@Dom_31 Thanks for that man! Just tested out Palafin and oh my god I love them (my superhero bias is greatly showing XD). The fact that the transformation happens when you switch out a la Clark Kent in the phone booth is also brilliant.

The section after the credits roll was kinda whatever for me, I am not inherently against replaying the gyms again, I swear you do this in every game? At least the modern one? But my God, it was laughably easy all the way through.
If you take out the exploration I did in between, I think I blew out all harder versions of the gym leaders in less than half an hour. Even Larry, the toughest fight of the game for me (gym not Elite Four where he had a different team and was way easier as flying was easy to counter than normal as I barely found any fighting types, even post game), posed no challenge whatsoever the second time around. I wasn't even crazy over levelled, either. I guess the team I was running for the campaign was just bad.
It is funny because the Primera quizzes you on your experience kinda like what you get before the Elite Four, but I couldn't really answer them, this was all just an absolute blur. Taking down gyms with one Pokemon using the same move over and over until it was done.
This was then followed by one last tournament, and a second fight against the Primera - and again no challenge here at all. I blew all four of them out, including the Primera (who nearly got me during the core campaign).
In terms of post postgame stuff, I believe the game generates tournaments for you, so I guess there is a chance to see teams helmed by people you have never faced before like the teachers and apparently you unlock harder Tera Raids, but I am not much interested in doing either if there is no story to go with them.
I also think I need to finish my Final Exams as ridiculous as that sounds, but it doesn't seem like there is much point given I have finished all the content.
....it took way, WAY too long....but I finally managed to evolve my Gimmighoul. And the result? To say I was surprised would be an understatement.
This buck radiates 90's energy: the dreads, the skate/surfboard made out of coins, the chest turning into a loose belt and the completely lax and friendly attitude all combine together to make a mon absolutely oozing in personality. And as the 1000th Pokemon? I think they're a great choice.
In my second playthrough, I am now again at the last barrier to complete the paths - the Star Team Fighting Type. It is the true endboss of the game, much harder than any other battle. The champ is a piece of cake in comparison to him, honestly anything is a piece of cake in comparison to him. Its literally a team of fighting types that all have Ice Moves and other crazy stuff that completely soars through everything you can possibly have on your team up to that point.
Ice-Moves need to be removed from the game, they just completely brake everything you work for. Of course I dont really mean that, I am just raging, because all the pokemon I like are weak to ice and everyone has a pokemon with ice moves, no matter what type they are.
I can't decide how to finish my team. My current favorites are:
Meowscarada - grass and dark Pawmot - electric and fighting Talonflame - fire and flying Tinkaton - fairy and steel Clodsire - poison and ground
I can't decide on a 6th. I didn't originally think I would keep Tinkaton but her derpiness has really grown on me. Normally I have a water Pokemon but that is because my starter is usually water, so I'm considering not having water on my team at all. And Talonflame isn't a gen 9 pokemon, but I'll probably keep him because I don't really like any of the gen 9 flying pokemon.
p.s. I wish we could change pokemon gender. I would be happier with the world if my Meowscarada were a girl.
@Dom_31 It kind of interests me how many pokemon players really complain about the reading in these games. I guess it doesn't bother me much, since I'm used to JRPGs, but a ton of people keep saying that the dialogue is too much, so they just skip through it.
I kind of get people not liking gen 7, but only to the extent that the dialogue matched with the level design and frequency of the dialogue makes for a hellish experience, moreso than just the dialogue or story itself. Like it's painful to have to go through an entire tutorial for the Festival Plaza, all because you just wanted to heal your pokemon before attempting the grass trial.
For me, the issue isn't with the text in this game, it is the lack of voice acting (and lack of detailed facial animation). You can make parallels to JRPGs here, but generally the ones that have zero voice acting are remasters from the 90s or tiny indies that are making 90s homages, not brand new 2022 open world games. Like there are so many storylines here which are actually pretty good, but man they would have gone to the next level if we could have actually seen someone perform them.
@Pizzamorg The visual design of Pokemon games is at the point where it's actively distracting now. Especially with the otherwise fairly modern looking cutscenes, which are all eerily silent. These games NEED voice acting, even if only for the important story bits.

Yakuza does this, with key cutscenes being fully animated and voiced, but some of the smaller ones are still voiced but are mostly static you click through. If they can't do it for the whole game, I wish they would at least use this approach. We are already kinda seeing the start of it with characters doing their little animated poses before battles, but it is 2022, you have a networth of a small country, this isn't enough. I want to see at least key moments with full voice acting and full animation, there is really no excuse.
Like it is so wild to me that not only is there no voice acting, but there is also barely any animation either. Every character is like Man-E-Faces from He-Man where they just cycle to the static expression they want to convey for that piece of text. Your main quest shouldn't be using multiplayer emotes to tell its damn story. And it only feels more of a shame here because the game actually has some really great moments, but those moments fell so utterly flat for me because I was just reading text in a vacuum.
