A.... something I really like about the new ranking system.

After binging this game non stop for the past week, I can say it's extremely fun. I suck at ranked battles still, but turf war is where it's at.

Still though, I'm getting kind of tired of these stages. The map rotation is really becoming more and more apparent as I get bored of certain stages

Was one win from ranking up in S+0, but we had a disconnect around 2 minutes in I think. Still managed to hold our own for the duration of the match, but we weren't able to gain a lead and my bar reset below the ok line
I think the way the game decides if you should be punished for losing a match with disconnects still needs to be reworked. It may be a bit difficult to determine if it would make a difference at times, but a disconnect can almost always lead to defeat at any point in a match.
