Hmm. This has to be the fall 2018 game right?

Xenoblade 2, Yoshi, Kirby, Fire Emblem, and Pokemon (none of which are titled ffs) would give them a decent year, if nothing I'm very interested in.

Don't hate me because I'm bnahabulous.

Haru17

@MarcelRguez Well there goes like half of the Switch's 2018, lol. Nintendo better drum something up, because this system ain't selling after Mario on Xenoblade's back.

So is there just going to be no Pokemon game in 2018, are they going to remake a generation, or will GF take this opportunity to release a lazy Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon port on Switch?

@MarcelRguez Hmm. I guess Animal Crossing is next year then? Maybe? Surely The Pokemon Company and Nintendo talk about these things. It'll be sort of a strange shift, going from a launch year filled with two big core singleplayer and multiplayer games to a year with a lot of casual games and RPGs, out of which only Kirby has and sort of direct multiplayer component.

@MarcelRguez #pokemon2019 and #metroid2020

I dunno, they could be working on an Animal Crossing. Maybe a new IP, and a Smash port. Don't know what else people expect from Nintendo. The one game a month thing certainly won't happen. Switch droughts confirmed?

@MarcelRguez Yeah I do believe Retro is working on a new IP, that has been rumoured for a while now. Pikmin 4 is handled by the Pikmin team and Good-Feel is working on Yoshi (again). Don't think I have to tell you who's working on Kirby.

If Splatoon 2 was a low effort job (since they're reusing a lot of assets), maybe the team can also finish an Animal Crossing by next year? Add FE to the list and you've got a decent output from Nintendo. I don't think they are big enough to pump out any more titles in a year. Unless they're filler amiibo Festival games. Maybe a new Mario Party?

Either way, they need at least some third party support.

@MarcelRguez I don't think Retro is doing any of those games, lol. But it is an interesting thought that Retro's new IP / late in the game Donkey Kong Country threequel could be next year. Much more interesting if it's the former as opposed to the later. Pikmin 4 could also be really good. 3 looked like a bit of a holding pattern to me, so I hope 4 makes strides such as adding diversity to the level design beyond obstacles and enemies, and adding some better hidden secrets. Sorry if I've detailed this thread by the way.

I really like NoA's release infographics. They provide a great way to visualize release schedules, even if all that did was throw the Wii U's droughts into harsher relief.

@MarcelRguez Your post makes me very hopeful for not-another-2D-platformer from Retro.

It's weird that Skyrim doesn't have a release date yet. Are you one of those people that never played it, or are you in the 1000 hours club with me?

@MarcelRguez Eh, I just don't believe anything Reggie says anymore

If they have another game for Switch this year, it's of the Mario Tennis calibre.

@MarcelRguez Losing 30 hours hurts, haha. I'm glad you're liking it! The level design is certainly advanced from Oblivion, and that kind of 'head start' should give you a better idea of how to build your character.

Odyssey is October 27 so, like Mario Kart, it's trying to be a November/May game while pretending to also be an April/October game.

I have no idea when Smash DX will be. Obviously they weren't going to talk about it during ARMS' marketing cycle, and they might lead their online with it, but other than that I have no idea. I'm not really worried about Switch monthly release schedules though. They missed May and it was totally fine, and they can cover a month or two whenever they want with another Wii U port. Pikmin 3, Bayonetta 1+2, Twilight Princess + The Wind Waker, 3D World — all of these games could easily come to Switch.

You guys had me at blood and semen.

What better way to celebrate than firing something out of the pipe?

I do think that if Retro is developing a new IP, they may have had to develop a new engine if the one they used for DKC Tropical Freeze didn't fit and that may have caused them to take so long in development.

Because otherwise, it's outright weird there hasn't even been a teaser of what they are preparing. The Spotlight was the perfect moment to introduce a new IP, since people wanted to see what they were doing. I know they have directs all year, but I don't think the announcement of a new IP holds the same weight if it is announced at E3 than at a random direct in, say, September or October.

Thinking about Pokemon on the Switch... If online battles and trading are also locked behind their subscription, I think I'm going to think twice about getting the game.

What's interesting about that interview is that they highlight a few fan comments about wanting a large scale, open world adventure and they actually respond affirmatively with "We're making it" instead of some vague, noncommittal PR answer like you'd normally expect from these kinds of interviews (like "maybe we will" or "stay tuned"). That bodes very well for this game, as that shows a willingness to break away from this recent "let's make the game streamlined and dumbed down for mobile gamers" kick they've been on recently and that they're willing to actually appeal to a console audience that wants something deeper and more engaging. However, at the same time, they're saying don't get your hopes too high, so it's probably not going to be like Pokemon BotW, but maybe a little closer to Mario 64/OoT. Which I'm perfectly fine with as long as it's not as painfully linear as Unova, Kalos, and Alola are.

@Bolt_Strike Don't get your hopes up indeed. It seemed a bit weird that information like that was revealed in an interview, so maybe we shouldn't take it too literally. However, it does sound that it's going to be more than just a game with uprezzed gen 6/7 visuals.

That was a great video.

So, what caught me was where they were pointing out online fan comments about wanting a real console Pokémon game, and that one comment said "All I ask is that they take the basic Pokémon premise of "Gotta Catch Em All", in a large, open-ish world. Bam, done" and they said they were doing it.

That makes me think it'll be a bit of a step up from what we've seen before.

Psalms 22:16 (1,000 yrs before Christ)
They pierced My hands and feet
Isaiah 53:5 (700 yrs before Christ)
He was pierced for our transgressions
Zachariah 12:10 (500 yrs before Christ)
They will look on Me whom they pierced

This confirms it will be a large (probably openworld) game.
It also confirms that it keeps being a main series Pokémon RPG, but it will have additional, modern home console differences/additions.

Even though they don't know if it's 40+ hours just like other Pokémon games, I think we can all assume that this game at least has to be in that range, with no less than 8 gym leaders to beat and 151 different Pokémon to catch.

I wouldn't get your hopes up for an open world. Didn't Masada literally said "Don't get your hopes up"?
So dash away hopes of thinking this will be the BotW of Pokémon.

We'll get the same old formula, maybe with some tweaking, and we'll like it and Pokémon will be a million seller like always.

@SKTTR No Pokemon game has ever been 40+ hours. They've always been in the 10-20 hour range. And if you know what you're doing, you can easily beat them in a day. I think with 40+ hours they were referring to very lengthy RPGs, and I don't think that's what they're going to do.
