I used the Pokéwalker for a while but didn't bring it with me after it started making noise during our English class. I had it in my pocket and it suddenly turned its sound back on (max volume, of course). My friend who was sitting behind me thought that it might have been his sister's tamagotchi and that she could have put it in his backpack. He searched for it while the sounds stopped. No one knew it was actually my Pokéwalker. I was ashamed and didn't want it to happen again so I pretty much stopped using it after that.
@Arcamenel I agree, just cuz I get burned out on the traditional style. But that's just me, I know many people don't and must be disappointed with the news.
I also loved the pokewalker when it came with HG and SS. I regret that I never had the chance to play the games when they came out, but I did love taking the poke walker with me on my school day for my cousin's file.
I loved the Pokéwalker with HeartGold, but I was a lot younger then. This new Pokéball does not excite me in the same way, but it's probably just because I'm older because this new one does more. I would also prefer to save my money for a game or pro controller instead of a Pokéball...
I'm looking forward to this but it's weird for a Pokémon game! It doesn't connect to the others and only has the first generation of Pokémon. But I don't think I'm the target audience for this, and neither is anyone who is wanting a "real" mainline Pokémon game.
Let's Go seems to be aimed at the people who like to meet up with their friends and play Pokémon Go, probably so they buy a Switch and can easily transition to the Gen 8.
I'm not a big Pokémon Go player (My Aunt and Uncle are to almost unhealthy levels ), but I'm sure the game will still be fun regardless, and hopefully it will draw the fans of both types of Pokémon together
So I've examined the trailer for this game and I found some interesting aspects of the game that may clarify some things:
@Octane I think you mentioned in a previous post that Pokemon should be hidden in the grass so that only certain parts like their tails show out of the grass (like in ORAS). I think that will be the case here (for smaller Pokemon) — in the bit of the trailer in front of Viridian Forest the Rattata and Pidgey are not very visible in the grass.
@Harmonie I remember your post regarding the graphics in comparison to Sun and Moon. I initially was disappointed like you that they regressed to the chibi look and grid-based movement of X/Y, but upon closer inspection the graphics seem to be at least on the level of Sun and Moon. The human models are properly proportioned (you can see the adults in Pallet town and near the Pokemon Center near Mt. Moon), so in fact they're going with the properly proportioned human models of Sun and Moon. And if you slow down footage of the two people playing co-op in Mt. Moon, one of the characters moves at a slight angle, showing that there is full range of movement (like Sun and Moon) instead of the grid-based movement of X/Y. And I'm not sure how it is in Sun and Moon, but in this game it appears shadows are properly made (the shadow of Charizard flying is properly done for example).
@shadow-wolf I'm pretty sure they are. You can clearly see the Rattata and the Weedle. The grass sorta moves out of the way when a Pokemon walks in it.
@Octane Oh I see what you mean. You're right. Although honestly it's nice to see the Pokemon move around instead of hide with a part of their body sticking out of the grass, it makes the game feel livelier. It'd be neat if the Pokemon could interact with each other like Bokoblins do in BotW, but maybe that's expecting a bit too much out of Game Freak lol.
Anyway, in regard to your CP comment about leveling up, I doubt they'd fully go the GO route of making you catch Pokemon to level up and then discard previously caught Pokemon for new Pokemon. Otherwise the game would encourage dropping your starter immediately for the stronger Pikachu/Eevee you find. I just think it'll be like the recent main games in which catching a Pokemon nets experience for all Pokemon in your party.
@shadow-wolf Making Pikachu and Eevee unable to evolve already encourages players to go out and catch a new Pikachu/Eevee I think. I wonder how viable both are late game. I think Pikachu is relatively worse current gen than it was in gen 1, and it already got one-shotted easily back in the day
I think that seeing them all on the map makes it a look a bit silly. What's the point of tall grass even at this point? I've talked about it with @Tsurii a few pages back, but I like the element of surprise. Especially when it comes to new games and new Pokemon. In that case, you can still look for Pokemon out of the grass, and attack them there, but those in the tall grass would provide some element of surprise. And if they have their tail sticking out of the grass for example, it remains a mystery if you haven't seen the Pokemon before, but if you know what you're looking for you can still find them easily. It would also be neat if different Pokemon acted differently, like Wimpod in Sun and Moon, where you had to approach them slowly. I don't think we've seen any of that in Let's Go, but they are ideas they could implement in the next games.
Gamexplain has done an analysis of the game trailer and has some very interesting details. The most interesting though is that when fighting the venonat both the pikachu and bulbasaur are overleveled (lvl 18 vs venonat's lvl 9). This would only be possible if there was some sort of grinding.

@Alber-san Unless they trainer has only used those two Pokemon so far. Then again, if the black bar is an EXP bar, they seem to have leveled up via a Rare Candy, since both are empty. Or maybe it's not an EXP bar at all, since Masuda hinted that leveling up works a bit differently.
@shadow-wolf My comparison to X/Y as opposed to Sun/Moon goes far beyond the character models returning to chibi style, it also has to do with the environmental graphics and the camera angles. Sun/Moon had progressed the series with environments more befitting of a 3D world/game, and while the camera was fixed, it moved away from the overhead view much more often than X/Y.
I acknowledge that the style is upgraded into HD, but I still don't like it at all. Kanto has already been remade. A Generation VI-style 2.5D take of it simply doesn't pass for me.
@Harmonie@MarcelRguez Oh I see what both of you mean. Yeah that is a bit disappointing, but at least Gen 8 should be better than the graphics in Sun and Moon.
@Octane I mean to the people who care about being competitive. To the numerous people who care about just carrying around their favorite Pokemon, they may not want to constantly replace them over and over again. I think having a mechanic like that would sink these games. Hopefully they don't have something like that.
Also is it just me or are these protagonists ... quite young? They look like the youngest protagonists Pokémon RPGs have ever had, they look like they’re 8 or 9 years old. I guess it’s supposed to make it easier for people to give into nostalgia.
@Octane Pikachu is actually better than Raichu with its unique item, if they didn't change something about that. The questions of course whether or not the light ball(?) is back in Let's Go
Ive only played Pokemon Yellow so they didn't have light ball things. I did use my Pikachu in Pokemon Stadium though as he was quick and had surf as an emergency against rock types.
Thanks to Pokemon Quest I have never been looking forward to this game more. Say what you want about this, but it looks like a real Pokemon game to me now.
