These things happen in every workplace and change over time. One managerial position leaves, replaced by another. Things will then change. Just like how things changed to this.
Such is life. You hear about all the time in movies where executives cause things to mess up, and then a simple change of management fixes things.
Hell just look at Xbox.

Yeah that's true but Retro Studios is a central key for me !
I really hope that it's not true and that Retro will bring again and again awesome games like they already did in the past.
This seems like little more than a rumor. No reason to assume the worst unless there is an official announcement. If that former employee was angry at the company when he left, he could have left a bad review to slander it. It wouldn't be the first time.

This will dampen my hopes for the Switch going forward if true. Retro has done great for Nintendo sliding right into the spot once occupied by Rare. This time there's no obvious replacement. I won't assume the worst but if it turns out to be more than a rumor... Absolutely pathetic job by Nintendo. This is why I get annoyed when people say only MS mishandles studios.
Seems kinda unlikely. A studio that's produced several AAA quality games is not just gonna randomly fail to complete a game.
If they ever got shut down it'd be AFTER a bad game. Not before releasing a game.
And also: has Nintendo ever shut down a studio they own?
@Gamer83 There is an obvious replacement actually. I'll let you work out who though.
@Dezzy Nintendo hasn't. They sold their share of RARE to Microsoft after all the talent left, but they never shut the studio down nor forced them to leave. The studio just wouldn't work out.

The only thing I can say about Retro Studios is that their games are very good, but imo the first episode both in their DKC games and in Metroid prime is extremely better than every sequel they have made, and this is not a good thing. I really appreciate a lot the work they have done, I expecially love Donkey Kong Country Returns, but considering this fact and the fact that they haven't done many new things lately I wouldn't be surprised whatever Nintendo decides to do
I used to be a ripple user like you, then I took The Arrow in the knee
As I said in another thread, what have retro done lately? The Metroid series is well over 10 years now and DKC:TF is 4 years old... You can't live on old merits forever. We have heard the mantra "retros new game", but there are actually very little proof that the current retro can manage something on that scale today. A lot can happen to a company in that timeframe.
Miyamoto stated in 2013 that retro could develop more than one title at the same time, but 5 years later we have only gotten tropical freeze. Which is an refinement from an older title.
This would be very sad news, but also not very surprising considering their low output. It really feels like the studio has been through development hell.
Who knows though, maybe they're fine. Time will tell.
I don't think the studio will close if this is true. They'll probably just re-structure.
It's just a rumor, but I fully expect the rumor is true. A studio doesn't go dark for an entire console generation, especially while they're listed as NOT the developer of the series they were previously the custodians of.
I think a LOT of people forget that a lot of key figures left Retro right before DKCTF went into production and founded Armature. Amrature is known for a lot of Vita ports, the excellent Arkham Blackgate on 3DS, Recore on X1/PC (a fantastic game showing the good old Retro charm, if a little rough in places), and the PS4/X1 port of Borderlands (amazingly Pitchford paid them (rimshot) )
Point is Retro hasn't been Retro since DKCTF started, key figures and some staff left. And unsurprisingly DKCTF is the last thing we've seen from them. I doubt that's a coincidence. I think they've been troubled since the split and are kind of where Rare was in the GCN era.
I suspect they were juggled by Nintendo to try to assist on R&D1&2 projects back in the WiiU/3DS crunch crisis and that threw off a lot of momentum in other things, coupled with the vacuum of the split and probably led to some serious breakage in the company. This post is only a rumor but it sheds an insight into things that were easy to suspect before.
