@Snatcher
The trainer outfit design looked like Primary school student outfits in Mediterranean area.

Let's hope the catching and battle mechanics are similar to Legends Arceus, without loading transitions between battles, and the ability to throw Pokeballs to attempt to catch Pokémon.

If these games don't have that mechanic, so you can't throw Pokeballs to catch them, and you have to go into a separate battle screen for each one, that could suck away a lot of my hype. I'll wait to see it before fully passing judgement, of course, but I'm struggling to see how this game would be anywhere near as fun without those crucial mechanics integrated.

@JaxonH I feel like they're going to make it to where battles happen in the overworld, but you'll have to engage in a pokemon battle in order to catch the pokemon. I doubt you'll be rolling around and dodging pokemon attacks while trying to catch one.

@VoidofLight
I think I'd be OK with that, provided the battles don't have load screens and take place with a seamless transition.

But it would be a crying shame if you can't throw Pokeballs to try and catch Pokémon in some capacity.

I generally go with Grass and Water starters, with the only Fire one being Tepig, but man I really like this new fire starter.

@Fizza : They'll call it RedFeraligatrmon.

The Scarlet name was coincidentally have ever been used by hackers for hacked Pokemon games.

It happens. I released an unfinished Pokémon Gold hack back in 2002 called Pokémon Colosseum before the GameCube game of the same name released 2 years later.

@Anti-Matter At long last, the true water starter.

Actually @Silly_G the names for these Pokémon games remind me of a leak I saw a few years back, it was fake of course but the banner for the names look so familiar, I will have to look into this.

@Fizza : I was alluding to the fact that there are many Digimon that are mere palette swaps of existing designs (with fittingly unimaginative names), like BlackGatomon, BlackAgumon, BlueMeramon etc.

In Digimon Cyber Sleuth, there was a particularly amusing evolutionary line, where Gotsumon evolves into Icemon, which was just a palette swap, who then evolves into Meteormon, another palette swap.

Who says Pokémon are lazy?

@Silly_G I don't care too much for Digimon myself but I do have a history with palette swaps (Yo-Kai Watch started the alternate skins fomo of mine).
But yeah, every single Pokemon is so unique in it's inspirations. For example, have you seen what Orbeetle's based on? Here's a really good video that shows it off (hint: it's not just a ladybug):

(I live for these types of videos btw, it's probably my favourite genre on Youtube: incredibly detailed trivia about seemingly simple things)

@Silly_G Well, while some Digimon are just variants, there's already more than 1400 of them. Personally I like them, specially since they vary in element, type (vaccine,data, virus), behaviour and even evolution possibilities. I love both franchises but design-wise I always enjoyed Digimon a bit more.

So, back on the main topic: I just saw the trailer and frankly these games look promising. Honestly as long as they have a bit more of a challenge and an interesting world to explore I'm sold. That's my main gripe with the series. and it's simply solved by having actual interesting places to explore and things to dicover. It baffles me that the caves in Sword and Shield were way smaller and linear. Open areas are great, but it;s the small locations and secrets that matter for me the most so I hope that towns, caves, buildings, etc are engaging to explore and that there's many optional places that you can miss if you don't explore properly.

The Pokémon in Scarlet/Violet look substantially better than in Sword/Shield

This game may not be as graphically impressive as say, Zelda BotW, but coming from Gamefreak, I don't understand how anyone can complain about the graphics in good faith. I'm genuinely impressed here.

@JaxonH
Maybe some peoples really want a PS5 graphic style of Pokemon games and even if Gamefreak is able to make it, peoples will keep complaining again.
They are sad peoples in my opinion, never felt granted.

@Anti-Matter
I understand the graphics complaints of prior games to an extent. But at this point, the game is looking about on par with what a modern Switch game should look like. Especially if it holds a solid framerate like Arceus.

Here's another comparison between Sword/Shield and Scarlet/Violet

@X-Slayer Thanks for the recommendation, I have been considering the DLC so I might try to do that.

@JasonH People like to jump on hate trains without even informing themselves/checking things and exaggerate. I've been quite critical of the franchise myself, but I'm not blind to clear improvement and I genuinely care for the series. I've seen many "glad to see they finally released a GameCube game" comments and it makes me want to smack them.

The game does look nice in these first impressions so if it does look like that on the final product and the performance is decent/good, I'll be happy.
