@Octane I disagree, however I do feel that a second region has to have a specific target. Maybe you play as a character in someone else’s journey, as a gym leader or the such.
Random Encounters just felt way too grindy and annoying in certain sections. It is easily one of the most annoying mechanics in Pokémon. Even though I like Pokémon. Not a huge fan but I do enjoy it.
There are ways to make it better. Perhaps telling us what we are encountering and give us the choice to run before we enter the battle screen.
@Tsurii Yeah, now that I think about it, the only fun part was fighting Red, and catching Mewtwo in Heartgold/Soulsilver. If they did 2 regions in sword and shield, I feel like it would be unnecessarily long and only would be fun if it literally was 2 games in one.
I think a lot of the fun of returning to Kanto in Gen 2 comes from the feeling it gives you of revisiting a past region years later. I really enjoyed seeing the implications of that

Yeah, the fact that Kanto was watered down/had less content never even entered my mind while playing G/S/C. Kanto in G/S/C was just the icing on the top of the cake. Being full of content wasn't its point, it was meant to be an added bonus, and it was an exceptional one IMO.
GF adding a second region in SS would be difficult, though. It worked easily for Johto/Kanto because R/B/Y and G/S/C were on the same system with the same graphics... They could just copy and paste Kanto. There is no region they could do that with for SS.
Assuming that Kalos is close like France is close to England (which I'm not convinced of, Galar looks almost like it's a peninsula even though it is meant to be based off of England/Scotland), Kalos would not be a simple copy and paste like Kanto was in Johto since Kalos was not only on the 3DS but also was 2.5D. Kalos would have to be remade and reimagined for SS.
Although... SS doesn't quite look like it's very ambitious, so I would actually feel better about how small it seems to be if they had remade Kalos in addition to it. I really don't think that's going to happen. We shouldn't even see it as a possibility, to be honest.
Hmm. I wasn't blown away but I am happy for the mainliners so now they can hopefully stop complaining about Let's Go. Personally since it looks like random battles are still here to stay I will wait on the next Let's Go entry (I really hope that becomes the remake line). Let's Go fixed one of the tedium issues I had with the Pokemon series so seeing a return to the norm means I'll wait on reviews and or wait till the third version comes out for trading purposes. I will say scorbunny is cute even if the name is not. So if I do buy the game, that will be my starter. Otherwise, I was rather underwhelmed. Looking forward to Town though.
Thank you for not joining the Let's Go haters bandwagon. I still feel like LG fixes a lot of the things I've never liked with the Pokemon games, which is one of the reasons I'm significantly closer to finishing it than I ever got in a mainline Pokemon. I've been hoping that they will be doing more Let's Go games, remaking the early games one at a time.
Meanwhile, Sword and Shield looks nice, and like you said I'm happy for the mainline fans. I might buy it, I might not. If I do, I can honestly say that I like all three of the starters.

@JasmineDragon The "Let's Go haters bandwagon" kinda fizzled out once people actually played the game and said "Huh, this isn't as bad as I thought it would be".
I won't name any names here but I know of quite a few people who were vocally against the games, only to admit that they were wrong after trying them.
Some of that did happen, but there are still plenty of people who like to act like LGPE was a crime against gaming. You can see a few of them in this thread, unless it's just one person and I didn't notice.

At this point, I'm inclined to think people will pile on a game no matter what it is like. Cynical tribalism is swallowing Western society whole, and that's reflected in every aspect of it.
I'm not fond of the changes made in Let's Go and am glad random battles are here to stay in the mainline games, but I've never considered it a terrible game. It's just aimed at a somewhat different demographic. I'm sure I'd have been all over the game if I was a fan of Go (tried it, but just couldn't get into it, unfortunately). I do still plan on finishing it eventually, though.
I think I'll go with Scorbunny if I get the game (it's been years since I've played Pokémon, but this has my attention), but is it just me or do all the starters look too "round" & clean?
I seem to remember older Pokémon tending to have a bit more of a naturalistic shaggy/furry look to them if they were based on animals (such as Eevee, Arcanine, Rapidash, Blaziken, Pidgey, etc.). It may just be a bit of nostalgia bias on my part though.

Kanto did seem a bit barebones in the Gen 2 games (due to limitations at the time), but it was still cool to go back and see what Kanto looked like 2-3 years later. Cinnabar's eruption always seemed the most drastic to me.

Gamers: complain Let’s Go isn’t like traditional Pokémon
Gamers: complain traditional Pokémon isn’t like Let’s Go

That's not as contradictory as you're implying. That's like pointing out that people are saying they're too hot when they're on fire and they're too cold when they're freezing to death. Just because they change something you didn't like doesn't mean they're satisfied, it's about making the right type of change. When people are complaining about these games not having overworld encounters, they're not saying they also want Go style capture mechanics or any of the other mechanics that made Let's Go so controversial. They just want overworld encounters. The problem is that they threw the baby out with the bathwater with this game, as controversial as Let's Go was it had its merits, they just want to see them filter out the negatives and incorporate the positives into the main games.
Also, the possibility exists that you could hate both styles. Let's Go was extremely divisive, but the 3DS games had their own criticisms that neither style of game has really addressed, so reverting back to that style doesn't really fix anything. Some of the recent games have gotten a lot of vocal complaints for being too easy, too linear, lacking content, or otherwise casualized, and choosing between the current main formula and Let's Go feels like choosing between Casual mode and Super Casual mode. And with this being a console game on vastly more powerful hardware competing against bold, convention-shattering open world games, there was an expectation that Pokemon would also take a major step forward but that doesn't seem to have happened.
So yeah, it's not as if people are complaining for the sake of complaining. Game Freak just isn't good at addressing criticisms.
@Bolt_Strike Also the possibility exists that the people who complained about LGP/E and the people who are complaining about LGP/E features not being present in S/S are entirely different people.
You know, like myself. Lol. I hated LGP/E even back when they were just leaks. I still hate them after release. And guess what? I'm not even beginning to complain about the lack of LGP/E features in S/S.
However, you bring up valid points. People are allowed to think that overworld Pokemon encounters and following Pokemon (which is not exclusive to LGP/E at all) are valid without thinking that LGP/E are good (Pokemon) games as a whole. Such nuance isn't something that people who love to make faulty overgeneralizing statements trying to shame people with critical opinions want to be able to see, however.
You know what's really stupid in 2019? Two versions. Like seriously, what other game could get away with it in this day an age? Here's a second €60 game that has barely any changes, but we've locked some exclusive content in that game. It should be one version. /rant

In shape Scorbunny reminds me a lot of Meowth.
I think it's the combination of colour and shape that puts me off Scorbunny. Too round and too much contrast for my liking.
