Well I guess there it is, confirmation of what I thought they might have been doing here. I think it's fair to say that the JoyCon won't be quite as good as a well setup WiiMotion+ would have been for Skyward Sword.
@timleon
Pointing at the TV yes but it wouldn't have done a check to see if the sensor bar was physically plugged in. The sensor bar was just two LED points so it doesn't really "talk" to the Wii/Wii U. I guess in theory they could check it by seeing if there was any resistance on the sensor bar port but if they did then all of those "wireless sensor bars" they used to sell wouldn't have worked.

Yep my understanding is that you only need the sensor bar plugged in for power. I remember a rumour going around that your could replace it with two candles...not sure how true and/or straightforward this actually was though...
Even lamps and windows have worked for me sometimes. I don't recommend it, its really finicky and frustrating. Just sometimes I realize I forgot to plug in the sensor bar after having brought the Wii U to a friends, and I would be too lazy to get up, fetch it, and plug it in.
I loved the whole idea of a more realistic zelda and TP is basically a direct sequel to Ocarina of time!
Skyward sword had me so hyped and honestly it's a beautiful game both visually and musically! It's the first time a zelda soundtrack was orchestrated!
Wind waker was still good but i admit i was never keen on Link's design in this one. That Giant football shaped head, cat eyes and little stubby legs ugh! The cell shaded thing was fine. That never bothered me like it seemed to so many others when it was first revealed.
1. Twilight Princess
2. Skyward Sword
3. Windwaker @Zeldafan79 I wholeheartedly agree, TP was amazing, and though there were definitely long sidequests (Poe soul or golden bugs) Those felt more like they actually could be completed in that game for some reason (and I did complete them lol)
Skyward Sword had absolutely amazing music and I'm not necessarily a Zelinker but their relationship in that game was amazing
Windwaker was fun but spent too much time sailing back and forth, there were too many annoying long arduous sidequests, and yeah I've never been the biggest fan of Zelda in that art style.
Games I'm playing right now:
OoT N64
DK64 N64
Lego LotR Wii
Spirit Tracks DS
TotK Switch
I never expected them to do this, since they had to rework it for the joycons. But they did, and they even reworked it for buttons. Using the right stick for sword-swipes, makes perfect sense. I did a second run (a harder run) but stopped at the desert. Now I am willing to play the whole game again, this time with buttons. It isn't the best Zelda (super lineair) but it has its moments.
A shame to hear that the joy-cons have been difficult to get a hold of. Does anyone know if they've gone up for pre-order yet in the UK? (I've not seen them)
I honestly couldn't put a number on them, and my favourite would change on any particular day. Although I think both Wind Waker and Skyward Sword have higher highs and lower lows than Twilight Princess, which is consistently good. They all scratch a different itch for me really.
I've said this before, but Wind Waker HD is the one time where I do think the remake is such an improvement that I can't see myself going back to the original. It's not that the original is bad even now, but the sailing is too slow to enjoy in the long term. Both in the long term of a single playthrough and especially the long term of having played through the game more than once.
Also, I do always feel a bit weird saying the pandering, "realistic" (its not realistic, plz stop saying that), same old same old Zelda is the best one. But it is one of those cases where they were able to mostly perfect the Zelda formula, at the right time, and it worked out wonderfully. I also assume being a Wii launch title helped it feel novel in ways it wouldn't have otherwise.
@Silly_G
I've been checking 2-4 times a day since the direct. If any or all stores have gone on preorder already, it must have been out for only a few hours and I missed it.
Considering all the $200 ebay listings I've been seeing, I probably missed them all.
I love the motion controls and the music so much in the game, I don't even mind the fact that the story is basically Link following Zelda bread crumbs the whole time. The overworld perhaps is restrictive, but as a result it feels meaningful and rewarding to traverse as opposed to crossing an empty field. Its also a highlight in the series for unique and intricate dungeons.
2. Twilight Princess
One of the most average-feeling zelda games in my opinion, though it has the best sidekick and I like playing as wolf link. Also has fairly good dungeons, such as the zora temple, the yeti mansion one, the Temple of Time, and Castle in the Sky.
3. Wind Waker (Here's your warning: I get very critical of this game).
One of the worst in terms of dungeons; all of them are forgetable and hold your hand way too much (I know, but trust me, outside of the occasional spoiling from Fi, Skyward Sword's dungeons ask a lot more of the player). Sailing and exploring was enjoyable at first, but the magic wears off after a while, when you learn that there's 1 and only 1 island per grid space, and that a lot of these islands contain nothing cool. Some people praise the combat because it expands Link's moveset, but even with qte's and cool finisher moves, I still feel the combat becomes "press A to win" too easily. Twilight Princess executes this idea quite a bit better, I think. Plus, as an afterthought, its a real chore to replay it. I don't usually judge a game on poor replayability; its fine that a game is designed to be enjoyed fresh. But I do like to replay Zelda games, and Wind Waker is really hard to want to go back to when both dungeons and the overworld are chores. To be fair, Skyward Sword suffers from this too, its such a long game with lots of repeating scenery.
I didn't have much memory of Skyward Sword other than the second time I played it in hero mode, I noticed its linearity a bit...nothing that ruined the pace for me but playing it the second time got me a bit bored somehow.
I hope in this port, they decide to just add the Hero mode from the start like in Link's Awakening so that its more of a preference to those who want challenge and to those who don't. I know that they'd still keep the heart stone(..was it? ) so that Hero Mode still becomes obsolete...but eh...some would want it to be the same.
I'm going to pay the $60 either way, because I only played the game once at launch, and I REALLY prefer having no motion controls, but the idea that this is a reasonable price is completely and utterly mental.
Oh my god why are people complaining about the price? This thing was originally 50 dollars on a non HD console. Why wasn't anyone crying then? Considering the amount of content and value for money plus the HD upgrade and new controls I'd say you're getting a pretty sweet deal. I guess just because something is old it should automatically be half price.
The price does seem unreasonably high and if rumours are true that Wind Waker and Twilight Princess are to be packaged together, don’t know why they would personally, then that would really make this look greedy.
The thing is, we don’t know whether what has been shown and said about Skyward Sword is everything or if there’s more to be revealed. If there’s more to be revealed then maybe the price can be justified. However, if this is everything then no it’s definitely way too high.

The general conscience is that Nintendo games rarely or never drop in prices hence why the "anti-consumer" term comes up when trolls or anyone want to make complaints about Nintendo games.
In this case, several games that are remastered but are not from Nintendo are sold at lower "full prices" that seem to, unfortunately, mean that the value of a game ported is to be less than a new game.
What people don't understand however is that Nintendo games generally never get released on multiple platforms even in their own consoles as the majority of them stay exclusive. This is mostly because either bringing the games to the current consoles would require rebuilding the game from scratch since emulating the game does not become a possibility(Smash Ultimate is a good example).
As such, for porting those games, the cost also factors in. There's also that value psychology that plays a factor. If Nintendo devalues their ports, the value for the game becomes lost and would stop selling. So really, there isn't anything Nintendo can do about this other than ignoring the salty comments. I agree with you that the effort is made for the port however.
It's not often that Nintendo games drop in price. Heck Mario kart double dash on Gamecube still goes for about 40 bucks! I have noticed however that brand new big budget games on the other consoles tend to drop alot faster and I'm not really sure why. I've seen games go from 60 to 20 bucks in a matter of weeks after release on playstation and Xbox.
Zelda is one of Nintendo's biggest if not the biggest property they have. These games are never low price. Not on original release or the remakes.
