I completed the third streamer area yesterday. I would say since Overlook Mountain, I've been comparing my experience in Origami King to my initial run of Super Mario Odyssey. The last few sessions I would say I've felt the experience has been better than Super Mario Odyssey. Origami King has only been getting better as it goes on so far. The game has been an emotional ride at times. Last night I was thinking about how close I was to not buying and experiencing what this game has to offer as I was experiencing the finale at the yellow streamer.
Origami King's worst problem is the external noise both from classic Paper Mario fans and from Nintendo. At this point, Tanabe making comments in an attempt to justify the game just comes across as stirring up classic Paper Mario fans and they're going to speak out about this game with little clue about the game's experience. If Origami King is the standard, I don't want Paper Mario to return to what it was in its oldest entries nearly 16 years ago. I do think though that there is a demand for a genuine RPG experience within the Mario universe and do think Nintendo should make and release a game for those consumers before they decide to make the next Paper Mario game. Paper Mario has been an action adventure series (2012-present) longer than it was a RPG series (2001-2007): It's also what is most current. That is Paper Mario's genre, so hope Nintendo creates a new series that's in the RPG genre for Mario or decides to improve upon and return with the Mario & Luigi games.

I agree. I think it's time for Paper Mario to just come out and be clear that it's sticking with the action adventure genre and that Nintendo will revitalize a more core rpg experience in the near future with a different franchise. All of the "BOO! It's not an RPG!" noise from the internet has probably kept sooooo many people from buying this game, many of which would probably have enjoyed it immensely if they would just have kept an open mind.
As for the game, I loved it overall, but to be absolutely critical, it was a bit of a curve for me. I LOVED every bit of the first two streamers without exception, but then the middle streamers there were portions I didn't enjoy quite as much, and then I went back to loving everything about the final areas. No game is gonna be perfect all the way through, but they came pretty darn close for me.
Nearly completed Origami King 100%, outside of getting the trophies for Boss Rush mode. (I only just found out I had to do Boss Rush after finishing the game. I thought I was done D:) Hope it's not as stressful as getting Perfect Score in Shy Guy's Finish Last. That was the worst part.
The game has been an up-and-down rollercoaster in terms of enjoyability. After the introduction, everything was a dull, slow pace excluding a couple entertaining parts like scaling Overlook Tower and the bizarre Shy Guy Ballet fight. It wasn't until Sandpaper Desert did I start to enjoy the game, as secrets and collectibles became more obscure and areas were a little more explorative. We also had more useful partners after Bobby. (Sorry Bobby, but you were useless and phoned into the story.)
The Great Sea chapter was easily my favorite part. A mini Wind Waker experience with a lot of room to explore the islands and figuring out how to enter the Sea Tower yourself. Shangri-Spa was less interesting, but being paired up with Bowser Jr. and Kamek was fun to watch. The later area's were surprisingly shallow, taking a lot less time to complete than I was expecting. At least the final boss fights were stellar and made up for the lack of final area content. (More specifically Bowser's Castle and Shangri-Spa. Bowser's Castle has gotten a major downgrade.
It's also been a while since I felt the urge to 100% complete a game. I wanted to see all the concept art in the gallery. Origami is fascinating and difficult to wrap my head around, because they're a lot more tricky to create than they seem. It must've been challenging for the dev team to wrap their head around making 3D models of origami. I'm glad I got to see everything they poured their heart into crafting in this game.
@rallydefault If you don't mind cheesing it, if you have a camera phone, you can video record the Ninji Skills and Bath Math challenges so you can playback and double check your answer. I did it because I had enough trying it the legitimate way.

Ha, I did the same thing with the “Snifit or Whif it” mini game in Paper Mario Color Splash.
I got this earlier in the week & while I didn't have much time to try it out during the week, I've been able to devote a good amount of time to it over the weekend and believe I'm about to fight the Colored Pencils boss seen in the trailer.
The battle system makes me a bit nervous as I don't like being timed (and it's caused me to make quite a few mistakes, even early on), however it's been otherwise a good time.
Currently Playing:
Switch - Blade Strangers
PS4 - Kingdom Hearts III, Tetris Effect (VR)
@Quarth I'm definitely liking the OST. It's actually quite a bit stronger musically than TTYD was, in terms of both the quality of the tracks and the variety on display.
Aesthetically, this is one of the strongest Nintendo games I've played. The art direction, environments, music, etc. are all top-notch.
Currently Playing: Metroid Prime 4: Beyond (NS2); Corpse Factory (PC)
I have never played a Paper Mario game in my life up until The Origami King. I just finished it up over the weekend, and I came away impressed. I loved the humor, the story, the graphics, and the music. The battle system didn't even bother me--it was pretty challenging at times, but not overly so. The puzzle elements were not overly obtuse, but difficult enough to be entertaining and rewarding.
In general, it reminded me a bit of playing through Luigi's Mansion 3--even though it's technically open world, you're still moving from area to area progressing the story. Completists will want to go back and find all the stuff they missed, but it's hardly necessary and not particularly hard once you learn all the game mechanics and where the obvious hiding places usually are.
@Varkster Sounds awesome, but I have to take care of the fourth streamer first. I'm at the "Three Orbs" challenge right now. Five streamers sounds little, but each part is HUGE! Especially if you take time to explore.
@Quarth
Yea, the 3rd and 4th streamers open up soooooooo much, and if you go for everything you can sink a dozen hours easily into just those sections.
Anybody else doing a marathon of all the console paper mario's? I just recently played through the first and I'm halfway through thousand year door. It's been a really long time since i played these and I'm having a blast all over again! Too bad it's all downhill after TTYD though i haven't actually played Origami king yet. I'm still expecting it won't touch the first two. I'm going to go through them all anyway. I still love this series despite it's ups and downs!
