Can i play this game very casually without bothering shinies hunting or too much grinding as i only interested by certain Pokemons?

No. You are forced to complete big chunks of Pokedex quests to progress (catch x, battle x, see x do x move x times etc).

Maybe I will watch some gameplay videos of Legends Arceus as even I played my Pokemon games on 3DS and Switch very casually. (Not bothering competitive competition from other players, not really interested in hunting the shinies, try to finish the storyline as fast as possible, only picked some interesting looking Pokemons)

@yegs88 @Eel Yeah, I saw a Gyarados on the first area. It was flying about high in the air and I wasted 15 mins trying to get to it. I gave up and figured you must be able to get it later in the game with a ridable Poke.

Oh I guess I haven’t been looking up enough!

With its Chinese dragon look, I suppose makes sense. It is a flying type too, so I guess they just became a bit fly shy in the future.

@Anti-Matter I mean you can play casually, but you have to catch a lot of pokemon, your not forced to have any of them on your team tho, and its not like all the pokemon I catch i'm a big fan of, but TBH, this isn't the type of game thats fun to watch, its more fun to play.

@Eel I would always wonder why it was a flying type, guess now I know LOL.

How many battles would you say you have?

I'm so sad right now dude, I wanted to find an alpha gard, just so I know where it is when my level is high enough, guess what, it was a shiny, my favorite pokemon, in its alpha form, and I can't catch it, there will be many more, but damn.

I need a break.

Couldn't you save beforehand and just throw balls at it without actually attacking it?

Yes, you need to initiate a battle with alpha Pokémon, but you don't need to attack it at all in order to throw balls at it.

@Silly_G Its not possible to catch alpha pokemon below your star rank. At least thats what I have been told by many people.

I've caught loads above my star level. I only know this because I go to use them and then they refuse to listen to me lol.

@Snatcher : For what it's worth, I've caught a few Level 40 alphas before my ranking was high enough for them to obey me.

@Pizzamorg @Silly_G ......................... so you just can't catch them outside of battle huh.......that stings a lot you guys.

@Snatcher : You didn't save immediately when you saw it?

This is why I appreciate minor spoilers regarding certain mechanics so that I don't end up kicking myself when it comes to these sorts of situations.

@Silly_G Well I watched a video, and was told you couldn't catch alpha pokemon, unless you had the stars, soo, ya.

Edit: I'm wondering if the level is to high, you can't catch the alpha, been just trying to catch a normal alpha, but its just not working.

People are saying its possible, to be fair, the video was pretty early on, and when they said you can't catch it, they might have been saying it wont listen to you.

I have been trying to catch this thing for an hour, I'm going to try and catch it again when I have the right level.

This game is really good.

Its the first time a Pokémon game has legitimately hooked me. I've played, and enjoyed, many previous Pokémon games. But I always quit and move on after a few hours.

But Arceus is just so fun to move around in, aim pokeballs with gyro and catch Pokémon (love the little firecracker when you catch one), it's fun to explore and gather and craft and battle, and all the tedium has been removed. Fast travel everywhere, moves stay permanently in your learned list...

This is a refreshing take on the formula. I really wasn't expecting much from this game, and yet, it's already my favorite in the series, and I can't imagine going back to the old formula after this.
