I'm a lifelong gamer and have been mostly a Sony guy for the last three generations of consoles, but a few months ago I decided to sell my PS4 and PSVR setup. It had been collecting dust for months, and I was starting to get in arguments with my kids about who got to use the Switch next. I just could not get myself to care about playing the PS4. It started feeling like a chore I didn't want to do. Long story short, I decided it was time for me to have my own Switch.

I started with Mario Odyssey and fell in love with it instantly. Moved on to Luigi's Mansion 3 next, then Breath of the Wild, and so on and so on. Every single first party game I put in the machine just had me grinning from ear to ear. As the coronavirus crisis intensified, I just kept burning through game after game after game. I have REALLY been enjoying myself with the Switch and haven't skipped playing it for one day since I got it.

I will say that I have been a little worried that I made a bad decision jumping in with Switch at a time when PS5 and Xbox Whatever It's Called are about to come out. After what I saw from Sony yesterday, my worries melted.

I know many of us think Nintendo needs to get better at online (they do) and that they should release a Switch Pro that can do 4K, or at least higher res than the current Switch (I'd buy one), or that they need to announce some more 2020 games soon before we all go nuts (yes please), but my god, I'm so happy with my Switch. It's made me love gaming again.

This is the first Nintendo hardware I've owned since the SNES and it's great to feel that old Nintendo magic come back again. Playstation and Xbox are not where it's at for me anymore.

@spiderman0616 yes I only got back into gaming 2 years ago, it had been nearly 14 years since I bought any game or console, I thought I would let the good games build up then buy them like I bought all the light gun games for the Wii.the ps and Xbox games haven't really looked great. your spot on..

I've not seen a must buy game on PS5 yet, So at the moment the Xbox has the edge for me. Hellblade 2, is the only game that I really want to play on the Xbox so far.

That said the game that convinced me to get a Switch was Bayonetta 3 and I'm still waiting...

@spiderman0616
Just buy PS5 if you really have interest with the games.
No need to feel guilty.
More machines = more choices = merrier.
You can wait at least 2 - 3 years before buying PS5 to see what games has been released until 3 years later and what kind of issues from PS5 first model. Take your time and have fun with your current machines right now while keep your eyes on PS5 news.

I get that feeling and I’m glad to see you enjoy it so much.

For me, I actually really love a lot of the games that are on PS, My issue is, once you grow accustomed to hybrid gaming, it’s hard to go back to the restrictive TV only setup, and once you grow accustomed to aiming with analog stick + gyro to fine tune, it’s hard to go back to the barbarous relic of dual-analog-only aiming. Which unfortunately, Switch offers both and PS/Xbox offer neither.

But that doesn’t mean I want to miss out on the games. So I’ve found PC to be the perfect supplement to Switch. It provides the same level of graphical fidelity as the new systems coming out, but unlike them, it actually has gyro aiming like Switch. Being able to play Horizon Zero Dawn, a Sony PS first party exclusive on Steam with gyro aiming? It’s revelatory. The upcoming Resident Evil Village on Steam with gyro? I refuse to play it any other way. Playing Gears of War 5, a Microsoft Xbox first party exclusive on Steam with gyro aiming? Oh man...

But I will say this. No games make me feel the pure bliss during actual gameplay like Nintendo games do. It’s why I’m such a big fan. I didn’t start out as a fan of Nintendo, I became one. Their games earned their way into my heart. And it sounds like it’s the same for you.

Just don’t write off other platforms entirely because you may find having a supplementary system is advantageous. Even if switch is your primary platform you spend most of your time on (which for me it is) Sometimes it is nice to have an alternative just in case there’s that one game you really have your eye on that, unfortunately, just can’t run on a handheld (or run well enough, anyways).

Yeah, 100% agree here. And I haven’t ruled out another console in the future, but for now, I just can’t imagine why I’d need one. I play lots of Civ VI and Apple Arcade games on my iPad Pro when I get bored of the Switch. Beyond that, I don’t need anything else at the moment.

It's also past the point where hardware specs even matters. The only reason why I even bought a PS4 was because of some exclusive games, otherwise I would have stuck to PS3. I can't see how anyone could play a Switch game and be all like "this game is alright but I gotta have more graphics".

@Agriculture the examples I can think of are split screen games. Sonic Racing for example has a pretty naff framerate and resolution when more than one person is playing. Also the reason I've never picked up Splatoon 2, is due to the lack of couch online play. The reason for that is the Switch isn't powerful enough to do it. Another example is Rock of Ages, no split screen multiplayer on the Switch compared to the PS4 which does.

I have all the consoles but rarely use my PS4 - if ever. Xbox one x is superb though - in 4K it really is a quality product for the money.

Incredibly I now have 4 - four! switches in my house - my wife and 2 daughters are crazy for animal crossing and my oldest daughter is a huge gamer who also heavily games on Xbox. Love the switch as it’s different - we don’t need another Sony/ms clone - 2 battling out in the technology race while Nintendo produce their amazing games and console experiences is great.

I will get the series x but unlikely to be an early adopter - with its backwards compatibility and game pass (which I have through end 2021 for a quid). I know I am in the vast minority but I have little to no interest in the ps5 and will almost certainly not get it

I have only ever had Nintendo consoles (NES, Gamecube, Wii + Switch) but there are a growing number of playstation exclusives I would like to play (last of us, god of war, shadow of the colossus, horizon etc) I was toying with the idea of looking for a good deal on a PS4 when the PS5 comes out, but not sure now, some of the PS5 reveal was impressive! But I had kids now and time is a luxury, I love my nintendo games and the ports we've been getting (bioshock etc) plus as stated already being able to switch between TV and handheld is amazing.

Ratchet and Clank looks amazing, there is so much going on in this game play trailer!

It's pointless to compare Nintendo with Sony and Microsoft. Nintendo is a small company who want to create and sell videogames. They don't care if EA or Rockstar don't release their games in their market and they don't pressure them to do so. If you don't want to be part of the Nintendo market then it's fine Nintendo won't try to kill your career. Look at what happened to David Perry. He was always criticizing against Nintendo and it never stopped them to become one the richest game designer of all time. Sony and Microsoft are huge megacorps who want to take control of the entire industry. And they're ready to use their huge wallet to do so. If you criticize them you can say goodbye to a successful career. Shinji Mikami and Jason Rubin can testify about that.

@glaemay - LOL! Nintendo's 2019 revenue was 11 billion dollars. They are not a "small company".

@glaemay I thinks it's perfectly fine to compare them. None of them are 'small companies. Square-Enix was pretty much shunned by nintendo for releasing ffvii on the PlayStation. The whole retro studios debacle, kinda shows it's not all sugar and lollipops at nintendo

I would love both consoles, but just can't justify with my backlog across 3ds, Switch, Xbox and Vita. Might dip in with PS5 first, but after price drop....

I have pretty much the exact same feelings as the OP. The Wii U and Switch brought me back to what I realize I like most about games: just pure, fun gameplay. Whether it's some Mario game (platforming, tennis, kart, etc.), Zelda, Splatoon, ARMS, Donkey Kong, they're just FUN to play. Even if I only have 10 minutes. Nintendo just seems to nail the fundamentals of any game they make. I remember watching an interview with Miyamoto where he said the most important part of any game he makes is: is it FUN? Is it fun to control the character? Is the gameplay loop fun? That would be my design philosophy if I were a game designer.

I still play my PS4, though. I do enjoy a good story-driven game every now and then, maybe one or two a year before I've had enough lol. I'm definitely getting Last of Us 2 because the first was so spectacular. Right now I'm near the end (I think) of God of War, which I did start to enjoy. But even then, I'm pretty much only finishing it because I like the story. The gameplay itself isn't especially inspiring or unique, and I kind of hate the same ol' formula of traveling to a conspicuously open spot, oh snap here come the totally unexpected monsters, fight them, maybe fight a boss, and then climb some walls until I get to the next conspicuously open area. Throw in a puzzle every now and then and that's pretty much it, so I'm just pushing myself from fight to fight to see the end of the story.
