@1UP_MARIO Pianta Village is challenging and more than meets the eye but Pinna Park is a lot of fun! Noki Noki Bay is beautiful. Super Mario Sunshine soundtrack is great.

I'd probably rank them:
1. Sunshine
2. 3D World
3. Odyssey
4. 64
5. Galaxy
6. Galaxy 2
7. 3D Land

Odyssey hasn't aged that well since fully completing it in 2018, DLC would've helped it a lot.

@Ardisan thanks for posting! But for me, Sunshine felt so tedious and repetitive. Almost every shine was either a red coin mission, or a secret stage. There were hardly any original stages to Par. But compared to other Mario games, it’s the most beautiful.

I like this ranking. Super Mario Sunshine is wonderful and a remake/remaster can't come soon enough. I wonder what you didn't like about the Galaxy games because the problem in my opinion is the small planets, dizzy camera and motion controls and I wonder if you feel the same.

8. Super Mario 3D World
7. Super Mario Galaxy 2
6. Super Mario 64
5. Super Mario 3D Land
4. Super Mario Odyssey
3. Super Mario Galaxy
3. Super Mario Sunshine
1. Super Mario 64 DS

I'm impressed with how Super Mario 64 looks in its remake on the DS, and certainly was back then when I got my DS for Christmas in 2004. It was my first full game experience having a 3D game on the go, and I recall playing the game a lot that morning with my siblings who all too got the game and a Nintendo DS. I enjoyed bullying my siblings in the game's versus multiplayer transformed as Wario, putting hours into the game's mini-game content especially Wanted! and playing as the game's varied cast for a 3D Mario at the time. It has become my most replayed 3D Mario game over the years. What Luigi can do in this game takes it to another level for me as someone interested in speed running and quick progression. I've had a lot of fun testing the limits of how far his backflip can take me.

@I-U thank you for responding! May i ask why 3D world is so low? I thought it was pretty good, but I respect your opinion. Nice list otherwise!

@LetsaGO thank you for posting! I’m glad you like Mario 64. Even if it doesn’t hold well now, it was still a pretty ok game.

A lot like Galaxy 2, I felt like 3D World didn't understand why its predecessor was so good. 3D Land to me is amazing in part due to being on a portable system. At the time, I considered 3D Land to be the evolution of the NSMB series on the 3DS since it is a marriage of that gameplay with 3D space. The game to me was clean and it wasn't trying to do anything more than showing how well 2D and 3D Mario could merge.

3D World came out in 2013 after 3D Land, NSMB 2 and NSMB U. Being on the Wii U console, I expected more than a 3D Land sequel for a 3D Mario outing. I did want to play the game though as it was advertising levels laid out on full world maps. Something I wanted to see after 3D Land was a continuation that offered themed levels and worlds, truly be more like NSMB in 3D space. I thought that would be what I would be getting from 3D World, but the actual game is a thematic mess.

It took me longer than it should have to beat 3D World. Levels were fun at times, but I could never fully get into the game with how scattered it was. The story wasn't pulling me in either and the Super Bell power-up hook didn't open up the game enough for me to really care that much about designs in the game. It reminded me of the Mario games I had played in previous years just executing worse than all of them.

I would consider revisiting the game if it comes to the Switch. I typically like to play my Switch outside of the dock, and that portable experience I feel fits 3D World much better than its original platform. I also feel it's a nice game to contrast with Odyssey on the Switch or just make a sequel to 3D World that would be better.
